Interesting. I haven't seen this one yet. Are there any other instances that

Antibiotics affect bacteria, not viruses. Not to say that garlic doesn't

Hey! I just saw my first ever commercial for FK yesterday!! Woo-who!

It was on during Tuesday afternoon's Highlander ep on USA. It was very
short, about 10 seconds, with a 5 second tag saying to call your cabel
company to get the Sci-Fi channel.

The commercial went like this:

  "A thirteenth century vampire..."
<clip of a flashback with Nick vamped out>
      <clip of setting sun>
  "A twentieth century cop..."
<clip of Nick having a good hair day in the caddy>
      <three more clips>
"Forever Knight. 8pm Eastern. Sci-Fi Mondays"

So, has anyone else seen this commercial? Can anyone name the eps all the
clips are from?

Just rewatched C&C a few nights ago, and it struck me as well, but this time
I finally realized why: Nick choked because Nat had just said "Don't you
worry your pretty little head about a thing", which was almost exactly what
Janette had said to him earlier in the Raven before the shooting ("Don't
worry your pretty little head about a thing").

Subject: Re: Nick and Nat; romanticism

I think Felicia misunderstood slightly what I was getting at when I
said that I have nothing but the highest admiration for couples that
can work around their problems, so I thought I'd try to prevent her
from scratching her head in confusion any longer (hi, Felicia!
<waving back>). My post was referring to Toni H.'s question: Could
you be satisfied with a non-sexual relationship?

My answer to *that specific question* was yes, I could, though it
would be damned difficult, and yes, I think *Natalie*--more to the
point--could (thought I think I forgot to stick Nat in there the first
time around!), and that many couples do work around that problem
due to AIDS, being paralyzed, etc. Maintaining a healthy, loving
realtionship with *that* kind of physical limitation *does* take
someone with a huge amount of inner strength, and *that* is what I
admire. There is nothing unhealthy about that sort of relationship,
provided that everything else is on an even keel. That sort of
relationship is right on par with a "normal" relationship, not held
way above it on some pedestal. It's just as valid, just as loving,
just as wonderful...and, imho, perhaps even more so because of
what it takes to maintain. I was equating Nick's vampirism with
one of these other challenges. Is there something "wrong" with a
man or a woman who chooses to become involved with someone
with a physical limitation because they love that person? I don't
think so, so long as they love the <person> and not the notion of the
disability.

So, if Nat loves <Nick>, that's a good thing; if Nat loves the idea of
being with someone who can't have sex, that's an unhealthy thing.

Does that make more sense? 'Cause, see, this is why I usually run
screaming for the hills from these kinds of debates. ;) ;) ;) It's
far too easy for all of us (myself definitely included) to "hear" a
slightly different version of what someone else said, and respond
to that rather than the word-by-word actual post, y'know?

Now, if I were to toss both Nick and Nat's shortcomings (and boy,
much as I love 'em both--separately and together--do they EVER
have their shortcomings!) into the equation, my answer would have
to shift slightly to say that they *could* have a healthy
relationship, the *potential* is there...but so is the potential for
muchisisimo unhealthiness, or "unwellness love." And, thanks to
inconsistent writing, we've seen a huge amount of unwellness. :(
We're not even able to agree on whether Nat loves Nick or his
"disability."

Which is why much fanfic has been written to "fix" the little
problem that TPTB dropped in our laps, and get Nick and Nat to
actually open up, to each other, together, in the same room, and
*talk* about what they do and don't want. And which is why, after
they've c-o-m-m-u-n-i-c-a-t-e-d <VBG> in fanfic, they sometimes
get and stay together, Nick sometimes leaves town or realizes that
he's most happy with Janette, and Nat sometimes gets Duncan
McLeod. ;) ;)

I don't wanna try to speak for other people, but for me, what I see
is *potential* for Nick and Natalie, not an as-is, existing, healthy,
romantic relationship. As "brickish" as they BOTH can be, there is
much to admire in each of them, and in my opinion, if they were to
open up to each other and choose to fuse their best parts, the result
could be exquisite.

And potential, of course, can swing in any given direction. If Nick
were to re-vamp himself again and embrace his Dark Knightiness
<g> (as I implode in on myself...<vbg>), he and Janette could once
more be exquisite together, too.

It's the fine line that makes the relationships especially
interesting to me, and it's a darned shame in sooo many ways that
we were forced to watch a Janette-less third season. It took too
much of the three-dimensionalness away from the show, and, as we
know, seriously messed with the balance between characters--and
thus the balance Nick tried to maintain bewteen the mortal and
vampire worlds. As did bringing back LaCroix in the present day,
but that's a whole 'nuther digest's worth of posts... ;)

Oh--almost forgot. If there's anyone out there who's not totally
sick of the subject by now, I'd really, really recommended hopping
over to the ftp site and reading some of the earliest FORKNI-L
digests. Some <great> in-depth discussions about Nick and Nat, Nick
and Janette and LaCroix, good and evil,
under-the-microscope/fascinating analysis of first-season
episodes and the characters, etc. And some posts there--and much
of the earlier fanfic, too (gosh, how could forget to mention
fanfic???)--will definitely help you see the characters in a
different and potentially more complex light.

'Cause, as we all know, when it comes to FK, *NOTHING* is ever as
simple as it seems. :D

Going back into semi-lurk mode now...

Just a thought from a lurker... I watch (read, listen to, debate) *alot* of
vampire stuff, and do have a tendancy to get my cannons crossed- but in at
least one it is pointed out that while vampire blood has *regenerative*
powers no matter how it enters the injured host, he or she will not
necessarily come across if he/she does not accept the blood orally. (I
think it has something to do with free will). I'm relatively sure this
isn't from FK, but who's to say it couldn't be used. (I like to think in
the ending, LC misses the heart, but catches a bit of nat's bod. Nick's
blood trickles in intraveinously and everything gets right back to abnormal
between those three!)

Forgot one more itty-bitty point I wanted to clarify. We could just
as easily be talking about a man who loves a woman in a
wheelchair, or who has AIDS, or cancer, or "vampirism" <g> as a
woman. If Nick and Nat's roles were reversed, the same rules about
healthy and unhealthy relationships would apply. And, of course,
they'd apply, too, if we were talking about two men or two women.
I don't see it as a gender-specific issue, unless, of course, I'm
missing Felicia's point, after I whined that she was missing mine
<g>??? Which is definitely possible. ;)

Ooooh... I smell a continuity tangle. :-)

In "Capitol Offense," Nick tells LC that he really meant it -- that he's
leaving him (this is discussed in the past tense, as a declaration already
made). He also accuses LC of following him. In NiQ, Nick declares that
he's leaving LC, as if for the first time. Thus, when I finally saw CO,
and with my spotty background in history, I assumed that the flashbacks
of CO must come after those of NiQ.

Of course, I wasn't thinking about FD, yet another failed attempt by Nick
to leave LC. He tries and tries to leave, but wherever he goes, LC finds
him eventually. Being LC's son is not unlike carrying a fatal and highly
communicable disease to which you are yourself immune....

Is CO then the earliest canonical example of Nick trying to leave LC?

In Janette's bed? Sorry. Couldn't resist.... :-)

The flashback timeline insists that he's in Paris, presumably fresh from
the Holy Land, sent home -- why? End of campaign? Wound? I assumed it
was because of the near-fatal wound Erica read in his blood in LA. In any
case, whether it was because he was fresh off the boat, as it were, or
because he was disillusioned and bitter, he had not yet been home to
Brabont.

Now, now. The loft is not the Apartment Building of the Damned.
Neither is it the Townhouse of the Damned.
Those are amusingly real in FK, but the loft is the Warehouse of the
Damned if it is anything. :-)

Last week, someone challenged me to explain, inside the story, why every
murder victim in TO lives in one of those buildings. It is a difficult
question. :-)

Let's try it this way:

Obviously, they are not the same buildings. Our characters are usually
sharp -- they would have noticed this by now. They must be buildings that
look the same. I don't dare speculate that TO has the most repetitive
architecture in the world, but FK's TO must have a large number of those
Townhouses and Apartments. In addition, there must be something about
these identical buildings that draws murder like a lightning rod. That
gives us either the Ghostbuster explanation -- the design of the building
concentrates evil -- or the "birds of a feather" explanation -- something
about those buildings subconsciously attracts those who might become
murder victims or perpetrators.
:-)
What? You thought I would admit that it had something to do with budgeting?

Even though I wish they had made love in NiQ, I don't think they did.
They did have that one outstanding kiss, though! And when Nick says
"What about last night?", I think he was referring to the kiss.
When Nat says that they can't "be together" like they want to be, she
means that they can't go any farther than the kiss. Then Nick asks her
if this is what makes her so sad. :(

There is an old survival trick used in the southwestern deserts.
It probably dates back to the native tribes in the area. Simply put,
one digs themself a shallow grave (about 2 feet deep), and hollows
out a conveniently large cactus barrel. You then put the cactus
at an angle to allow breathable air, and cover yourself up. It takes
practice, but you can avoid the worst of the blistering heat of the
day.
Whether it would work well enoughfor a vampire can only be
determined by experiment. SPF 1 Million might help too.

Adopting a rescued greyhound is mega-karma, but don't expect a lovable
frolicing pet. These poor dogs have usually had their spirits broken, and
may suffer from shin splints, cracked foot-bones and other chronic injuries.

They need a lot of love, a lot of attention, and *may* not be good
around children, despite what The Simpson's Santa's Little Helper may lead
you to believe. If you can make the committment, go for it! If not, you'll
be hurting the dog and yourself.

As for names; how about Screed?

Nick appears to be speaking Chinese to one of the women in the second half of
the "Dark Knight" pilot; the scene before the uzi-wielding maniac takes the
girl hostage and Nick and Schanke have to go in after him. He also speaks it
to the Chinese concubine in (?, the third-season ep with the cockfighting
backstory--- is it Jane Doe?)

Okay, guess I was mistaken. I thought the episode Queen of Harps took
place in Ireland. (Pause while I check previous digest.)

Would Welsh (Bretonic/P-Celtic branch) and (Irish) Gaelic
(Goidelic/Q-Celtic branch) be mutually intelligble in the 13th C?
(On second thought, how about I go ask my Historical Linguistics prof.
I'll let the list know.)

So we have so far,
English (given, all epsisodes)
French (most episodes)
Flemish (native language) (assumed)
Latin (as a knight in the crusades) (assumed)
German (1966)
Vietnamese (Can't Run, Can't Hide) (Korean, perhaps?)
Spanish (Sons of Belial)
Welsh (Queen of Harps, assumed)

Have any been missed?

I was just playing around at the Cable Guy sweepstakes and you take this
little tv test to test how much you know about TV (shows how much time
you sepend in front of the tube *LOL*) but anyways here is what came up:

Tony Danza's latest TV comedy series is called Hudson Street. His
                              previous sitcoms include:

                                  Who's the Boss?

                             Married... With Children

                                   Forever Knight

Foever Knight!!! right there I just thaught you would all like to see...

ROTFL... FK:AKA, I Love Lucian. Featuring the zany antics of Lucian
LaCroix and Nicky Knight. On tonights epiode, LaCroix leaves human prey
all over the Raven and Nicky is bringing Schanke ant Nat back to the club
with him. "Lucian!! You got some splainin to do!!" Hmmm, I think I feel a
parody in the making. Ducking and running very quickly, Sorcha

Does the tag in NiQ end with LC saying "and with a friend like the
Nightcrawler, who needs enemies" and then the credits roll? The copy I have
is off of USA (thanks to a kind soul) and it seems clipped. Like LC just
barely gets to finish saying "enemies" before the credits start in.

Curiously,

Not only that but I think one of the other names I saw in the Producers
credits is Jon Slan. Quite a switch... From vampire cops to wilderness and
animal enthusiasts... ;) Anyways I watch the show often.
