Good, that makes me feel much better (assuming I do get to see it on Sci-Fi).
That scene sounded like an important scene, for a number of reasons, so I
really want to see the ep with that scene in it.

They do. Or at least we have had strong indications. :) Nick was
shown in the flashback to first season's Last Act having a relationship
with a female vampire named Erica. A scene where they are kissing
ends up in mutual biting in the American version. The Canadian version
of the same episode shows a scene of them sort of snuggled together
talking which has a definite post-coital tone (to me). In second
season's Baby, Baby is an even stronger scene that seems to show that
vampires engage in normal sex as well as biting. Nick brings over a
woman named Serena in what seems to be the 1920's and they are shown
(apparently naked by all indications, although you don't really see
a whole lot of their bodies as this ain't NYPD Blue ;) ) in what I
can only interpret as a sex scene judging by the movements (Serena is
on top, btw). James Parriott himself once said that vampire sex
involved penetration above and below the neck (or something like that).

But since sex for FK vamps involves biting, it can be dangerous for
mortals to get involved in relationships with vampires for obvious
reasons.

Well, Steve... <wcg> You can always be a Light Cousin.
All the pleasure of admiring LC's conviction, strength, knowledge,

Subject: Holds and Nick's bringing over

There are two kinds of holds. One is when the listowner or owners locks
the list to prevent mail from going out. This is rare and is usually
done when the owner is trying to put out a flame war or prevent a specific
problem.

No, I'm not an owner of Forkni-l, but I used to be one for the FK lists,
and I'm stil an owner elsewhere.

The other kind of hold is mechanical. This happens when there's trouble
at the site of the listserv, or the list exceeds its message limit for
the day, or the disk that holds archives gets full. In those situations
the listserv holds the list. When the problem is more messages than the
limit, the owners can issue the command to free the list. It's only
a precaution to prevent looping. In the other cases, the problem must
be handled by the sysops at the site.

As for why LaCroix chose Nick and brought him over, we don't know. We did
see Janette seduce him at a rowdy banquet in the flashbacks for Dance by
the Light of the Moon, first season, and bring LaCroix in to do the actual
biting. She has to tell Nick who LaCroix is. We see a little more of the
process in the flashbacks for Near Death, second season, but nothing more
about the whys and wherefores.

In first season's Dance By the Light of the Moon, the flashbacks
deal with a mortal Nick's seduction by Janette. Nick and his
crusading buddies are partying in a tavern. Nick spies Janette by
a door, and she mouths, "How badly do you want me?" The next
flashbacks have them in a private room at various stages of the
seduction (and quite sexy scenes they are too ;) ). Anyway, they
engage in sex (I think, although some people don't agree with this),
but Janette does not apparently bite Nick that I can see. Afterwards
she goes to the door to the room and opens it, and LC enters. Nick
sits up more on his bed/couch or whatever it was and says, "Who are
you?" Janette says, "His name is LaCroix." LC says, "Hello,
Nicolas. We're going to be friends." He uses vampire speed to
move closer to the bed/couch and, eyes changed and fangs bared, adds,
"For a long...long time." But LC is still not within reach of Nick
so we don't see him bite him.

In second season's Near Death, we get more details. Again, we don't
see the actual biting of Nick. He is shown after being bitten
lying on a bed or something unconscious. During this time, Nick
has a near death experience, where he sees a door of light with a
black clad and veiled woman in it. She wants him to come into the
light and Nick asks essentially what's in it for him if he does.
She won't explain and Nick says that LC has offered him endless
nights. Also, during this scene we hear LC's voice calling Nick to
come away from the light and back to him. Flashing back to LC and
Janette, Janette worries that he won't come back saying, "Oh, I
want him." (which has led to speculation that LC brought Nick over
for Janette). But LC is sure he will and Nick does. He comes
back to himself sucking blood from LC's wrist. LC pulls his wrist
away and Nick's next action is to get Janette in a lip lock. ;)
And, ah, that sheer white nightie Nick has on! Drool! ;9 (Sorry,
Knightie lust attack. ;) )

--Sandra Gray, forever Knightie
--tmp_harkins@d.......

PS.--Janette makes much in DBTLOTM about how "the darkness was
always there" in Nick and "Only darkness can satisfy you." and how
Nick was a "Brave knight. Good, strong, defender of the cross."
So, although it's not strictly said, LC may have just thought it
would be cool to corrupt a Crusader knight.

In "Dance by the Light of the Moon" Nick is apparently at some kind of
celebration after returning from a crusade. Janette, one of the women
there, goes to him and entices him, asking him how much does he want her.
Well, I'm assuming it's pobably been a bit since he's - er - been with a
woman and Nick practically jumps on her right there. But she leads him to a
back room, talking about accepting the darkness if he wants her, etc. Then
she climbs on top of him and things get a little progessively hotter.
Afterwards, LC enters the room, and offers his gift. I am supposing (after
seeing Near Death) that Janette took a very strong liking to him and you
know LC and his children....

Dear Karen,

Simply put, FKSPOILR is very much like FORKNI-L, except that we discuss
eps under "spoiler protection", that is, eps that all listmembers may not
have seen. This allows those who want it the joy of experiencing something
for the first time, be it the ending of the ep, Nightcrawler's monologue(s),
Fred's score, or whatever.

Speculation on the final four eps of this season (I will NOT call them
the "final eps"!) is also limited to the spoiler list. There has been a LOT
of this, especially as regards Last Knight, the season finale, as the number
of eps under spoiler protection dwindle.

page, ALL HAIL THE MIGHTY WEBGODDESS :), they noticed that one of
the SOS-FK people was in Connecticut and decided to look me up and
give me a call. They used my interview for the FK section of the
article. Of course, they didn't get all the facts right, but this
is a newspaper, so what can you expect. I have a copy of the
article already, so if anyone wants me to, I'll type in the text of
that portion of the article and send it to you. Or, if anyone
would rather have a hard copy of it, let me know and I'll make
xerox copies and mail it to you.

Later all :)

That section can be omitted. For some reason every browser I have access
to inserts something like it (rarely the same thing twice but always heavy
on the @@'s) whenever you do the rest, so if you're copying it from the
screen it will look like it. And it will accept it if you type it in.
But you don't seem to have to.

I'm in the health food store looking at pictures of people's pets on
the picture board. A picture of three dogs, with attached names,
catches my eye. The name of one of them?

Vaquero.

Makes ya wonder... <grin> I think, though, I remember the picture
being there before the Vaquero faction was formed. Still an
interesting coincidence, eh?

Well, there are *some* reasons to reread a book, even if you know it
well. :-) While I don't have total recall, I do remember what I read
*pretty* well, depending on how comprehensible I found it, and how
interested I was. (At least one listmember, who has been forced to sit
through my recitation of the weird characters in the middle of the People
Poll URL, has direct evidence of this.) And, even with books that I *do*
know well enough to recite, rereading can be a glorious thing. (And it's
not like Nick avoids going over the same experience again, and again, and
again....)

OTOH, I suppose that once you'd read the best, and much of the second- and
third-best that any genre you liked had to offer, the sort of stuff that
most of us will settle for would be less than enticing.

In any event, while I cannot imagine a life without books (despite having
been deprived of the ability to read for a few years due to an increase in
disability-related symptoms) and other text input, I do know plenty of
people who read little if ever, but whose depth and intellectual capacity
I admire. They tend to take material from other sources and use it much
as I (try to) use books.

So I could imagine an 800-year-old who read at one time, and then turned
away from the habit. I could also imagine an 800-year-old who *never*
read for pleasure, but who learned in other ways.

So is anyone going to put a copy of this on the list? I'd love to read it.
However, I do live in Oklahoma (yes, there is intelligent life in Oklahoma),
we don't get newspapers here from CT (no, I don't think anyone here know for
sure just where CT is). Did I mention that there is intelligent life in OK?

Anyone know what shift Nick works? My guess would have to be no earlier
than 8pm. With daylight savings he would end up by having to go to work
while it was still mid-day almost. And he'd only be able to work til 4a.m.
give or take a few, because of the sunrise. Just wondering if there was
ever an ep. that mentioned "when" he started his shift. (probably a dumb

I just went and voted 4 times for the FK gang. 1st they told me that "many
people" agreed with my assessment of GWD (12%). On my next vote, it was up
to 15% and by my 3rd, I was unique with no one agreeing with me!! Go figure.
But on the ratings, they stand at:
GWD- 5th
Catherine Disher- 7th
Nigel Bennett- 9th, the same rank as Dean Cain! Not bad, Nigel

Yeah, that's why I have been writing all day, just to get my own messages.
So I "know" there isn't a problem with my e-mail or anything. Guess with
all the repeats on the show there isn't much to talk about.
