Greetings, gentle list members: The last three days have been one heck of a wild "weekend" for the intrepid folks of the Toronto Contingent aka "The Toronto Tour Guides Faction". (okay, not a faction as such, but "y'all" get the idea :-) ). On Thursday evening, we (as in Debbie Roche, Jonathan Tracy, and myself) welcomed Atlanta's own Sarah Chodrow, to the Home of the Knight :-) and yes, of course, we treated her to The Tour (tm :-) ) of several major and minor Forever Knight filming sites, including the studio that barely even looks like the Forever Knight studio of lore...oh well. Sarah's tour was unique, in that it was the first car tour conducted in the evening, if I recall correctly. On Friday in the late afternoon, after somehow managing to get through Friday afternoon "rush" hour, several highway exit ramp closures, and one wrong turn, I greeted Shreveport's Joe Hege, husband of list member Jana C. Hege (who is entering her ninth month of pregnancy and hence, was strongly advised against coming along). Joe had to get back to his hotel in time for a business meeting, so I only had time to give him a "half tour" including Casa Loma, the Raven, and the Coroner's Office. On Saturday afternoon, Sarah invited the Sisterhood of the Perpetual Writers :-) (Debbie Roche, Anna Sawitzky, and Trudy Goold...oh, and me, though I'm not a "sister" as such, of course :-) ) to her hotel room at the Hilton for some, well, writing. At 4:00, we were all introduced to Katya (not the same Katya as Hilary, of course :-) Waah, where were you, Hilary?!? ;-) ), the Toronto Contingent's newest member. Katya and I then met up with Jonathan, and after picking up Joe at the Regal Constellation, we proceeded to finish up the second half of his tour - IN POURING RAIN! The driving conditions were dangerous, to say the least, and some goofball nearly side-swiped my car while trying to pass me at something like 40 km/h over the posted speed limit (!!) ...and even though the stupid twit didn't hit me (whew!), the splash from the rain blinded me for about a second and a half - just enough time to have hit someone if anyone appeared in front of me...good grief (that didn't happen, though - whew). (Oh, and this was the first tour conducted in the rain, if I'm not mistaken! That makes for TWO tour "firsts" this weekend, good grief!) In spite of the insanity (hey, we never said that we were professional tour guides, and insanity IS usually the order of the day at these tours!! :-) ), much fun was had by all, but mind you, by the time that we got back to Sarah's apartment, I was so terribly frazzled (gee, someone almost got us killed, after all!!) that I wanted to be back home, tucked away in bed. One quick blood transfusion later (err, that's *Spite*, not blood), I whisked Joe back to the Regal Constellation and returned to the Hilton, by which time Trudy and Katya had left us (boo hoo!), but Lynne Ackerman had joined us (yay!). The remaining bunch of us then retired (so to speak) to the local Movenpick, where we experienced fine Austrian cuisine. Here I am at 2:00am, writing all about it. The moral of the story is: If you're an out-of-town list member who is planning to visit Toronto, please by all means write to me (or Lynne, or Marg, or any member of our "clique" - clique? Ha! We're too friendly to be a clique, so there! :-) ), and we'll try to arrange a tour and hopefully even a little "mini-soiree" afterwards! Cheers, (yawning!) Perky (but EXTREMELY tired) Cousin Will aka "Grandfather", Designated Driver and Spiritual Leader :-) of the Toronto Tour Guides "Faction". --- Will Steeves, B.Sc. Is it "just" a selection of music from the show's soundtrack, meaning it's all instrumental, or does it include anything with words? I infer the latter might be the case from something that was mentioned about monologues (maybe? I think?). I say "just" (ducking and running) because I'm not musical enough to listen to instrumentals without chronic wandering of the mind. To me, music's purpose is to serve as background for lyrics (heading for bomb shelter -- honest, I'm not defending this position -- I have a sister with a doctorate in music -- it just happens to be the way my brain is wired). What an engaging person! There was far more to Janette than ruthlessness, even as a vampire. In AFWTD, she gives shelter to prostitutes, whom she identifies with because of her life before becoming a vampire. In AMPH, she calls Nick to let him know that Natalie is with a vampire and in danger. She doesn't worry about any possible rivalry between her and Natalie. My impression of Nick in Only the Lonely was that, at that early point, he really might not have known the extent of his own feelings for Natalie. He reacted strongly to seeing her with someone else, which was probably the first time those feelings had been put to the test. He reacted, then felt that he had to justify the reaction, but because they did not have a declared love relationship with each other, the "brotherly" thing was his excuse. (I am not using the word "excuse" here in a negative way, as if Nick consciously lied to Natalie or something like that). At the time it happened, I think he most likely believed that his own feelings for Nat _were_ of a more brotherly nature, rather than of something romantic. Just then, it was certainly a lot safer to vent his emotions under the guise of "brotherliness" than to discover and acknowledge something more serious. He may not have consciously figured all of it out, but I think that Nick respected Nat very much, and that he knew what a good friend she was to him, so that being concerned for her in a "brotherly" way would be acceptable, and that's what he did. -- Lisa M., fearless and everlasting Nick&NatPacker - (wyllow@n.......) As far as I knew, the only forbidden topics on FORKNI are those that don't directly relate to FK and personal attacks on people. Your post didn't fit either of those criteria, IMO. In fact, I quite agreed with you on a lot of it. While there is certainly a lot to dislike intensely about THF (and Cynthia Hoffman gave a pretty good rundown of them) I thought THF added another intriguing dimension to an already fascinating and complex character, one which I don't agree was so far out of left field as to be unbelievable. As for the ending, did Janette die or not? I think not, but everyone is entitled to their opinion. And, the fact that there's obviously more than one interpretation of the ending (as evidenced by the differences of opinion on it) should *never* be considered a forbidden topic as long as people respect each other. Too many people on these lists take simple disagreement as a personal attack these days, IMO. Last I checked, this was a *discussion* list; we're not all supposed to agree on everything. Believe me I read posts that make me wonder just what show some people are watching and that make me want to tear my hair out at times, but I would *never* want anyone to apologize for holding the opinion they hold, even if it is at complete odds with mine and I say so. <g> Sharon (climbing down off her soapbox now). -- Sharon A. (and you! :) While I'm at it, could someone who has the entire first season (Canadian version) contact me too? Depending on how much it would cost, I'd like to buy those for myself since I haven't seen anything from the first season yet. Thanks a lot! _________________________________________________________________________ Frederic Ferland | mrhappy@m....... | Error, no keyboard http://www.mtl.net/solidarite/mrhappy/fk.htm | press F1 to continue. I'm not sure if I can post this here, and if not I apologize ahead of time. I have 3 books for sale of Anne Rice's under the name of A.N.Roquelaure. These books are about the erotic adventures of sleeping beauty. Because of the text I am requiring anyone interested in buying them to please send proof of age, (you must be 21 or older) driver's License, Photo ID. Please cover up license # or ID #. Some people are funny about sending a copy of their license to someone. I am asking $24 for the set plus $4.00 s&h. First person to e-mail me privately and is of age will get them. The episode is Father Figure, and the light the girl reflected on his face actually blinded him temporarily. He ran screaming to his downstairs bathroom, freaking out the girl in the process. There were a few responses, and I would like to add another- In ancient Ireland , Samhain, the Celtic New Year, marks the beginning of the dark season, when the worlds of the living and the dead are closest together. To keep the spirits of the dead out of their houses, the Celts used garlic. This is my own little theory, maybe it's a stretch, but, since Bram Stoker was born in Dublin, he may have known this. I read somewhere that much of the modern vampire canon (like FK) was based on "Dracula"...perhaps this Celtic tradition is what the garlic thing was based on... I know my herbalist has me on it for sinus infections, and it has been working. Perhaps the curing properties were noticed during ancient times and became associated with warding off vampires and other various ghouls. Just my .02 cents. First, LC realized that him being around constantly makes Nick angrier with him than normal. Second the Radio Show affords him more opportunity to slightly sting Nick more. All the shows are directed right at Nick, yet anyone else that is listen will also gain knowledge from it. Its like lifes little lessons. In *Human Factor*, LC uses what Nick has done to torment him more. And although LC doesn't take it to the limit, one gets the feeling that LC is putting this in his *War Materials* folder so to speak!
