It is a dimension as vast as LaCroix's ego and timeless as Nick's flashbacks. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between Nat's chemistry set and the Abbarat, and it lies between the pit of Schanke's 'my partner is a vampire' fears and the summit of Tracy's coffee bean knowledge. This is the dimension of wacked out imagination. It is an area which we call... Da Weird Knight Zone. <insert Weird Knights theme music here. Yes, I *know* its really the Twilight Zone theme music, but---darn it---I can't afford a midi player to make my own. Gimme a break.> Do..do....do..do. Do..do...do..do... And don't look at me---I jest write this stuff.) It is a faction comprised of only two members. <Kyer wearing official googly monster-eye glasses waves energetically at Barb> It is a faction that is not altogether sure whether it is the *fiction* they praise that is considered 'weird' or the members thereof. <g> Do you also wish to bear the honored name of 'Weird Knight'? "Reality is a bore, and needs to be boot kicked out of Life as much as possible." I too believe this is very very important for the authors. It's a lot of work sometimes (at least I tended to write rather detailed letters), and you may think you don't have time. But I received many responses back from authors in appreciation for my comments and/or suggestions. And all that is needed is a few words of appreciation. Although I have only managed to post one story (with many more unfinished) that gave me the first hand feel of the receiving end of feedback, which only affirmed what I already believed: feedback is cool!!!!! <excerpt>Cloud wrote: What effect do you think region would have on the price of a bottle of the finest bloodwine? I'm referring to "Can't Run Can't Hide" and the character "Tran" portrayed by Von Flores. Tran is a Vietnamese vampire who was brought across by LaCroix. I would like to know #1)if 'Tran' would have been a first name or last name;#2)if it would have been his first name, what would be some common Vietnamese last names;#3)if it would have been his last name/surname, what are possible first names--e.g., I am aware that Christianity has been in Vietnam, there have even been some Catholic Vietnamese martyrs, possibly including some bishops, if I'm not mistaken, so could Tran have had a first name such as Stephen or John --English or Vietnamese equivalent-- or what are some first names a Vietnamese man would have. In the credits he is simply named Tran. Thank you for any info you can offer. Thought, although thinking it might be highly unlikely, went in there and asked for "anything FK". To my surprised the answere was NOT "Forever WHAT???" but an "Of course!" followed by a small box being taken off a shelf, containing press photographs. Anyway, to cut a long story short, although unable to order or get anything more FK (according to the guy owning the shop he got those pics from a store on Hollywood Blv, CA and has NO idea when he will order from them again), the pics they HAVE are very nice. Bought them all, which means two times each pic he had. Well, I don't NEED two of each pic, so if anyone is interested in any of the NOT needed, please contact me OFF LIST! Don't want to make any profit on them, just give them away for what I paid for them (which wasn't TOO cheap, NOTHING in this country is *sigh*, but okay I think, looking at what those pics go for on eBay and other auction sites) to a fellow fan who wants to add them to their collection! Postage wise - I live in the UK, but would send them to any place on the globe. THE PICS ARE: (size 16 x 25,5 cm, no idea what that is in inch, but the size is about the size of a magazine page) *color pic of the first season cast *b/w pic of the third season cast *color pic of Nat, first season, standing with her arms folded the next ones are the press photographs that as far as I know usually come in those press kits from the studios. They have "Forever Knight" written in the bottom left, and the TriStar Sign in the bottom right corner and a few lines about the actor who is on the pic written in between. they are all b/w *Tracy, standing, holding a gun *Schanke and Nat (two pics on one pic, the first season pics) *Nick, holding a badge *Nat well, that was it...if any of you is interested, please contact me OFF LIST naddy1228@y....... bye NADINE ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 21 Feb 2000 00:19:20 -0600 From: treeleaf@i....... I just added a very special movie clip that no fans in the U.S. have seen, unless they some how had access to the Canadian Version of FK. I only found out about it through a picture, then asked Lois Dodson who has access to the Canadian version about it. She then made this very special clip for me... It is a scene in "Last Act" with Nick and Erica. This is shown after they have bitten each other and shared blood. Erica was talking about what she saw in Nick's past. It mentions the crusades as well. I learned a few things I hadn't known before from only the U.S. version too. It lasts for about a minute and I think it's well worth the download time. :) I hope you guys enjoy it. I am also going to try and find out about more cut-outs too, to have video clips of. If any of you know what's in Canada and not shown in the U.S. please tell me. I'd be eternally grateful! Thanks and I hope you all enjoy the clip! Subject: Questions about Tran Tran is a common surname in Vietnam. The most common is Nguyen. Other Vietnamese surnames which come to mind are Hoang, Ho and Ngo. Catholic Vietnamese (I used to know a family of Catholic refugees well) do not use French names. It would be French rather than English, since Vietnam was a French colony. The problem with being sure whether Tran in the show is his family name or his given name is that it could be either. Vietnamese names work like Chinese names, so that the given names have meaning and are vocabulary words. In Vietnam the family name goes firstand married women keep their own family names. Many women have the element thi (not capitalized) as part of the name to indicate that they are female. It comes right after the family name and before the given name. Also, if the full name has two words, the person will commonly be called by only one. In Vietnam the personal name was the normal element to use unless you are referring to the person by his/her full name for some reason. This applied even to army officers in the field. My guess is that Tran is a part of his given name. I can't give possible full names because I'd have to speak the language to come up with them. My advice would be to find a source from the Viet Nam war era and borrow from that. Cousin McLisa (Lisa McDavid) "That will be Trouble." mclisa@m....... For information on managing your subscription and on listserv commands, please see Don Fasig's page http://www.geocities.com/Athens/7139/fk-lists.htm 1. No flames on list. FLAMERS MAY BE SET NOPOST. THE NOPOST MAY BE PERMANENT. 2. Please don't quote more than four lines of a previous post in replying. If you have more than one point to answer, then you may quote the relevant four lines for that point also. 3. Limit sigs to 6 lines. This includes all information, decoration quotations and blank lines. Your name and address count as part of the six. If you sign your name on a separate line above the body of text, your name and the blank line or lines between count as part of the six line limit. If you have one of those services that insists on putting an advertising tag on the end of posts, don't worry. I realize you can't control that and it doesn't count as part of your sig. 4. Please don't send to the whole list when you are only talking to the person who wrote the post you are answering. 5. Advertising on list is on a case by case basis. Please consult the listowners, Lisa McDavid, mclisa@m....... or Don Fasig, phase3@g....... for permission. 6. This list is for the discussion of Forever Knight. Cast, crew, staff and producers in connection with what they're doing now or have done in the past are ok. Vampires in general are _NOT_ ok except in relation to Forever Knight. 7. Off-topic posts are not allowed, no matter what they are about or how urgent the warning may appear. If you have an off-topic post which you think should appear on the list, ask one of the owners for permission. 8. The private lives of the cast are not a discussion topic. Occasionally one of the fan club presidents will make an announcement, but other than that, we leave the cast their privacy. 9. Con announcements must come from con officials or a designated liaison and must be kept brief. Cons are only announced on list if there is a connection to FK. 10. Only fan club presidents or other designated spokespeople may make announcements of future projects for FK cast, crew and staff, before said projects have been released or written about in the media. 11. No role-playing on Forkni-l. This includes no character names as pseudonyms or posing as a character. 12. Each subscriber is limited to five posts per day on Forkni-l. I'll be happy to explain the reason for any of the above if asked. Thanks! Cousin McLisa (Lisa McDavid) "That will be Trouble." mclisa@m....... Subject: Similarities to FK This weekend I was watching the delightful movie "The Prince and the Showgirl" with Laurence Olivier and Marilyn Monroe, and I was struck by the similarities to FK. Olivier's character, the Prince Regent of Carpathia, is severe, gruff, dignified, and positively Machiavellian in his political machinations. Yet he has a reluctantly shown tender and vulnerable side elicited by the ingenuousness of Marilyn Monroe's character, who is rather like a cross between Urs and Tracy, with some of Nat's first season humor thrown in for good measure. In addition the Prince Regent has an uneasy relationship with his minor son, the King, whose name is....wait for it...Nicholas. Nicholas is in contact with individuals from other governments and is planning a coup against his father's government of Carpathia, it seems he prefers the kinder gentler ways of democracy to the Prince Regent's "benevolent tyranny" <g> Elsie, Marlilyn Monroe's character, is a dancer like Urs, has indomitable good spirits like Tracy, and is also rather like the Valentine's view of Nat in that she shows the Prince that his main problem is the lack of love in his life and that he would get further with his son by being tolerant and loving than by being a hardnose. Sound familiar? Similarities to FK aside, I heartily recommend it for being the delightful film that it is. Subject: Survivors/Remember the writers Hi! This is kind of a public service announcement<g>... I've gotten a lot of mail over the past two years asking/begging/pleading for news about my progress with this story. Rest assured that I am still working on it - slowly, but surely - and I think the time I've taken off from it has reinvigorated my desire to work on this series (Yes, I know it's about time!). So, to pipe in on the 'Remember the writers' thread, your feedback can make a difference in whether stories get written. Your enthusiasm can feed a fanfic writer's energy, your enjoyment can remind us why we wanted to write a story in the first place, and your complaints can make us look at the characters in new ways.
