I don't know if it is cannon, but I am thinking along these lines.
Nat is a doctor in Canada. That means she had to take the Canadian tests for
her liscence, and hence had to have some sort of formal education in France.
Therefore, I would think she is Canadian, and could speak French. Isn't that
the language of the goverment? I am totally clueless, but I always assumed
that she did speak it....

Re: Why can't Nick ever be happy at the end of an ep (excepting DFF)?

Now, how does TV usually show the hero/antihero enjoying himself?

     1. Usual cop show tenet: Getting the "bad guy"
More often than not, Nick accomplishes this by some use of his
vampiric powers, whether it be vampire strength, vampire speed, flight, or
just immunity to bullets. This just sets up Nick for more angst about
"giving in" to the Vampire.

     2. The arms of a good woman:
The first question here, at least before 3rd season, was "which
one?" Discounting the "neck of the week", we have Nat, and the "love
her/kill" her problem, with all its attendant angst; and Janette, with the
"giving in" problem again.
With the airing of DoN. we know that Nick has another load of
pent-up angst with what happened to Alyssa, his "true love".

     3. A few drinks with the boys:
Unless "the boys" are LC and Vachon, this is out of the question.
And if they are LC and Vachon, we've got that pesky "giving in" problem
again.

I can't think of a fourth right now. You know, with angst hidden where
happiness, or at least satisfaction, should lie, I'm surprised Nick hasn't
walked into the sunrise long before this.

As far as I know there is no 'canon' about whether or not Natalie speaks
French. If she's like most Canadians, she learned French in school (up
through high school and possibly but not necessarily university), and then
promptly forgot it all because she doesn't use it on a regular basis.

Canada may be a bilingual country, but the language of government, commerce,
etc. in Ontario is English. Official documents and help in French are
available for anyone who requests it but, as far as I know, you have to ask
for it.

My guess is that Natalie is a fairly average Ontarian which means she has a
rudimentary understanding of French; enough to puzzle through simplistic
documents, but not to follow a rapidly spoken conversation. She would pick
up words here and there, but that's about it.

Subject: Another FK-SOS idea - Music stores & FK CD

I was thinking about how to get the music stores to start carrying the FK CD.

Call up or visit music stores in your area. Ask them if they will special
order it. If they say yes, ask them if you could hang flyers, and leave
copies, with the FK CD info in their store. The flyer would contain the FK
SOS campaign info, as well as stating that if you wish to order the CD, the
store will special order it. It's free advertising for the store and will
bring in business for them. Also, I was thinking of making up pads of paper
that would have customers put down their name, address, e-mail address, phone
number, etc. for those who would be interested in receiving information on
Forever Knight. This would be left on the counter, with the stores
permission, for all the customers to see when purchasing other music. Then
pick up the filled out forms once a week or so.

This flyer campaign would be seen by a large population. I was thinking of
doing this at the Natick Mall in Natick MA. It is a HUGE mall and has 2 or 3
music stores (Sam Goody and The Wall).

Let me know what you think of this idea. I don't know if this has been
mentioned before so excuse me if it has.

In the area of dark, somewhat adult cartoons, no one has mentioned the
current animated Batman series. I can't stand the way they draw men's
faces, but overall, the style would seem to lend itself to serious fiction.

If Nick died, has he done enough atonement to go to Heaven?

The question is phrased in the wrong terms. Yes, Nick thinks of it that way,
but his theology is screwed up. In Christianity, it is impossible for anyone
to atone for his own sins. The atonement has been accomplished, once for
all, and the sinner has only to accept it in faith. Nick's repentance alone
(if sincere -- which has been amply demonstrated by how hard he tries) is
enough to get him into Heaven.

True, in Roman Catholic theology, the person who dies with a heavy burden of
sins may have to spend time in Purgatory getting "cleaned up," so to speak,
before moving on to Heaven. Maybe that's what would happen to Nick if he
died now. OTOH, hasn't he suffered enough to suggest that he has had his
"Purgatory" on Earth already?

It's an off-topic thread! Quick! Kill it! KILL IT! Auuuuuugh!

I don't know what any of these shows are (I have a vague recollection of
Bonanza) but personally, I never missed an episode of Battle of the
Planets... the show that got renovated and re-dubbed and made even cheesier
(which I wouldn't have thought possible) and is now showing on the Cartoon
Network as "G-Force". I don't think there were ever any horses on that
show, though.

But I do think that if FK were a cartoon, it ought to be Japanimation.
Natalie looks like she ought to be anime, in any case. (I'm not sure who
first made this observation, but it's accurate.)

This is more applicable to the "FK as Cartoon" thread, obviously; but at
least it's *almost* on topic.

I probably have a warped mind -- okay, I know I have a warped mind -- but
every time I see the subject line, "Nick and Horses", I keep thinking it's
some reeeeeeeally weird new faction... maybe a subset of the Unnamed...?

...But let's not go there. :-)

I think they are just following the long tradition of vampires spooking
horses, Roxanne. Animals generally are spooked by vampires, but just
about every vamp movie has a vamp/horse sequence.

My personal favorite is the dreamy/dreadful scene of the pure white
horse pawing at the grave of a newly buried vamp. Now if I could only
remember *which* Dracula movie that's in...

Well, of course that's the *practical* reason. But where's the fun in
that? :-) Sheesh, it would be like explaining LK by saying that TPTB are
stupid and cruel! Undeniably true, but completely undiscussable. :-)
Some of us (Me! Ooh! Me!) really *like* explaining the larger significance
of all the small coincidences and reconciling all the apparent
inconsistencies ("The Battle of Hastings" refers to a food fight! Really!)
(Thanks, Celeste!). Once something gets on the screen, it is part of the
larger text of FK, and is thus fair game for interpreting to our hearts'
content. :-)

Taking the prison sequence in DFF, the fact that it clearly occurs in the
same cell as is used to hold prisoners in numerous episodes (right into
the second season, I believe, though that's easily explained by the
duplication of governmental architecture) means, first, that the cell is
familiar enough to Nick that it has settled into his subconscious (and
this is before he had to spend time in one in KI).

Second, it means that Nick is not merely feeling imprisoned by his
vampirism, he is specifically identifying with criminals (and suspected
criminals) in a holding cell. Once again, he is blaming himself as well
as LC, his famous guilt taking a hand in the symbolism.

Third, it speaks again to that adaptability (which is one of my pet
theories of successful vampires, and those LC chooses for his family)
which is demonstrated on the Spirit Path in "Blackwing," as well as in the
rudiments of daily life. Nick's subconscious has not lingered in the
thirteenth century; he has become a part of each age as it has passed,
without losing his essential self. His subconscious imprisons him in a
modern holding cell, not a medieval dungeon. His form on the Spirit Path,
presumably his "true self," or at least his self-image, wears the same
clothing he wears in 1995 life, while the others in that place dress like
their ancestors.

See? Isn't it more fun like this? :-)

I know you may not personally accept this, but we don't flame here.
Really. I am still in awe of the kind, thoughtful, generous,
compassionate, intelligent, creative and forgiving people who populate
forkni-l. Because I have such respect for my fellow listmembers, it
always bothers me a little to see that defensive statement attached to
small things; it takes something pretty substantial to push the flame
button around here. (Hi, L. <g>)

Subject: Bedard, Lalonde, & the LK "blooper" script

Hi again everyone...

I have found someone who's willing to forward mail to Phil Bedard and
Larry Lalonde, writers of many excellent FK episodes and most especially
the perpetrators of the Last Knight "blooper" script that's being
distributed for charity. Yes, I know the front of the script says it's by
"Michael Sadewski", but that's just a send-off on the name of the writer
of the real Last Knight script. Before auctioning it off at Syndicon
East, Nigel said that Phil & Larry wrote the blooper script.

I thought I'd mail Messrs. Bedard & Lalonde a thank-you note for sending
us all into hysterics with this spoof version of the script. :^) If
anyone else has comments or whatever they'd like passed on to B&L, whether
about the blooper script or anything else, feel free to e-mail me off-list
at <percy91@w.......> and I'll include your notes. I think
they'll appreciate the feedback! :^)

The story credits for Phil Bedard and Larry Lalonde include:

Near Death
Stranger than Fiction
My Boyfriend is a Vampire
Sons of Belial
The Human Factor
Ashes to Ashes

I don't think this is a complete listing, though, since I haven't yet
figured out how to do a search of the entire episode guide heirarchy of
directories at Jasmine's web site. (Consider this a plea for a text
version of the episode guide all in one file so that searching for cast &
crew names would be easier!!) Phil Bedard & Larry Lalonde were also the
Co-supervising Producers during the 3rd season of FK.

BTW, lovers of "Dracula: The Series" might have seen Phil play a schnitzel
delivery man in last week's Dracula episode. I think he also played a
zombie on that show once. :^)

Hi all!

Ok, I have a few questions regarding FK. Its minor stuff, but some
of you are much better a keeping track of this type of info than I am!
BTW, some of these may not have an answer...

1. On what night of the week did Last Knight take place?

2. Is Sydney, the cat, a he or a she? (The same might
be asked of CousinSJS...? :^) )

3. How quickly do vampire bites heal in victims who wind up
    neither dead nor a vampire?
(I know the *other* vampire show implied that vampire
bites healed quickly due to healing properties in
a vampire's saliva. But was is FK canon on this
         issue?)

Just curious!

Sorry for misposting a private note (Hi, Carrie) but I was going
to post that info to the list anyway. So, for everyone....

Just a reminder - The first showing of the Outer Limits episode with
GWD is scheduled to be shown tomorrow (Sunday) at 10 PM (East
coast). Here's the blurb from the SHOWTIME web site.

"A Sheriff's investigation into the disappearances of several
elderly women leads him to the startling conclusion that
they're not actually missing. Rather, they've been
mysteriously restored to youth. Further investigation
reveals that their biological clocks have been reversed
for the purposes of bearing alien children!

All Times Indicated Are For Eastern/Pacific Time Zones.
 Showtime - June 16, 10:00 PM
Showtime - June 18, 9:30 PM"

Also, for those attending the Weekend With Ger -
Info from Rosemary Shad --- every hotel room is equipped with a
video cassette player in it!
