Subject: That Other Show

Before I go any further, it may be that I answered far too strongly on a
message regarding someone (Candy I believe her name is) complaining that we
here on the list are complaining about the fact that FK is a better show
than Kindred and feel cheated that our show has been cancelled and theirs is
on.

I think I became unglued because I felt offended because it appeared we were
being accused of disliking the show simply because FK had been cancelled, as
if we didn't have enough sense to like or dislike the show on it's own
merits, and because the complaint came on a list that is for FK alone anyway.

I don't mean to offend anyone, but I don't like to feel my intelligence (or
anyone else on this list) is being questioned. I do not believe for one
second that any of us who dislike the show would love it if FK was still on
the air. I do believe more of us would have watched it if that were the
case, but those of us who did and still did not like it would not have liked
it even if FK was on the air.

I don't really want to keep discussing Kindred here, I don't think this is
the place for it. Several other members of this list have mentioned that and
others immediately delete the messages that have it in the subject. Can't
we just drop it now? We know most of us didn't like it, that some of us did
and that's fine. There is no ongoing discussion of IWTV here, and there
shouldn't be one for The Kindred unless specific comparisons are being made
and I think all of those have already been done.

Besides, it's causing all kinds of animosity here and we don't need that.
We've had quite enough of it lately and it's making us all crazy. We have a
common love for FK here, and each other, let's go back to that.

Again, I apologize for any hurt or animosity I may have caused.

Anyone remember that bit of song that goes "No one sucks like Vachon,
scorns big bucks like Vachon," (no flaming, just quoting, so all you
Vacheros with sharp objects, please calm down). What ever happened to
that? The last I heard, someone was trying to compose lyrics to the rest
of the song (which is based on Disney's Beauty and the Beast, in case
anyone's vaguely curious).

By the way, kudos to Kimberley, author of "Temper, Temper." My roommate
is a big hockey fan, and all it took to bring them over was to get them
to read this story. Now she's absolutely hooked. Now if I can just get
her to subscribe to the list <veg>. . . .

Over on rec.arts.sf.tv a person posted national syndicated ratings
for the week ending 3/17/96. FK was at 53! This is up quite a bit
from the last one of these I saw (where FK was something like 72).
I don't recall if there was a new ep in that week ending 3/17. But
perhaps this improvement is why we've been hearing that Sony might
be regretting cancelling the show? For comparison, Highlander was
36, Babylon 5 was 47 and Kung Fu was 55. And these shows are
continuing, I think.

        3) How did Vachon know that the hand he picked up was *his* hand?
And how did he re-attach it?

        4) What is the Budda woman's ( on the ship ) name? I can't tell.

        5) If you're in a plane, and it is crashing, what would happen if
you jumped up as high as you can, right as the plane hit the ground?

        6) How did they repair Reese's office so fast?

YES! It's short notice, but it's YOU who makes it a party!

Denise Underwood has consented to lending her hotel room at SyndiCon for
a Forever Knight get-together this Friday evening, April 12th. Denise is
staying at the Cathedral Hill Hotel, at 1100 Van Ness, between Geary and
Post Streets.

I'll be handling the details, so please email me for info, directions,
and for volunteering to bring food, beverages, watchables, or other
goodies.

We'll have videos to watch, things to throw at the TV, "transfusions" for
all, a card to sign for Nigel Bennett, and, if all goes well, a possible
live-link to either an America Online Forever Knight chatroom or a Forever
Knight IRC channel.

Don't feel that you have to attend SyndiCon to come to the party. If you
can get to San Francisco this Friday night, then get yourself on over, and
let's meet each other. come early, come late, but COME! You don't want to

brought Nick over for Janette. I was thinking about this and thought it a
little odd. If Janette wanted a new plaything couldn't she bring Nick over

why did LaCroix make the comment about Nick asking him for immortality in
one of the recent episodes? Curiouser and Curiouser.

It'd be even worse for you. The problem with the crash is that you have
a great deal of downward momentum that is stopped in an extremely short
period of time. If you were to jump at that moment, you have to ADD to the
force on your body.

For that reason, a fall from a great height is actually WORSE if you
bounce.

Techinically, yes, according to previously known vampyric physics concerning
a vamp his age. However, this is USA vampyric physics. Reality need not
apply.

Nope. H.G. Wells could'a had a field day with her. The Invisible Woman...

As far as we know, it was the only one his size. LaCroix's Special Formula

The miracle of television, not to mention stage crews.

Probably both, although I doubt Nick would have to worry much about the latter.

ObFK: You know you've been watching too much FK when, while watching Attack
of the Killer Tomatoes, during the scene where all the kamikaze tomatoes are
hitting the car, all you can think of is Uncle yelling "FOOD FIGHT!!!!!!"

Thank you, thank you. 19 hours, 7 minutes, and counting...

Subject: Re: Nick's First night

The was I took Nick's "conversion" was that Jeanette seduced him, got him
alone for Lacroix. It reminds me of a con game where the first partner
sets the victim up for the second partner's pitch. A friend and I
believe that Lacroix went after Nick because Nick was a crusading
knight. Here was a chivarous knight just back from the Holy Wars. If he
could be seduced in becoming a vampire, what a coo for Lacroix. It would
also validate Lacroix's existence. If a man with a "holy" purpose could
fall, then Lacroix, the "pagan" had less reason to doubt or wonder at his
existence. It is like how Lacroix denies the existence of God so
vehemintly in the exorcism episode. To admit that there is even the
slightest chance of a god or superior being would admit that he is lost
and doomed and that his life is meaningless.
I also think that Nick may have chosen to be a vampire in that night.
He was falling for Janette. Perhaps she "vamped" him out to helped with
the seduction. He had also come back from the Crusades, where he had
doubtlessly witnessed torturs, cruelties, and death. Given a chance to
spend a young, healthy, forever lifetime with Janette and other women
could have easily been alluring. He probably didn't think it through
very clearly. It's sort of like buyer's remorse or the morning after.
Imagine waking up the next morning with Lacroix staring down at you,
fangs and all. Julie

If he were sitting on top of the music box, possibly, but he was way back
in the main part of the plane, where people died of injuries caused by a
plane falling apart, not the explosion directly. Hence, Vachon lived.

> 2) Have we ever seen Myra before this ep?

Nope.

> 3) How did Vachon know that the hand he picked up was *his* hand?
> And how did he re-attach it?

Well, either his body would reject somebody else's hand, or it wouldn't.
If it would, then he would know (if he couldn't tell just by looking at
it) by attaching it and seeing what happened. There couldn't have been
too very many severed hands lying around, so I'm sure he didn't have to
look real hard.

I'm assuming he just stuck it on his wrist, and let that dandy healing
factor do the rest.

> 4) What is the Budda woman's ( on the ship ) name? I can't tell.

I do know this, I really do. I even wrote it down at some point. But
now I can't remember.

> 5) If you're in a plane, and it is crashing, what would happen if
> you jumped up as high as you can, right as the plane hit the ground?

You'd hit the ceiling <g>, and fly backwards like a shot, as far as the
plane is concerned. Someone watching you from the ground outside would
see you standing still (well, more or less), as far as they were
concerned, if that's what you're fishing for. But, to a first order
approximation (you're already regretting you asked, aren't you?) ;), if
you leap up in the air, you hit the back of the plane as fast as the
plane is hitting the ground. That's why stewardesses don't tell everyone
to take off their seatbelts and jump up in the air... planes are ever so
much more sturdy than we are, when it comes to that.

You're now leaving the Wonderful World of Special Relativity. The line
forms to the left, no pushing or screaming, please.

> 6) How did they repair Reese's office so fast?

The anti-termites. Honest.

Ummm... I think they already had urinal deodorizers, and Reese was just
commenting. But I'm pretty sure they did have both.

> 8) Why does Tracy get a few days off? She didn't know anyone who
died.

Because the entire point of pairing her with Nick is that he would be
there to wipe her bottom when she cried. So if Nick gets time off, so
does she.

A Friendly Note of Caution to Anyone Visiting Caltech: Anyone caught
singing, playing, humming, or whispering this song will be instantly
attacked by any and all undergraduate bystanders and tossed into the

Subject: LaCroix's History

Because I cannot write (I have ideas but they just don't transfer to paper
well - so I act instead) I'm asking all of you wonderfully talented writers
out there (particularly those with cousinly tendencies) if you ever
considered writing a story about LaCroix's relationship with his father? I
just rewatched Dead Air and the flashback deals with LaCroix's slowly
killing the victim who is a look alike for his dead father. At one point
LaCroix taunts him by saying "Say I love you, Oedipus", etc. That says so
much to me about LaCroix's problems with letting Nick go as well. This
seems such fertile writing ground...but I don't have the talent to do it.
Anyone out there interested???
