Hi All,
While I am still in New England, I would love a chance to meet in person some
of the FKer's back here. So I thought this is a great opportunity for a party.
I will be holding an FK party for the last episode "Last Knight" on
Saturday, May 18th, in my
Suite at the Marriot. The hotel is the:
Marriott Residence Inn
500 Kilvert St.
Room 1014
Warwick, RI 02887
(401) 737-7100
There will be carpools heading down from Mass and there is a shuttle bus
from various locations in RI.
I can also pick some people up who are in relative shooting distance.
I have a VCR here and copies of seasons 1, 2 and 3. I also have lots of
extras such as
Air Wolf, Commercials, Deadly Harvest, Ghost Mom, Other Women's Children,
various TV shows with FK Cast members, and the blooper reel.
For those who haven't been to a San Francisco Bay area party - I am also known
as the Catering Cousin. My suite has a full kitchen and I will provide all
the food. I am open
to requests.
People are welcome to bring Sleeping bags and stay the night.
Alternately, there are over a dozen
motels and hotels within the immediate area (I am very close to TF Green
Airport). Unfortunately,
the Marriott is currently booked for that night, but if people would like, I
can get them to put me on
a waiting list for additional rooms (MetLife rate is $80/night) and they
will save the first cancelation
for us. The rooms have a queen size bed and a queen size sleep sofa as
standard - larger suites have
more beds.
Please R.S.V.P. so I can get an approximate head count. Of course, all
guests are welcome.

I think we need to start a letter-writing campaign to save Real Life.
There just hasn't been enough reality in my life lately.
This might be a spoiler for this weekend's episode of Real Life, but I
think I heard that a bunch of the characters are going to attend a thing
called "Syndicon East." I know my Real Life alter-ego will be there, so
please say hi to the red-head wearing a pink button that says something
about Spam.
Re: War 5 filming locations -- Did you know that the building that's
supposed to be Merc Central in War 5 was actually a library? And the
Happy Souvlaki Deli is really an Italian restaurant called the Old
Spaghetti Factory?
Any confusion caused by this post should be blamed on Dianne. Her story
has caused a rift in my own personal space-time continuum, and I can't
tell which universe I'm in right now.

eps. When I compared my tapes to my list of the eps I discovered that I
was missing "Ashes to Ashes" between "Jane Doe" and "Francesca". I'm
pretty sure I didn't forget to watch FK one week but would really like to
know what's going on and if I will have the chance to get a copy of
"Ashes to Ashes". Would some kind soul enlighten me? Please!?! Also, am I
correct in assuming that NB directed AtA?

You read "Vice Versa" and it takes about 5 minutes before you realize
the piece is fanfic and not the List <vbg>
I LOVE that story! I hope it gets into the next "Forever NET".
It was the most innovative piece of fanfic I have seen in a long time
(and we have some pretty creative minds posting on FKFIC!) I even
loved the people's Net addresses!
I had to post this "Bravo" to the List because I am hoping to get
others <hint! hint!> who haven't subscribed to FKFIC to do so ASAP!

I dropped a note to KOFY recently, saying that I was delighted to
see new FK eps but a little frustrated because I'd been waiting
for "Games Vampires Play" to be shown again, and just as it was
about to be, we got a new ep instead. So I asked whether they
would be rerunning the other eps. Here's part of their reply:
You are correct in that the show has been canceled
by its producers, Columbia Pictures. We are, however,
continuing to air the show until the end of this season
which will be in September.
So we should have a good slew of reruns after "Last Knight."
I'm sure this is true of the other syndication markets (except
maybe for places with uncooperative TV stations), so we all
should have eps to enjoy for another few months.

Anyone who's read my fanfic stories with the child vampire character,
Michael, knows that this is a topic which fascinates me. One of the most
interesting things about them is that there are physical changes that take
place in a child's brain while they mature. So, a child vampire, frozen in
that stage of development, would never possess an adult brain. They may be
astoundingly experienced, but there would be certain mental functions which
they may never be able to perform or only with a great deal of difficulty.
How old they were when they were brought over would have a great deal to do
with which skills wouldn't be developed. For instance, a vampire brought
over at 5 or 6 will have some problems with the concept of conservation. You
know, Piaget's experiment where the same amount of liquid is poured into a
tall glass and a squat glass. The child, though clearly having seen the same
amount of liquid poured into each glass, thinks there is more in the tall
glass, because it _looks_ bigger. I think, through experience, over time,
they would overcome these liablities caused by the arresting of their
development, but they would never approach the world as an adult does. And
other parts of the brain, such as the language center, would never close
down.
Both Divia and Daniel seemed to be about 11 or 12, which is about as close to
adult as you can get with out suffering through puberty. So, functionally,
they were close to adulthood, which would give them the best chance for
survival. Unless carefully tended, younger children would not tend to
survive, in my opinion. No matter how old these beings get, there will be a
part of them that will remain eternally child-like, besides their physical
bodies.

..you smoosh the front end of your car against the back end of an
even bigger car (which, unlike your car, did *not* smoosh--which
is a relatively good thing, insurance-wise) while trying to get a
better look at what all the TCI Cablevision guys and their vans and
trucks are doing along your main commute drag. (Like six or seven
of them... I was counting when the smoosh happened.)
The left front end of my car looks like somebody took a can opener
to it, then peeled the paint from the metal for good measure. At
least the smoosh didn't damage any internal organs.
For you Berkeley-ites, Ashby is crawling with TCI crews these
days. Maybe they're laying fiberoptic cable to bring you
Sci-Fi?????? Hey, hope springs eternal. Ask Nick.

This is a list I posed to the SKL silliness loop a couple weeks ago. I
thought the list in general might get a chuckle or two out of it...
After Nick killed off LC for a season in DK, other arch nemesises (is that a
word?) were considered. Here then are the top ten arch nemesises that
*didn't* replace LaCroix:
10. Barney the Dinosaur: "I love you, you love me, we're a vampire
family..."
9. A Hostess Cupcake: but only with the stipulation that Nick becomes
mortal and has to battle his constant cravings for cream-filled snack foods.
8. Helga the Hefty Masseuse: "Oh Nicky-poo, come to Helga! Helga loves
you! Let Helga massage all your silly little troubles away!"
7. Bill Gates: the Microsoft magnate forces Nick to use computers to
solve a puzzle in each episode and punishes him by electronically changing
his name from Nick Knight to "Rick Springfield".
6. Damien, the evil Hamster: the furry little rodent thwarts each of
Nick's attempts to win Nat's heart by sneaking into his pocket and biting his
pink parts just before he can say "I love you."
5. Tom Brokaw: the suave midwestern anchorman buys the Raven and decorates
it like the set of the Today Show. Bryant Gumble replaces Miklos.
4. a downtown traffic light: it always turns green just when Nick needs
a few quiet moments to gave a flashback.
3. The Thong in Question: the slinky undergarment rides up Nick's crack
every time he tries to fly to a crime scene, thus impeding his progress and
making him look bad in the captain's eyes.
2. cheesecake: oh, wait, that's MY arch nemesis. Sorry.
And the number one arch nemesis that *didn't* replace LaCroix was:

Subject: Killer Instinct
I finally got to see my first secon season ep, and it just happened to
be the season opener. Since I'm *pretty* sure that all of secon season is
no longer under spoiler protection (or however you want to say it) I
thought I would share my thoughts on the ep.
1. I didn't like the woman captain at all. The actress' performance
seemed wooden and stilted. It felt to me like she was trying to hard to
be a female version of Stonetree. I thought she could have done a much
better job. Just my opinion.
2. It's been so long since I've seen any eps from the first season that
I'd forgotten how campy the writing was at first. Schanke is just so much
fun!!
3. The entire fighting scene with Nick and LaCroix was just too...
chintzy. I don't want a lot of flames for this but I think the filming of
it could have been done a bit better. It looked to me like one of those
really old films where they didn't have the speed quite right. It just
looked like they just played it on fast forward.
4. I did really like the bit with Nick not knowing who it was that was
following him. It was great to see him re-learning how to be a vampire,
sort of. He learned how to be connected to the rest of the community again.
5. It was kind of funny when Nat told Schanke that she switched the
blood samples because Nick's "allergy" was so severe that if it the
department knew the true nature of it, it could jeoprodize Nick's career.
The scene at the end with them explaining the situation to the captain
was pretty funny too.
OK... enough of my ranting. You can all tromp on me now if you wish.
I'll just get you back in the next war :-)

Subject: Raven Lyrics, Digest problems
I think I read a post from someone recently inquiring after the lyrics to the
Raven songs on the Forever Knight CD.
Fred Mollin is currently in the process of editing the typed-up lyrics that I
sent him (he said he didn't have time to type them up so I sent him what I'd
already deciphered!). He'll send them back to me when he's finished.
I'll keep you posted regarding these!
Could someone send me the following digest? AOL won't let me download this
and every time I do, the entire program locks up! Thanks in advance!

Subject: Roadblocks, "Real Life", and FK CD
Anyone know any reason why my stupid account keeps hiccuping stuff from
last week at me? Is $P in the middle of a seizure, or what? I've had about
12 e-mails drop in the last 48 hours that are all dated prior to April 30!
And one of them is the first part of Susan Garrett's "Diligence" story that
I didn't even know I was missing!!! Grrrr...... Is there some roadblock
happening somewhere in cyberspace that would explain the delay, or is my
e-mail software on the fritz again?
ObFKFic-L: Go read Dianne's story. :) Really, you'll *like* it. The idea
of Lacroix writing fanfic... has a strong appeal. Fanfic about US. Think
about it; who would he write about? Doing what? To whom? The mind reels* at
the thought of what he could do with some of the personalities on this list....
(*Spider Robinson joke: Actually, my mind doesn't reel anymore. It spins on
compact disc these days...)
ObFK: Caught Deborah Duchene's bit in "Beyond Reality" on Sunday; a tiny
part, but she made the most of it. Although the question that came to mind
was "why is it legal for her to look that good in jeans and a tank?" Real
Life isn't fair... I can never manage that kind of allure in casual dress.
Has anyone heard anything more about what she's doing? And when is the
Canadian pilot season, anyway?
Un-ObFK, way overdue-- on the Forever Knight CD:
Fred, this is a terrific CD. I now have the whole suite for "Queen
of Harps" memorized... I zap it into my computer at work and listen to it
while I do rewrites. But oh, I could almost wish for a copy of the score
for some of these songs; to know _exactly_ where the "Nick & Natalie" part
of the "Forward into the Past" suite starts, and where some of the other
bits contained within larger suites begin and end. I've got QoH down, now I
want to understand the rest.

Cheshire stretched, her spine bowing nearly in half. She'd
tried to sleep, but as usual on a sweltering hot Toronto night,
there were too many noises out there. She stretched again,
listened to her joints pop, and decided she might as well go see
what was shaking on the Internet.
She slipped a long silk shirt on--for the sake of propriety,
nothing else; she avoided wearing clothes when she could--and
padded downstairs to her console. While her computer was booting
up, she walked across the living room and threw open the one window
that was still closed. She thrust her head out and inhaled
mightily. Ozone. Curious. Certainly wasn't any rain in the
forecast. Why should she smell--
Her hackles were stiff as she threw herself into the chair in
front of her console. Her face twitched spasmodically, trying to
find phantom whiskers, but her fingers danced over the keyboard in
a blur. Green eyes wide, she skimmed through her e-mail, scanning
for one name. There. She halted the scroll, accessed the message.
It read:

police-oriented, need to be intercepted at the coded address below.
Big Crow's flunky Cuz J has the goods. Remove Cuz J from action

One police package belongs to Dark Policeman. Enjoy barter.
Live package needs to be returned soonest possible. Paper packages
are open for barter. Make good deals with all parties save Big
Crow--open target.
Little Crow needs wings clipped. Assign projects as you see
fit. All quadrupeds actively involved.
Pasht be with you!
So. So, so, so, so. She'd thought something was afoot. The
unseen Nine rarely became so active as to seep their distinctive
ozone-like scent into the corporeal realm, but it seemed that the
activity of certain nightcrawlers had attracted their attention.
"Thanks, friends," she whispered, once more grateful that she had
chosen as she had so long ago before Pasht. Neither solid nor
ethereal paws would aid her in the assignment she'd been given.
No, it was opposable thumbs, all the way.
Cheshire rubbed her hands together gleefully. She'd been
waiting for a chance to humiliate that puffed up, arrogant,
self-centered son of jackal. Not to mention his lackeys. The
bartering should be fun indeed! But first, she needed to deal with
Little Crow. And there was only one Nine who could successfully
clip her wings.
Grinning, she picked up the phone and dialed that magic,
enigmatic number--999-9999. She often wondered how Panther had
gotten such a unique phone number. Probably had an inside line to
BC Tel. When the connection came through, she listened
attentively. One ring...two...three...
Click. "Pasht be with you."
"And with you."
"Purrpose?"
"Little Crow flies too high. Sid says to clip her wings."
"Done." Click.
Cheshire's grin widened. She doubted if *any* nightcrawler had
ever encountered a Gifted Feral, and certainly not one like
Panther. She hung up the phone, thinking that if a member of
Little Crow's flock tried to stop Panther, that particular
bloodsucker was in for a *very* big surprise.
She turned back to her computer, decoded the address for Cuz J,
switched the machine off and dashed upstairs for some clothes. She
had a definite feeling that those packages were going to move later
in the day, and she wanted to be there to make the interception.
Dressed in a light chocolate t-shirt and matching sweats,
Cheshire stepped out of her loft to find a burly marmalade tom
standing guard next to the door. She smiled as she set the
rotating code for the door lock, then squatted down in front of the
cat.
"Watch well, brother. The prey is clever."

"No," she murmured, "they don't, do they?"
She grinned, a true Cheshire cat grin, and the marmalade tom
purred as she faded completely from sight.
