Actually, I don't think there's any reason for controversy as far as whether
or not Janette brought across the Baroness. We all know FK is notorious for
not paying attention to other episodes - continuity is not a big problem
here. They simply didn't remember what was said before. That is the real
reason. Whatever you guys wanna decide for "our" reason is cool, but I
don't want to see another controvery jump up because the writer's were their
usual "duh" selves.

Hey gang!!

Help me with this. As I've said before I've only seen a few first and second
season eps (waiting for copies of said from a good buddy, thank you) but one
keeps hitting me and I can't remember which it was. Just the physical
reaction I had when I saw a certain scene. Nick was at the microphone at a
radio station - I believe it had something to do with a radio psychiatrist?
I just remember him opening his mouth and the sound that came out - oh man.
His radio voice pratically put my daughter thru puberty on the spot and I
won't discuss what it did to me.

What ep was that?

Subject: NK&LC -- Power, not anything else

I've been giving this whole Nick/LaCroix thing some thought and I think I've
figured out how I feel about it. (Now the question is how to express it
on a PG-13 list!)

No, it's not platonic. But it's not love, either.

Nick, with his 13th century morals, would be appalled at the thought of him
and LaCroix together. LaCroix, on the other hand, coming from a background
as an ancient Roman -- and a General, no less -- would find it perfectly
acceptable -- normal, in fact.

Nick is also LaCroix's creation, and that makes him his chattel, like it or
not. So if LC were to make ... um ... overtures towards Nick, there would
be nothing Nick could do about it, and therein lies the power of the act. I
mean, if your kid liked to be sent to his room, it's not much of a
punishment, is it?

So I guess I think of it as a sort of "child abuse" -- which we already
KNOW is going on.

Which brings up another point. Nick may not like it, but I suppose that
(if we carry this "father-son" analogy a little farther) it was a form
of attention that he put up with in an attempt to gain approval.

But let's note here for a moment that while the expression on LC's face may
be one of ... um ... enjoyment, Nick's not exactly thrilled. In fact, I
would hazard a guess that he is most likely, at that moment, dreading the
thought of how far things might go.

Let's note for a moment that we've never really seen much of this type of
behavior towards Jeanette (correct me if I'm wrong, please) and it's a pretty
safe bet that he loves her as much as he cares about Nick. I would not, by
any stretch of the imagination, begin to suggest that he wouldn't be interested,
but he doesn't have to exercise power over Jeanette. She's a good little
vampire, and doesn't need to be threatened back into line.

I agree with the thought that the blood is a sensual thing. Let's take
"Night in Question," for example. In the hospital, when LC is opening
his wrist for Nick, he looks downright ... um ... happy about it. When
Nick does the same for him, however, he looks like he'd rather be having
his fangs pulled out by the roots. (And in fact, uses it as leverage to
get away.)

In other words, it's just one more thing LC does because he knows it makes
Nick miserable.

It *was* Ger holding the dreaded oatmeal box. It's been a couple months
since I... errr... didn't see the tape I'm not supposed to see... but
err... Here's the scene as I don't remember it:

Lacroix lunges forward, all dressed in black with fangs bared, and
someone holds up *something* that brings NB to a DEAD halt. He reacts
as if it really IS a cross, but then immediately cracks up. The
prankster turns around, and it's Ger, and he shows the camera the
oatmeal box. NB then says something like "can we do that again?" It's
all very very very funny. I laughed till I cried.

Not that I ever saw it, mind you.

I think that in a thousand years, you kind of gloss things over - it's
not lying, exactly, just...vagueness. Besides, did she actually say she'd
never brought anyone across in so many words? I remember she said she
usually couldn't bring herself to stop until it was too late, and then
there was no one to apologise to.

RTC student gets 3 stars for TV-show home page

OK, here's the idea. There's this ruggedly handsome, 800-year-old vampire
named Nick Knight, and he feels really bad about all those people whose
blood he's drunk (with fatal consequences) over the years, so he becomes a
night cop in a big city and does one wonderful thing after another to try
to make up for eight centuries of misdeeds involving hemoglobin. Oh, yeah,
and he wants to become mortal, enjoy the sunshine, and die like everyone
else, and there's this good-looking female forensic pathologist who's
trying to help him out.

Want to know more? Check out Gaylin Walli's home page dedicated to the TV
show Forever Knight, http://www.hu.mtu.edu/~gjwalli/fktoc.html. Her site
was just awarded a Magellan three-star seal of approval by The McKinley
Group, a team of international publishers, technologists, and information
specialists that maintains a directory of 2 million Web sites and reviews
of 40,000. The page was judged on the basis of depth of content, ease of
exploration, and Net appeal. Cleanly written, with lots of chatty
information, it links to pictures and profiles the show's main characters,
as well as the official Forever Knight home page.

The McKinley Group found her site searching for the page devoted to the
vampire cop show, says Walli, a graduate student in rhetoric and technical
communication. She is one of many fans who were mobilized when they heard
of plans to cancel the show, forming an interest group rivaling the
National Rifle Association. They not only descended en masse on the
powers-that-be involved with Forever Knight, they helped star Geraint Win
Davies' pet charity and started their own (voluntary) blood drive.

The entire lobbying effort was organized via the Internet, Walli said, and
it was so well orchestrated that industry pundits described it as superior
even to the legendary efforts of Star Trek fans.

Does this transfusion of enthusiasm mean that Nick Knight will once again
rise at sunset, prowling the shadowy streets and hiding his dark secret
from a world that probably wouldn't understand?

Well, no, except on cable. Forever Knight did stay cancelled. But fans
managed to get one network to agree to show the entire series in
reruns--initially, it wasn't going to air the final episodes.

"I do feel bad about [the cancellation], but it's OK," Walli said. "We got
USA to show the last six episodes, we raised $8,000 for the Pediatric AIDS
Foundation, and we donated gallons and gallons of blood."

I'd always noticed consistency was not a big concern of the writers.
Someone suggested that the writers did whatever they needed to do for the
particular episode they were writing. I think that's true, and I think it's
because the themes of the show are as important as the story itself.
Dare I say it about a television show? I consider Forever Knight to
be a work of art. And like much literature, it doesn't have to be realistic.
They do what they need to do to get across what they want to get across.
So now, I'm wondering if some of the laxness with details (the Battle
of Hastings, for instance) is done on purpose. I started thinking this
reading about the popcorn scene. Apparently, they left something in that
didn't (to a lot of people) make much sense. Do they do it to remind us
that this _is_ a television show, and that there's something going on here
beyond the story itself?

I'm at a point where I wish I *could* belive in things like vampires...they'd
make life(unlife?) so much more interesting...unfortunately I'm much more of a

the undead and werewolves and so on. I'd be extremely grateful if anyone
could show me proof that they do exist, though...:>

I didn't think it was so great the first time around, but I just watched
it again, and it's super! Imagine the *fun* GWD and NB must have had
doing it, too.

Yep, you got it. It's the new, improved version of the Warm Fuzzies Page
<http://members.aol.com/immajer/warm/fuzzies.html>

The page should still be viewable from non-Netscape browsers (though I
haven't been able to check that yet; let me know if you encounter
problems...)

HOWEVER, if you're running Netscape 2.0, you will find the latest
new-and-improved features:

1) Snugglin' Fuzzies! (No, I'm not going to describe this. You'll have
to see it for yourself.)

2) The ability to netsurf to your favorite FK websites WHILE
SIMULTANEOUSLY viewing the Snugglin' Fuzzies on the upper frame of your
browser! (Note: This will definitely slow down the web-browsing process.
However, it's perfect for those end-of-season blues...)

Check it out. Let me know what you think. A convenient mailto link has
been provided for this purpose...

I was watching Due South last night (the one with Fraser in drag) and
Michele Scarbelli guested as Nun teacher at a private girls school. I have
seen her on plenty of other Canadian episodic shows (she played Jo Santini
on Airwolf opposite Ger). I was wondering (because my mind is a little
hazy on this) but did she ever do a guest appearance on FK. I can't
remember seeing her in any of the first season eps (that I've got taped).

er, heck out of your cats. In the midst of shaking my groove thang, I

"Forever, My Knight," and it's a historical romance. Not a Forever Knight

Could anyone interested in this argument about whether or not
Cousin Phoenix is a vampire take it to private e-mail with her. It

Thank you and sorry for wasting bandwidth.

Subject: Happy, cheery lists?/Re: Amending the distr.of EVIL....

First, I've recommended this list to _two_ people (one FK newbie and one
who has been watching FK since it was on CBS but just got on the 'Net) in
the past few days--we have gone off on a few weird tangents (too long since
a new ep!!), but this is still a _great_ list (I sent it in to the Newsweek
poll, too, although it was runner up behind DS-L). _Most_ of the time the
FK listmembers are able to debate and/or "tease" without venturing into
flammable territory--I don't think that's really changed.

Second, I _am_ going to _politely_ (I'm not Canadian, but my ancestors were
<g>) rebut some comments on one of my posts:

The Phoenix wrote:

>happens to have his own set of morals. In defence of this, I cite SoB.
>>LaCroix, if he were totally immoral wouldn't have cared whether Nicholas
>were possessed or not.

_My_ take on this is that poor old Lu didn't want _anyone else_ to have
control of Nick--he wants to keep him for himself.

> Another example: NIQ. As he put it, (I think this is right) "Quid pro quo,
>Nicholas. I always pay my debts." Nick saved his life, so he saved Nick's.

Same thing here--he doesn't want Nick to _die_ either--all told he doesn't
want to _lose_ Nick--he puts up with a lot of the stuff he does (Nat and
the search for a cure/redemption) 'cause he's learned by now his strong arm
tactics don't work, and he figures he's got all the time in the world to
wait, as long as Nick is still alive/undead (another reason he helped him
in SoB: If Nick had stayedd\ "out of control", the Enforcers would've come
after him & he would've lost him forever).

>The "rotten things" he does are more the result of the outlook he developed
>during his mortal life than being nasty because it's fun. LaCroix became
>used to power, and proved he could yield it well. This isn't immorality,
>it's a different view.

This is true, to an extent; I think a better way I could've stated my view
of LC is to say that he's evil 'cause he does evil things (whenever it's
expedient for him to do so) and gets a "peverse" joy out of them--I feel
like he was the _same_ when he was mortal, but now he has even _more_ power
and less fear of retribution. I also don't think the fact that LC is
immroal means he _never_ shows flashes of altruism (I think a lot of
complex emotions went into the restaurant scene in BMV and its unseen
aftermath), but I'd bet he'd look upon those acts as a sign of "weakness"
and probably try to rationalize them (ie: "if I kill Nicholas's little
mortal "pet", he might go off the deep end and take a walk in the sun, and
then I'd lose him forever), so that he still feels "powerful and without
regret".

>I don't mean this as a flame, just a debate.

Me neither--I actually had a newbie (from another list) ask me about the
characters and told her _I_ think LC is evil (she specifically asked
this!!), but some list members have a totally different opinion (I think
she'll agree with me 'though--she's showing signs of being a Nick&NatPacker
already <vbg>).

Now to see if my dratted _new_ ISP is accepting outgoing mail again <sigh>....

Natalie also made good use of her home modem connection to her office and
the Ontario Crimes files in the second seasion ep. "Undue Process". In UP,
Natalie is at home working on the case of her god-daughter's adbuction/
murder. She connects with the Police files and those at her office, to
come up with the perp's name and file. All the while telling Cohen on the
phone that she's just relaxing, and that she'll take a few days off. She
was taken off the case because it was her god-daughter's case. But Nat
being Nat, decided that she'd get involved anyway. "Undue Process" was the
ep. that Cath got the Gemini nomination for.
