In the infamous popcorn throwing scene, I sat there and -stared-. Nat told
Nick to forget anything she ever said about him being human, since he was
laughing at her for crying over King Kong. Third season Nick wouldn't have
laughed at that...he'd have spiraled into a hopeless depression.

Not that I have any say, because I *don't* want Nick and LC together any
more than cannot be avoided, but I'm still pulling for "Prodigals,"
because it conveys something about the *nature of the relationship.*

> I didn't say anything before, but I do like "The Seducers"

This is very good, imho.
On the other hand, I've never really appreciated LC's relationship with
Janette. It is even more proprietary than his relationship with Nick. I
don't like the way he touches her, and, with one notable exception, I've
never liked the way he speaks to her. He takes Janette too much for
granted, and doesn't respect her even as much as he respects Nick, who
has had the gall to resist him. This is probably due, in part, to the
weight of two-thousand years of his experience of cultures oppressing
their women... but that's no excuse.

I just took a look at the Sci-Fi channel's schedulebot, and I am confused
(which, come to think of it, is my normal state of mind). I had thought
from various postings here on the list, and in the newsgroups, that
they were going to show the pilot episodes before they started with the
final 3rd season eps (an incredibly *bad* choice, IMNSHO), but apparently
not. So, when? Don't want to miss the pilots!

re: LAST EPISODE SPOILER.
If this is in any way correct, I may vamp out on a few writers, and
I'm a vegetarian! How DARE they do this? Are TPTB so dead set against
FK that they want to eliminate even the possibility of continuance?
WHY? ARRRRRGGGGGGHHHHH!!!!!

Point. :) I keep forgetting Serena... :) Anybody want to copy BB? :)
However, if Nick is capable of bringing people across successfully, then
so must be Janette. However, she has never brought anyone across. In
IWR, she gives Nick two reasons. 1) She's just not the mothering type.
That, I think, can be conclusively refuted, by the very nature of the
Raven and by FF, not to mention ykw. 2) She's too much of a glutton.
So, do we buy that? Is that the reason Janette has no children?

We didn't get "Fever" here, we got "Sons of Belial". And this week, it was
"Strings".

Has anybody watching on syndication actually *seen* "Fever" a second time? I

Although I don't think that Nick is neccesarily a wimp, but, I am sick of
the excuse "Its the way they were treated as a child". Nick is far from
being a fledgling now, he is an adult and an adult vampire. He could have
snipped the apron strings with LC, long ago. Yes, I know that he has tried
to get away from him on occasion, but right now I think what we are seeing
is them coming to an understanding with one another. I also think that this
is responsible for his disagreements with Nat. He no longer needs Nat as a
"crutch". He has experienced many losses in the past year and he has
survived them. I think that LC has come to realize this too and is allowing
him to stand on his own. Nick is realizing though that it isn't really a bad
thing to want to have one's parents around. Its a natural cycle of events,
even in humans. And just as many have detested an overbearing mother-in-law,
Nat resents LC's hold on Nick. But this season we have seen LC come to
Nick's aid and Nat has had to except it, just as we have seen Nat comes to
Nick's and LC has had to take the backseat. Each of them are starting to
realize that there is no sense fighting over him, he really isn't theirs to
fight over and I think that he has made this more apparent to both of them.

For me, Nick's biggest dilemma is the fact that (I think) he enjoys being a
vampire. He gets a kick out of it and he likes the powers that come along as
perks. He's a better cop for them and he has saved quite a few humans with
their usage. But still, he wants his mortality, or, does he? It would mean
the loss of the perks. It would be harder for him to redeem himself without
them. So long as he is ingesting cow blood, he has no guilt. Sure, he can't
"have" Nat, but thats a neccesary sacrifice right now.

We went over this in such detail that Katja posted the transcript of the
missing CAN scene from IWR. Some kind person described her nice,
explanatory fanfic piece that I forgot to save the post for so that I
could look it up. (Hello?) Her explanation, which I wholeheartedly
endorse, was that LC had to pull "glutton" Janette off the Baroness and
finish the job himself, to keep her from killing the Baroness entirely.

Basically what I meant to say was that if you don't like Kindred based upon
it's own merits That's fine with me. But to consistently compare it with
another show, FK or not, it completely unfair. Ie...I don't compare the
original Star Trek (cancelled due to poor ratings) with Next Generation.
They are NOT the same show and therefor there is no reason to compare them.
I just don't see any reason for comparing Kindred with FK or even say, Dark
Shadows, or Dracula: The Series. That's sort of like saying your work
isn't any good because your sister made a better grade than you. I didn't
judge FK when I first saw it against The New Dark Shadows (which had already
been cancelled by then). If I had, I probably wouldn't have tuned in in
the first place. I have absolutely no problems watching and enjoying
*both* shows.
My god, what a novel idea, to give a vamp show other than FK a fighting
chance.
As far as all the Kindred bashing goes, I've heard the same things said
about FK on alt.vampyres etc...for the last two years. I didn't listen to
them either.

Um ... um ... um ... okay. For Bonnie. But I think I liked the sewer
scenes better.

> 3 "Outside the Lines" --(tough) --the "Phantom" banner outside the building

Nick outside the phonebooth while the baddie makes his call.

> 4 "Blackwing" -- (needs no defense) -- complex distribution of guilt

Nick in the morgue thinking he might have done it ...

> 5 "Blind Faith" -- wonderful guest actress

The dogs, of course. Otherwise UGH.

> 6 "MBIAV" -- Nat standing up for herself with Nick

She did? I thought she caved in horribly. Best thing about this
episode? Let me think on it ... okay, I've thought on it and am still
stumped. Sorry.

> 7 "HoD" -- Urs's origin

I've said this before: TEETH! Since I have a video clip of that scene,
I never have to put up with this one again either.

> 8 "Trophy Girl" -- flashback! "Intoxicating, wasn't she?"

This episode was the first truly good one of the season. Liked almost
all of it, and actually cared about Tracy for the first time.

> 9 "LNMTA" -- Nick likes the whole package just the way it is <g>

Nothing about this episode is worth watching again at all.

> 10 "Night in Question" -- (needs no defense!) -- dream sequence

The parade warehouse.

> 11 "Sons of Belial" -- (needs no defense!) -- scene in the Raven

Needs no defense.

> 12 "Strings" -- flashback: "And you are under...?"

The opening murder scene with the cuts of the manikins.

> 13 "Fever" -- (needs no defense!) -- Nightcrawler's monologue, natch

Needs no defense. "Stay out of the sun, stay away from sharp sticks ..."

In any other place I'd say you were right, but since this is the FK list,
the only reason to say anything about the Kindred "HERE" is to compare it to
FK. I agree with you, you can like both shows or any other vampire show or
movie without comparing it to FK, it just doesn't belong here on this list.
That is all any of us are saying. Love the Kindred, that's fine, but don't
talk about it on the FK list UNLESS you are comparing it to something FK. I
love Interview and Anne Rice, I love a lot of vampire related things but I
don't write about them here unless it has something to do with FK.

So, let's get beyond this now and have fun - Jamie our listleader has spoken
about this anyway so there's nothing more that needs to be said beyond what
she said. Now - let's party!!

Did you ever get a response to this? I had saved the message because I
remembered the story - then forgot to look it up. Was cleaning out some stuff
and found your note again and did look it up: "The Call" (2 parts) by Patrick
Kortner Aiex, the Lone Nanette email - paiex@i........ Hope this helps -
I think Tippi will like it.

I have it on disk and don't know how to upload so maybe it's in the
archives or Patrick can send it.

I know that it has been sometime since this was posted. However, I was
behind in my mail and thought someone else would answer. There is a Forever
Knight watching family I know who are actually a "Neilson Family". When
asked about this, they told me that Neilson always identifies themselves up
front when they call. My feeling on this is someone was playing a joke on
you. I may be wrong, but kids often like to do stuff like this. Remember
Prince Phillip in the can anyone?

Since I've decieded to actually post, a few other things. To the perks, my
only problem with Tracy is the writers leaving that chip on her shoulder.
In BB I could understand. She felt she had to prove herself. By NiQ, she
has a partner who accepts her, and a boss who compliments her. Why then
does she feel she still has to go running off to catch the bad guy all by
herself without letting anyone know. Also, I feel she should find out about
Nick. IMO it's rather silly for her to know about vamps without knowing
about Nick.

One last thing. I do not think Kindred had anything to do with FK being
cancelled. Look at KF's history. After the pilot, it was some time before
the series aired. Then it was cancelled, and had to be brought back after a
year or so passed. Then after second season they thought about cancelling
again with a long break before new eps. were filmed. What Kindred does have
that FK didn't is a known and sucessful producer who has major backing.
This enables him to get prime time and an advertising budget. I rather
thought it has promise. I like very few show when they first start, but as
the actors grow into there roles often the show improves.

Subject: St. Louis folks?

I think this next week's episode is Fever. I showed two episodes of FK
to my friend who is visiting from England, who has been hearing about
the show for a couple of years (not just from me). I showed him AMPH
and then last night we just happened to catch Strings. he doesn'twatch
tv at all, so the positive comments he made (I can see why you really
enjoy this show) just about floored me. He put down his book to watch
strings, too.
Anyway, does anyone on list know when the show airs in St. Louis?
there is an egyptological conference there next weekend, and I will
be there along with folks who might be interested in seeing the episode
if the timing is right. Please let me know if anyone does have the
information. Thanks.

Well.... yes. She did. And she didn't even get kissed for it.
But BEFORE she caved in horribly, she temporarily stood up for herself.
