Ribena at last! Okay, I didn't buy it, but I found it. I was perusing the British aisle(as opposed to the British isles), of the local Fiesta mart (a giant multi-ethnic super market not 3 blocks from my house), when lo and behold, there it was! RIBENA! I actually cried out, "RIBENA!", as if I'd just struck gold. Much to the amusement of the other shoppers, mind you. So if anyone's near a Fiesta, you can find Ribena for $4.29 (small size) and $5.99 (large). Guess what I'm bringing to the next FK party in Dallas! Not sure which episode it's from, but it's ALSO in the American version. It's on my CBS tapes - got the logo on the commercial breaks - and I'm in the USA. I have *NO* Canadian eps. I'd DEARLY LOVE them, however... <hint!> From June Russell: > how does Nick go to court to testify about what he found? Nat drove him - he was in the trunk - to the courthouse and parked in the underground (?) garage. She also arranged to have the blinds closed in the courtoom so he wouldn't be directly exposed. I think he also bought lots of varieties of sunscreens, and was asking Schanke his opinion on them, particularly the Pina Colada scented one. <grin> I don't know if the sunscreen was this ep or not, but I'm pretty sure it was. The tricky part is how he barely managed to cope with having to take the normal oath - putting his hand on the bible. Am I right in remembering smoke? Anyway, in the courtroom, someone does open one of the blinds, letting sun shine on the witness stand, and Nick starts getting really fidgety. I think it's at that point that he admits he's "lying" (well, he wasn't, really, but how can he explain that a mere cop beat an olympic-grade athelete's time, hmmm?) Spamming for FOREVER KNIGHT!! This is a busy little group -- my mailbox and my online meter are both overflowing. It's been suggested (hi, Margie -- and certainly you can quote me to Newsweek!) that I post my own answers to the questions on the list, so... What first attracted me to FK? "Fever." Yeah, really. It was not the first ep. I saw, but was the first one I paid close attention to. So don't doubt it -- 3rd season episodes _can_ hook new viewers. Why did "Fever" hook me? Because I'm a pushover for brooding anti-hero types; because this ep. posed a dire threat to the protagonist in a new and unusual way, was tightly written and used a poignant contemporary analogy (the AIDS crisis), all with a bitter-sweet tweak of irony at the end. ("So, the killer is the cure. Isn't that fascinating? His tainted blood will be our salvation.") What kept me watching? Character angst, conflict, good writing, accurate (well, OK, mostly) historical flashbacks, classical & literary references (find THAT in a U.S. produced series!), some genuinely beautiful metaphors-to-the-human-condition (we all have a darker side, etc.), and finally the fact that amidst all of that, this show still isn't afraid to have a little fun with the concept, too. Other vampire lore I enjoy: Bram Stoker, Richard Matheson, P.N. Elrod -- and the 60s TV series that hooked me on vampires to begin with: DARK SHADOWS. Those of you who've never seen DS might find the premise, er, interesting. It was about a vampire who wanted desperately to become human again, found a friend and ally in a woman doctor who tried to cure him and developed a romantic interest in him (tho he preferred to remain "just friends"), and about the "evil one" who first cursed him -- in this case a beautiful witch named Angelique -- who was doing her damnedest (literally) to make sure he remained a vampire. Sounds vaguely familiar, huh? If you have SciFi Channel, DS runs daily @ 8-9 a.m. PST/11-Noon EST. Thanks again for all the welcomes, answers, pointers to tape and zine sources, etc. 'Tis much appreciated! --Jean Graham JeanB7@a....... Youth is a gift of nature. (keyword: TV GOSSIP, double click on The Remote Control) Jon Cassar, who has been with the show since he was a camera operator for the very first episode, "Dark Knight", has directed the following episodes: Yr 1 - Dying for Fame (The first show in his directing career) Yr 2 - Faithful Followers - Can't Run Can't Hide - Curiouser & Curiouser Yr 3 - Outside the Lines - Dead of Night - Ashes to Ashes (will be shown second last ) Jon was also on the set during the very last day of shooting in February so he's been there from start to finish (at least this season, Marcia says optimistically!) The above listing of Jon's episodes is from Jon, so you can trust that they're accurate! Because there will be a lot of people in the room, I am asking all chatters to please IM me with questions that you have for Jon, which I will screen (for duplicates, etc.) and then type them to the screen for Jon to answer. This way he will not be bombarded! Thanks for your cooperation in advance! If you like (I would like!) please send questions to me at ScFiMarci before the chat! If you choose to do this, please put "CASSAR ?" in the subject header so I won't think your note is just another post to one of the mailing lists I belong to. I'll take questions up through Sunday night; after that, I may not have time to include them in my macros. Also, please DO NOT ASK FOR SPOILER INFORMATION. I think we're all aware that those connected to the show have been asked to keep quiet about what may or may not happen in the last episode, and we should not compromise Jon by asking about it. If he volunteers information about his "Ashes to Ashes" episode, fine. Jon will also be rejoining us on April 22 to talk specifically about the episode "Dead of Night" which is scheduled to rerun in syndication the weekend before. You might want to save specific questions about that episode for that night. He's really looking forward to joining us, by the way! ================================== Also, Fred Mollin and I are in the process of finalizing a date for his return to the chat - hopefully April 8 or 15. I've been sort of lurking on this list for a few months... but... something really and incredibly strange just happened... I stress... *really* weird... I still haven't decided if it was a prank or not... help? I know people were talking/asking about the workings of Nielsen a while back... I just got a phone call (from someone who knew my name) who asked me what I was doing tonight as if he was a friend... I couldn't place him, but couldn't tell for sure, so I just casually answered... I answered German homework ('cause that's what I was doing ;) ) and he proceeded to ask me why I was not watching Friends, and then go on for a while about commercials, and the cost of advertising on Friends because it was so popular... and to ask if I planned to watch Friends in the future... I said, no, probably not. He asked me some questions about German (he did not recognize course numbers, so he wasn't from my college) and then asked me what I did watch. As you might guess, I said the only show I really watch is Forever Knight. He asked me when that was on, and I told him. Then I asked him who the heck he was and why he was calling me (perhaps slightly more pleasant than that, but... ) He said, he was with the Nielsen ratings, and was doing a survey, etc... it sounded more like he may have been looking for times I watched, not programs... but... ? Does anyone have any theories on this? Like, does anyone know if this is something that Nielsen people actually do? How can I find out if it was legit? I didn't get a name or phone # or anything... <sigh> ... just weirdstuff. Wonder if it helped our cause any... I hope so... ? Also, on a much lighter note... If you think Zeus in rage is a frightening thing to behold, you haven't seen me in a bad list-mood, and I'm in the worst I've ever been in for the past 3 years. It's come to my attention from /numerous/ sources that certain listmembers cannot be bothered to remember that the lists are built on RESPECT of listmembers' beliefs. People have been swearing, calling each other names, and basically behaving like children. This WILL stop. Not: 'this has to stop.' It *WILL* stop. Enough is enough. In the past, I've let you lot basically do what you like, so long as you could be civil to one another, firmly believing everyone on the lists to be mature enough participate in one of the few civil discussion groups on the entire internet. Apparently, I was wrong. It's rather distressing to me, because I'm one of the younger members of the list, yet my elders act worse than I do. Have the lists outlived their usefulness? Are they too big and unwieldy now? You tell me. I certainly don't know anymore. Some folks seem to think that Jamie's part of the problem. So far, I haven't seen much evidence of her screwing up, but if she does, she freely admits it. I picked her cos I thought she'd do a good job, and from my perspective, she /is/ doing a good job. If I was doing everything she does for the lists, I'd certainly be a lot bitchier about admonishing listmembers than she has been, so you should be lucky she's handling a lot of stuff, rather than me doing it personally. I think she deserves a privately-emailed round of applause. She busts her ass for the FK fandom and for these lists, and doesn't deserve the crapola some people are handing to her. Let me be clear about this. Generally, I will almost always back up Jamie when she says something about list policy or admonishing an errant listmember about something. I didn't pick her so I could be spending all my time undercutting her. I picked her cos we have similar views on listowning, so I could trust her to do her job in a way that I'd do the job, had I time to do it myself. That doesn't mean I won't listen to complaints, if they're legitimate worries about allegations about listowner abuse. However, I won't listen to petty complaints cos Jamie was just doing her job. I hope we're all clear on that now. Now, as has /always/ been list policy, if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all! Delete that flame before you even hit the send command. I, too have a tendency to suck on cuts, but any exposure to/sight of blood gets me worked up in unexplainable ways. My canines actually extend up to about 1/3 inch, give or take 2 millimeters, but it's not an everyday thing. In addition, I have unexplainable aversion to sun or bright lights; I burn within 5 minutes, even on an overcast day despite the fact I'm not all that pale, and I have to wear sunglasses after dark sometimes because the light hurts my eyes. It's not strictly a headlight thing, either. I always wear them outside and sometimes inside during the day because it hurts too much otherwise. According to my doctors, my teeth and gums are relatively odd, if a little odd; I shouldn't have the aversion to light for any currently explained reasons (I've been all the way to the Mayo Clinic for this and other stuff); and I should be in much worse shape than I am due to some massive past infections and a weak immune system. This season we saw Vachon's origin and Urs's. Why didn't we get to see Screed's origin.? I know Vachon, Screed, and Urs are just secondary characters, but why show the origins of just two of them? IMO, I thougt it was pretty lame to kill off Screed before showing his origin. Anybody else agree? I hope it's okay to discuss this, and this isn't spoiler protected. If it is, then my apologies. There're still a lot of eps I haven't seen, but *lying* seems uncharacteristic for Janette. I'm considering attending, if I can find out when the Nigel Bennett events are scheduled. The weekend ticket price is a bit steep, but I'd spring for a one-day ticket, it I can get by with it. Here are a couple of things that've been in my thoughts about Syndi-Con: Is there anyone out there who knows s/he will be attending, and will be staying at the Cathedral Hill Hotel? I had so much fun when Marian Gibbons sponsored a night of rabid Forever Knight watching at Baycon. Is there anyone willing to host/co-host such a get-together? If we can use your hotel room for the event, I'll be happy to kick down part of the hotel room cost. I'll bring a VCR and most of this season's episodes. Perhaps others will bring previous seasons? Also, I live in San Francisco (Inner Sunset District), so if someone needs a place to crash, you're welcome to conk out on my fold-up futon in my spare bedroom. Mind you, I'm currently using that room mainly for storage, so "spare" is pretty accurate. Still, the rest of the house is well appointed, and the price is right. I have room for one person there, unless you don't mind the floor (B.Y.O.Sleeping bag). If a Forever Knight party is to ambitious on such short notice, how about a lunch or dinner get-together? Also, if anyone needs directions or advice about restaurants, sights and such in San Francisco, please email me. I drive a taxicab here, so I'm pretty familiar with the geography and history of San Francisco. -&&& Forever Knight has been cancelled.
