Subject: Natalie's employer Okay, this may seem like a silly question...but who exactly does Natalie work for? In the United States, coroners work for the county. Is it the same in Canada? Or does she work for the city of Toronto or province of Ontario? I remember seeing a symbol on the Coroner's office sign and I thought it was the province of Ontario, but I'm not sure... I figured that on this big list full of knowledgeable people, someone should know... <g> Deanie ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 3 Mar 2000 21:54:09 -0500 From: Marg Yamanaka <mytoronto@h.......> Subject: Re: Natalie's employer DeanieBTVS@a....... wrote: > Okay, this may seem like a silly question...but who exactly does Natalie work > for? <snip> Or does she work for the city of Toronto or province of Ontario? The site that is used for the Nat's office is, in fact, the Provincial Coroner's Office, but some of the dialogue in the show implies that Nat works for the Police. The Toronto Police have their own Forensic Identification Unit, but I believe that autopsys, DNA work and such are done by the Provincial unit in reality. -- Marg in Toronto, the City of the Knight <mytoronto@h.......> Please visit the Upper Canada Connection - A Canadian Tribute to Geraint Wyn Davies: http://members.home.net/gwducc/index.htm ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 3 Mar 2000 21:03:06 -0600 From: Nancy Kaminski <nancykam@m.......> Subject: Re: Natalie's employer > Deanie wrote: > Okay, this may seem like a silly question...but who exactly does > Natalie work for? Bell" <webwarren@e.......> >Do the "licensed transport" laws vary from Canadian province to Canadian >province, or are they the same throughout Canada? The gun laws in Canada are applied right across Canada. A private citizen may only transport a handgun in a locked weapons case, with all the appropriate documentation (A LOT of documentation), with only a few valid destinations. Valid destinations include a place of residence, a firing range, or to transfer (ie sell) to another private citizen who must also have all the appropriate documentation (Fire Arms Aquisition Certificate for that specific weapon, Fire Arms Licence, etc.) Rifles have slightly looser restrictions since you may also take them for hunting. Having a gun on your dash in Canada will get you arrested on the spot. Reaching for it could get you shot. I don't have Kyers gift for referring to Nick in paragraph, so I'll cut this short. :) Thassa aka Hamlet Sysop ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 4 Mar 2000 12:33:37 CET From: Simone Nicole Dornecker <moonwing@h.......> Subject: Lambert = German male first Name Hi folks I was just looking around to find out the meaning of my first Name and stumbled over Lambert: oldgerman first name, build out of lant = Land + berath = shining Funny isn't it? If you've been reading my posts of late, you know my computer life has been turned into Hell on the level of Nick's angst during Last Knight. I thought I had everything fixed again---but no. My computer sound is *gone*. It just told me that an empty Wordpad doc was 3.99 Gig (yes, you read that right) in size. I turned off my machine while a file was still open. Not only did it not warn me of this---it was still open when I turned it back on. At first I thought it was the Netscape download, but then I remembered that I thought it had done that a couple of days ago. Also, there was the matter of the disappearing text doc. I can't afford a technician. Debating whether to risk reformatting the hard drive or just reload Windows95. Never done the former before. **Lisa Harvey** am sending you the 15kb start of Episode2 part 10. Please save it in case my backups fail as well. Also, if you don't hear from me each day, please notify McLisa to take me off Forkni-L If computer totally dies, overjoyed parents will fight my getting another. **McLisa** I am hereby authorizing Lisa Harvey to act in my behave should this disaster prevent myself from doing so. As for Fkfic-L, I have it copied to another mail server, so it should be fine for a while longer. Just shoot me now, Kyer, kyer@p....... ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 4 Mar 2000 10:25:07 -0800 From: Chris Rosmini <chrismin@e.......> Subject: Re: May be forced off list for awhile Hi Kyer, Please understand this is coming from somebody who doesn't know any more about computers than you do, probably less, but I've been spooked by some of the same things. I run two computers on Windows 95 and if I shut down with a file running it is often up and open when I re-boot, but not always. I have no idea why. Neither of them show a warning, that seems to be the norm. Stupid suggestions that have turned out t be answers when I have been .... distressed by the behavior of the machines: Did you check the mute button on the volume control? I spent an anxious day on that one. How full is your hard drive. I know no reason why it should be so but strange things begin to happen when mine are more than 3/4 full. Take deep calming breaths and try not to break anything you will want to use later. It took me two weeks to recover from upgrading to Eudora 4, and I'm still finding things the new Netscape download did that I didn't know about (including trashing all my bookmarks). Do you have anything like Norton Utilities? The de-fragmenter and Disc Doctor thingys have been helpul in sorting out some problems for me. I have also found threats useful occasionally, computers are literal minded creatures and will not know you are kidding (even worse than some list-members). This works even better with plants. Anyhow, keep your (metaphorical, of course) pecker up! Chris ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 4 Mar 2000 13:29:55 EST From: Laudon1965@a....... Subject: YKYBWTMFKW...
