Subject: Questions about FK vampirism

Well, I was brainstorming for a new piece of fanfiction and three questions
popped into my mind that I just couldn't answer.

1. Did LaCroix ever actually say he was 2000 years old, or did the fans
figure that out based on the year Pompeii was destroyed?

2. Has it ever been proven that the FK vampires cry blood? Every single
piece of fiction I've ever read always has them with red bloodtears
(including my own), but was this actually canon or is it just a trend that
developed out of fiction?

3. When Janette was brought back across, do you think she was put back at
square one or do you think she still had the age benefits of being 1000?
(FK vampires seem to have power that develops with age).

Thanks in advance!

Monica referred to Kyer earlier post:
>And here is why I have trouble with believing the Near Death
>Scenario,<snip> <snip>Given such a lame spiel, *I* would probably have
>turned back too---especially iffen (like Serena) I didn't know that I would
>be returning as a vampire.
>

I think that they--the "prospective vamps-to-be" apparently in FK DO have
some type of experience as they are dying--and remember that Janette is
concerned that Nick might not 'come back' as he is in the process of being
'brought across'--and I DO like what Amy Rambo said recently about referring
to new vampires as "converts" and that term and her explanation that it
implies that one DOES have a choice as to whether or not he or she becomes a
vampire or 'goes onward' and dies--Thanks,Amy!-- one may have some kind of
choice presented to him or her--Serena specifically in "Baby, Baby" after
she 'woke up', and had no idea that she was becoming a vampire, said that
she had the most awful dream or nightmare, right? And Urs, in HoD, had told
Vachon to kill her (But he couldn't! *BVaqG*) and she seemed rather confused
after she 'woke up', as if maybe she wasn't expecting to even be alive or
undead--so I agree with what has been said previously that they MAY not know
that what's happening--i.e., that the NDE or 'dream' in which they are given
a choice--is REALLY happening, and the "guide" either may not be giving 'the
convert' "full disclosure" for what they are becoming, ya know, the 'liquid
diet' for the rest of their unlives, for starters *g*, or the converts' just
simply do not know that what they are experiencing is anything other than a
dream--and even in RL, some of our dreams may be pretty hard to
differentiate as being 'real' or not.*g* [And even in the cases where one
knows that they are are becoming a vampire--I assume that LC did say
SOMETHING about this when he gave Nick a choice before he bit him in the
first place--granted, his "choices" would have been either that LC kill him
outright or he becomes a vampire, but Nick doesn't "see" the negatives that
accompany the 2nd choice--{{{or maybe that's like the "fine print" in a
contract that LC may...skip over}}}-- until after he becomes a vamp--one
STILL is offered a choice by TPTB BEFORE finally "coming across" as a
vampire.]

And Monica said:
>I believe the Near Death Scenario was in fact a sort of >hallucination or
>something created in Nick's brain.

I could be mistaken here, but even today, when people have 'near death
experiences'-- SOME medical/scientific type people may explain them away as
hallucinations because the brain is losing oxygen or something--didn't Nat
even try to explain away or give a medical explanation to Nick in that
ep?--'course that doesn't explain how the folks who admit they have had a
NDE can see stuff that is happening in the say, operating room, [or hospital
corridor as in one case
I heard of] for example, after or as they "die" and before they "come back",
now does it? [And, BTW, not all NDE's are pleasant--there are some folks
who, during their NDE, do not wind up, as their ALMOST final destination, in
a 'place of light' and peace and goodness, but in a place of anguish, pain,
despair, what some of us would call "Hell".]

>The ideas of the Guide fit so well with what Nick believed, that he had to
>atone, and had lots more of it to do, etc., that it wasn't credible as
>anything more to me.
>

Well, the guides in Nick's 2 NDE's looked different--the first time, when he
was dying when LC was bringing him across, the "guide" was a woman, the 2nd
time, the guide explained that they were the same "guide" just looked
different that time--like LC, and don't know if he had any reason to expect
the first "guide" 7+ centuries ago in the first place.

>If there was something that contradicted his belief system, then it would
>have more credibility to me.
>

We don't know if Nick's 'belief system' as a 13th century Catholic and
Janette's as a Catholic from 1 or more centuries prior to that--would have
included the NDE, and my guess is the he & she would maybe have seen and
angel or some religious type figure or something/someone they knew if, as
Monica says were the case:

>So, if it was a lame spiel that was rather vague, I attribute it to Nick
>not knowing how to explain things to himself any better. Just like in a
>dream, you can't dream about a calculus equation if you don't know how they
>work. <snip>
>

Well, I humbly and respectfully disagree *g*. Remember that in "Near
--Death", Janette told Nick that she, too, had a 'near death experience' and
that LaCroix 'called her back'--her's MAY have been different than Nick's,
maybe a different looking place-grassy field or something(?) but she DID
have one. In the beginning of that ep, the guy who died PLUS his
co-researcher, Diane, both seemed to have been in a desert-like/sandy place
like Nick was "in" when they each had their 'near death experiences'--IF it
was a "hallucination"--persons, I do not believe all would have the same
"hallucination"--could they? And, Janette, like Nick, did experience
'something' as she was dying when LC was 'bringing her across', and Nick
apparently was not aware of Janette's experience until the "present day"
when he asked her.

AND, keep in mind that LaCroix was somehow aware that SOMETHING happened
when one was in the process of becoming a vampire, because he knew that he
had to "call" his "children" back from the 'brink of death' and the
appropriate time in the process to "call" them back.--How would he have
known to do this unless either it also happened to him and/or other vampires
had told him this?

Thank you! And, BTW, I really enjoy reading all the very thoughtful
responses ya'll have been sharing in this discussion!

Calm down - you must really be working hard not to have noticed we're still
in March. There's actually time to plan a get-together for one of these - the
14th & 15th are a week-end.

Subject: Your Daily Vote & FK's Position

Hi!

This is just a reminder for you to add your daily vote on the Global 100
Charts.

Soon I am going to start announcing "weekly" rather than daily. Why? Because
you are replacing your votes from before when you vote each day to keep them
100% value. They should still remain 100% value after a week too. So I'm
going to start reminding once a week instead starting Friday.

To vote go here: http://www.global100.com/item.asp?Item=51259

*We could really use the help of those wo have never voted before.*

Currently it remains in the #4 position unofficially.(this is what needs to
increase so it will officially).

Officially it is in the #7 position.

Thanks for participating!
