Subject: Apologies to everyone everywhere

This is what happens when you don't proof read your posts 10 times before you
send them! I'm on digest so I just read my post on when Nigel was born, and
went "Doh!!!!!"

On Sat, 30 Mar 1996 00:53:55 -0500 *I* wrote;
>>He was born on 11-19-96 so that would mean he's about 46, correct?<<

Correct? Not bloody likely is it?! And the correct date is---11-19-49!

Well that was my first simple mistake, understandable. But it's been
correctly brought to my attention that I may have inadvertantly offended some
people with my comment on, and I quote myself;
>>But, if that was the case originally, LaCroix decided that Nick was more
fun to teach, pester, hunt humans with, etc., than he had originally thought,
and took him from her. Indian Giver!!:)<<

I didn't realize that the mentioning of someone being an "Indian Giver" was
very possibly a serious cultural slur. I myself have never thought of it
that way, because I've never heard it in a really negative context, only as
an interesting historical phrase (which, now that I really think about it,
was probably meant to be a serious cultural slur of the time. Oh my, what
have I done?) In fact I haven't heard it at all in many years, and it just
sprang to mind to fit the occasion. Just to very quickly set the record
straight, I truly do admire the Native American culture (more so than my own
actually) and would never want anyone to think otherwise.

OK, enough of that, and sorry to one and all, but it had to be said.

Subject: Janette/LaCroix faction

OK, I don't know if the NK/LC faction name debate will ever be solved (I
rather liked Prodigals myself) but since someone asked a bit back about names
for a Janette/LC faction, and since I thought "Hey what a great idea, I want
to join," I figured I should try to think of a few possibles myself. Of
course I'm nothing if not uncreative so I'd love to hear from the inspired
out there who are good at this. My idea is that it should be something that
goes well with both erotic and platonic viewpoints:

Vindictives -(given LC and Janette's shared belief in the need for revenge)
Saviours -(Referring to LC's actions in A Fate Worse than Death, and
Janette's general good nature to strays)
Cousettes or Cousinettes -(Cousin+Ravenette)
The Talon and Fang Gang
Ebony and Ivories -(Janette and 1st season LC only:)
Pre-Brickolites -(for their years together before Nick)
RavenOwners or RavenRunners
Eternal Hunters (another sport enjoyed by both)

More nutty thoughts included the bird theme, Janette=Raven, LaCroix= a
vulture (as Nick has called him, and which he tends to act like on
battlefields everywhere!), which led to some truly awful names like:
Carrion Comforters (partly inspired by Dan Simmons:)

And from out of my thesaurus;
Les Bons Vivants*- (because LaCroix and Janette knew how to live the good
life) *French agreement probably incorrect

This faction is designed for those of you who adore that scene in Human
Factor with Janette and LC at the bar, and wish there could be more like it.
It's for those who see revenge as a dish best served with two fang marks in
the neck. For those who believe life would have been great for the two of
them if only they'd never found Nick! For those who feel that Janette should
have someone who enjoys what he is, and who has a wealth of experience to
prove it. For those who feel that LaCroix should have quit while he was
ahead, and been satisfied with just a daughter. For those who feel that
eternity is the only way to go, and that even large changes can still be made
the same, (see Human Factor and spoilers!)

Join the faction boom of '96! Help name this faction!!

Cousin Diane (wishing she could come up with gems like
LaCroissants for her own faction!)

Greetings

I just watched the first season episode "Fatal mistake", the one where
Stonetree shoots a kid.

I'm sure the scene where Alexander is laid up for viewing is the same
one used in the Dracula:The series episodes. Does anyone else agree? Am
I right or just hallucinating?

I don't think that the "Hand" that worked its way into the list was the one
that Vachon was missing in B.B. I don't know for some strange reason that
doesn't seem too scary to me, and the whole point was teaming up something
with the Blue Meanies and LC to do some evil deeds.

I guess the only thing left to clear up is which "Hand" it is. The one from
Yellow Submarine or The Addams Family.

When I said NK fell from the equiv. of 13th c. Sun. school, I was using
the example figuratively, not literally. ;) I was only trying to show
the distance of his fall -- and if anyone's been to Sunday school (like
I have, for many many years), you know you don't necessarily come out
angellic. Jus' lookit me! ;) I was trying to say that he didn't fall
from so great a height as heaven but that he, himself, viewed himself as
having fallen from grace. :)

Subject: more on carouches

Regarding Carouches:

I didn't think it was at all odd that Screed would call himself a
vampire in MBiaV. In Blind Faith Nick called Carouches "a lower form of
vampire" -- but they are vampires nonetheless. It's like, umm... Hold
on, anthrovamp is trying to think of an example. Okay here's one: a
lorus is a primate, but it's not as "evolved" toward humanhood as, say,
a chimpanzee. But a lorus could still call itself a primate. Actually,
if a lorus could talk well enough to call itself ANYthing, it'd be
pretty darn evolved. ;)

I still think that Carouches are those vamps made when another vamp
drains them but they don't get any blood in return. Which would mean
that Carouches existed before the 3rd season, but that we just didn't
have a name for them yet. (Continuity? We don't need no stinkin
continuity!) Why do I say this? In Blind Faith, we know that Perry bit
Jody, but there's no evidence that Jody bit Perry, or that Perry had the
cognitive process to open up his little doggie paw and place is over his
mistress's mouth. A lot has been said along the lines that what makes a
Carouche a Carouche is it's "first kill" or its first taste of blood
being an animal. Thus its preferrence for animal blood. But then NK
calls Carouches a "lower from of vampire", and I don't think he'd look
down on ANYone because they preferred to kill animals rather than
humans. See what I mean? He'd probably rather be a Carouche himself if
it meant having a preferrence for animals! I think most Carouches
prefer animal blood because they are either abandoned by their creators
and have to fend for themselves (and find animals) or because they are
in a situation where all they have are animals. We speculated that if
Screed was a sailor, he might have been brought across on a ship, where
his first kill was "a squealer".

Whew. Who knew there was so much to say about a lower form of vampires!

I think we aren't supposed to flame real people. Tracy's not a real
person, and actually neither are NK, LC, and NL -- or any character. As
far as I know, there's nothing against saying negative things about a
character. No one's flaming Lisa Ryder, who is a good enough actress to
get the job in the first place.

But if the consensus *is* that we shouldn't flame characters, then I
suggest we ban people from making any more q-tip referrences. ;) But
then you'd have to be so careful about what you say about anyone. There
are always going to be posts like "I can't believe Nick was so stupid!"
or "that LC is such a jerk!"

Am I wrong? Can someone fill us in?

I think that scene was a outtake. From what I heard Ger had put the fangs

I agree with Tip. Flames are not allowed for real people - we can't hurt a
character's feelings (as much as we'd like to believe otherwise) they are
not real. If someone feels so strongly about a character that they get hurt
if the character is flamed - Houston, we have a problem.

Please don't take that as a flame, we recently saw what happened between the
Nevermores and the Ravenettes but I think that was because of personal
flaming, not so much the discussion of the character. Since we are here to
have fun, and sometimes it is fun calling Nick a brick (even if I do love
him dearly). I think maybe the vehemence could be toned down a little, maybe
not so "Nasty"....Character or no, there's no reason to be soo nasty.

Does that make sense?

As I remember, those pledges were "if we succeed," not "if we get the
rest of 3rd season," so some of us who pledged multiple things
decided to do one (or more) when we got the rest of the third season,
"saving" the others for WHEN (yes, I'm still saying when!) we get a
fourth season. In that spirit, I HAVE stopped biting my nails. I've
also started working on the weight loss. Watching "Outside the Lines"
five times, however, is clearly too large a sacrifice for anything
less than a fourth season!

Naw, that wasn't me. That was Julie Randolph. <g>

Seriously: I tried quitting smoking, the last time I was in Toronto. It
lasted for twenty hours. I nearly assaulted two passersby just for the
heck of it, and then my head began to pound and my vision began to blur and
allllll the head-injury symptoms began happening to me, right there on
Queen Street... so I said to myself, 'this ain't happening', bought myself
a pack of cigarettes and went off to get myself tattooed.

It was a promise rashly made; I had forgotten, at the time, that nicotene
(in conjunction with caffeine) is one of the few things that keeps my
headaches from occurring.

However.....

Actually, this is a War-time promise. Susan will wash the Caddy in the
next War. (She has requested that this event take place in daylight, and
outdoors, so that certain would-be spectators will be unable to attend.)

So how about this: In the next War, when Susan is virtually washing the
virtual Caddy, I will virtually give up smoking.

How's that?

I was in fact informed by the originator of Hand that Hand is in fact from
Yellow Submarine.

However, I was under the opinion that this hand was actually called Glove.

Aha! An inconsistency! Something we Forever Knight fans are quite
experienced at dealing with!

I submit that the airplane explosion in Black Buddha actually created a
small tear in the space-time continuum for a fraction of a second, so that
Schanke and Cohen (believed dead) were actually sucked into an alternate
universe; and Vachon's hand, which was detached at that particular moment,
was for that nanosecond transformed into Hand, all-powerful, all-knowing,
and able to travel effortlessly through the tangled web of Space/Time -- so
that a second later, when it once more became a perfectly ordinary
vampire's hand lying twitching on the floor, the principle of Hand
(operating independently of its own reality) remained intact.

Looking for something to do with its immortal eternity, Hand cruised
through spaces and times and realities, picking up the odd job along the
way: therefore, Hand is Thing and Glove and all other five-fingered
manifestations of power and intelligence.

Works for me.

I just saw this episode last night (Saturday) and had a question for the
veterans of the list. While Nicolas is on the doctors table and is
possessed, is that GWD voice or was that dubbed? or a voice box used? It
gave me shivers!

Just curious!

I'd like to know, too. GWD seems to have a very wide vocal range - I
noticed that in the first season Nick generally had a deeper voice than he
has had this season (his normal speaking voice, not the 'vampire' voice).

I'm not talking about posts about how a character behaved in a certain episode
or posts about the character flaws of particular characters. I'm talking
about wholesale, harsh statements about a character that sound like a person
wishes a particular character weren't even on the show. We all have
characters we like
the best. For some of us there may be characters we don't like at all, and
really wish weren't there, but if that's the case, I wish peoples would keep
flames about those characters off the list. It just seems to me that Tracy has
gotten the brunt of this sort of thing. I'm certainly not objecting to posts
about her inability to put 2 + 2 together sometimes.

Umm..., I'm not sure that's what I mean. Different people do have
different styles of expressing themselves, and that's cool. One person's
"nastiness" may just be another person's sense of humor.
Tracy isn't my favorite character, and I'm not "hurt" that some people
don't like her, but I do like "Forever Knight" as a whole, and that includes
Tracy. Some of the postings about Tracy sound like people wish the character
weren't there at all. I guess people have the right to express their opinion
about this too. Somebody did it recently about Vachon, but Vachon has lots
of defenders.
I am just beginning to understand Tracy better, and, I think, to
understand her place in the show. But to go into that, I'd have to talk
about an ep still under Spoiler protection.

Flaming Tracy. Hmmm. Is that anything like a "Flaming Homer"? Are we
back on that FK drinks thread again?

Lessee, a flaming tracy...

1/2 creme de cacao
1/2 creme de noya (sp?)
Dash of Ribena

Add whipped cream and a maraschino cherry on top; stick a sparkler in it as
a stirrer and ignite. Serve chilled.

(Based, if memory serves, on the recipe for a Pink Squirrel.)

Oh, dear. That might have been me (I'm behind, so I'm not sure if
someone did it worse <sheepish grin>). I said that Vachon was clearly an
inadequate replacement for Janette, as he had to be accompanied by Urs
and Screed... I didn't mean that as a Vachon put-down, but as an
observation that, in an ideal world, Vachon and Tracy and their cohorts
would have been spun off into their own show by my fantasy version of BB,
in which Schanke was late getting to the airport, and Janette stayed...
(And no, JanetteZ, I am *not* here; I'm beta-reading. "You did not see
this post..." Amy intoned, in her best imitation of a whammy...<g>)

Ohhh I'm so angry--I just read this article in the local tv guide-type book.
"they" were the cover story..the article glorifying this new world of
vampires that's never been delved into before, this female vampire who
misses her humanity...and intrigued by the human policeman...aaarggg!!!

I could just spit! They're getting all this great press...I thought no one
was interested in vampire stories? Why did FK have such a hard time trying
to get some press? What is so different about "them" and FK that they get
all this great press and we practically had to beg to get any kind of
coverage for FK?

Grumble, grumble, grumble gnash, gnash!!

Actually, it's all in the press releases.

Theirs has a major Spelling error.
