Himmanen" <romana@i.......> Subject: It's that time of year again! Oh, no! Just like Freddy Kruger, Jaws, Jean Claude van Damme, the Benny Hill thread, Jason and the acid-blood aliens (part 4 coming soon), it's BACK!!!! Oh my stars and garters! Call The X-Men! Call The PowerPuff Girls! It's...The Second Annual Call for Birthday Fiction for Susan Garrett!!!!! Ever wanted to write a really strange and bizarre story outlining the life and times of Buttercup (the PowerPuff Girl not the Princess Bride!)? Or wondered how Nick would get along with The Three Stooges? Or wondered how LaCroix and Elmo would get along? Or just wanted to write a story but thought no one would be interested? Well now's your chance! Do it for Susan! Why? 'Cause it's her birthday! (Or at least it will be in a few weeks.) Here's how it's done: 1. You can write about *anything.* It doesn't necessarily have to be about "Forever Knight. Hey! This is for Susan! The sky's the limit. 2. To post, or not to post, that is up to the author. If it's an FK story post it here. If not, then post it in some appropriate venue and let Susan know. Or send it to me (at romana@i.......--email me for snail mail address if you want that option) or send it directly to Susan at susang@v........ 3. Susan's birthday is August 11th. I'm putting the call out now because some of us are slow writers and might need two months to come up with something. Please indicate in your opening comments that it is fiction for Susan and feel free to post or send it to her at any time. 4. It's OK to do something totally off the wall and bizarre. In fact, where Susan is concerned, that sort of thing is *encouraged.* 5. And most important of all, DON'T BE SHY! If you've read and appreciated Susan's fiction, but you've never written anything or if you're like me and you think you suck, write something *anyway*! This is a gift and will most certainly be appreciated. We did this last year, and Susan got a lot of really cool fiction, some posted to the net, some not. It worked so well, I wanted to do it again! Lets generate *lots* of fiction especially for Susan, OK. Have at it and may fictional character everywhere have mercy on us all... <g> Sharon -- Sharon A. There was just something about the look on Nick's face after LaCroix belts him ... like he wasn't the slightest bit surprised -- but not defiant, either. It really added a lot of depth to both characters for me, and was the moment I began to think of Nick as an "abused child" so to speak. ---- TJ ========================================================================= Date: Wed, 5 Jun 1996 14:50:20 -0600 From: "Elena Villafuerte H." <evilla@u.......> Subject: IT WILL HAPPEN, if we Make it Happen! Some fans even went so far as to buy Spam and Spam Lite so they could mention to Hormel that they purchased the product when writing to thank them for advertising on FK. IMNSHO, that's going above and beyond the call of duty. In fact, much of the strategy devised last year and in the first few months of this year by our esteemed SOS-FK leaders (including Jamie, Susan Garrett, Lisa Prince, Cynthia Hoffman, Laura Fargas, Karen Tobin, the NATPE-7 and many, many others [if I didn't mention your name, don't yell at me -- I know you all worked hard]) has been duplicated by a lot of other shows. The only other person to accept him as he is is Janette, (Ahem!) Janette *accepts* him? I would very much disagree with this! Janette is the one who keeps telling him that what he wants isn't what he should want (i.e., to be human). She tells him that this is futile, he should give it up. She has stated on more than one occasion that she doesn't understand this desire of his to be mortal again. This is NOT accepting Nick as he is, because part of what he *is* wants to be mortal again. So, imho, Janette acts just as judgemental as Natalie--and, I would contend, more so. See below. > As much as he loves Natalie (and I do believe he does) he felt she could > never totally accept and understand the vampire in him, until ofcourse, > "Francesca". That's how I looked at it....my zwei pfennig. I can't help but think that you're doing Nat a disservice. Of course, I've been with the show from the beginning and that probably colors my view, but in Dark Knight Nat makes it perfectly clear that it was *Nick* who came to *her*. "Is this the man who came *begging* for my help so that he could see a sunrise?" she asks (or words to that effect). At least in first season, Nick did not want to be "accepted" and "understood" as a vampire: he wanted help to get *rid* of the vampire. That's what he asked Nat. And she took him at his word (perhaps unwisely?). Nat doesn't keep at Nick because *she* wants a cure, at least not entirely and I think not chiefly. She is the friend--and professional--who keeps at him because HE wants the cure, and wants her to hold him to it even during his darkest doubts (see "Feeding the Beast", also first season). This focus was lost, I think, in subsequent seasons. For people who came on board in later seasons, I can certainly understand why you might not agree with me. Since there has been quite a number of these messages coming through lately, I just wanted to let any newbies know, we have already been doing all of this and the addresses have already been gathered. The hit the advertiser's campaign has been up and running since January and included sending the advertisers receipts for proof of purchase and letters stating that we supported them specifically because they supported FK with their advertising dollars. Quite a number of people got return letters from the advertisers thanking them for their feedback. It's a great idea and certainly does get the advertiser's attention. Anyway, I do believe that the advertiser page is still a sub-page of the SOS-FK web-page, Jamie? Is that right? If not, I know that Karen Tobin has been maintaining a web-page of pertinent addresses. When was the last time you saw one of these from me? This is a press release I put together for Bridging the Knight and I'd like some help getting it out there. Anywhere you want to send it, send it. My only request is that if you post it to usenet, remove the phone numbers ... in a no doubt futile effort to keep the roar down to a manageable level, if at all possible. I'll probably have an update to it in the near future ... but let's get this ball rolling, shall we? BRIDGING THE KNIGHT Forever Knight Charity Auction to be held in San Francisco (San Francisco, California, June 4, 1996) Continuing a three-year tradition of support for various charitable organizations, the cast, crew and fans of the Canadian television program "Forever Knight" are planning a charity wrap party for their show, with proceeds to benefit Toronto's Casey House, an AIDS Hospice, and the Canadian Diabetes Association. Fans of the program have a history of supporting those in need, and now they want to do something for the country that brought them the show. "It was time to repay the favor," said event organizer Star Urioste. "This program originates from Canada -- but the charitable benefits have up to now accrued to United States charities, including Children's Hospitals and the Pediatric AIDS Foundation. We thought it was time to give something back to the country that produced the show." The event is set for the weekend of October 18 - 20, 1996 in San Francisco, California at the Holiday Inn Union Square. The weekend will include a traditional fan convention dealer's room, featuring specially designed items that will be available only at this event. The highlights of the weekend are a Wrap Party on Saturday night featuring three live musical groups, and an auction of "Forever Knight" wardrobe and properties, with auctioneer Jayne Largent. Confirmed guests include series actor Nigel Bennett and writers PN Elrod and Gillian Horvath. Invited but not yet confirmed are the show's creator and executive producer, James Parriott and composer Fred Mollin. ### ========================================================================= Date: Wed, 5 Jun 1996 22:12:35 +0000 From: Karen Tobin <ktobin@t.......> Subject: Re: IT WILL HAPPEN, if we Make it Happen!
