No. As I recall, he was totally covered from head to toe (with just his eyes
peeking out) which Schanke totally accepted because he knows Nick has an
"allergy to the sun" until he got into the courtroom. There was a scary
moment where the sun was beginning to streak to the witness box where he was
sitting and he had to keep shifting before it hit him. I think I remember a
funny line where the sun hit an open spot on Nick and he started to smoke a
few minutes before Schanke got into the car. Schanke asked him if he'd been
eating bar-b-que!! (giggle).

That may be true, Raissa, and I get the same impression. Let us not
forget, however, that the third season has brought across several new fans,
and it continues to impress my roommate (who doesn't like vampires at all,
but this is all he's seen of *Forever Knight*). Compared to average
television, third season *Forever Knight* _is_ highbrow.

Subject: Questions about Nick, and Nat

Hey all,
No, this ain't another post about Nick+Nat. It's a post about Nick, and
it's a post about Nat. I have a couple questions, the answers to which
are vitally important to the conclusion of Eternal Champion.

1. Is Nick at all computer literate? I think we've discussed that GWD
isn't exactly Bill Gates, but what about Nick?

2. Has a screen name ever been pegged for Nat? LC has "Rosebud".

3. Do we have any reason to believe that Nat knows the true identity of
"Rosebud"? In Trophy Girl she asks Nick if RB was anybody important.
Apparently, she didn't look at the paper herself.

Subject: Various

First of all, Fkfic-l has never had any limits that I know of on
characters, whether crossover or original to the author, and I'm an
ex-assistant listowner. We've had ghosts, an hereditary witch of a
fictitious variety (not to be confused with witch in the wiccan sense).
and a various immortals.

Now, oatmeal: in Canada, Nigel Bennett is well-known for a series
of commercials for Oatmeal Crisps cereal in which he plays a Scotsman
who protests, "But it's no' oatmeal!"

The popcorn scene began as a practical joke on Catherine Disher by Ger.
She didn't know her reaction was in the final cut until she saw the
show on the air.

There's an exchange earlier in False Witness that indicates that
normally Nick, as arresting officer, videotapes his testimony. The
problem this time is that he's also a material witness, because he
insists he saw the crime committed.

I've always wondered why Nat would have had to sabotage those blinds.
It's a matter of record that Nick is severely allergic to sunlight.
A word to the judge before the session, and they would have remained
closed.

The list name pronunciation varies. I call it "for -nigh -ell" because
it's an abbreviation of FORever KNIGHt.

So 40 is set in one's ways? I suppose I'd better go register for the
Old Crone's home, being 46 years of age. :)

I don't know what the differences are between the two versions, but in
the Canadian version, when Richard woke up, Nick told him about sunlight,
crosses, and garlic, and that it would take time for Richard to develop
control of his cravings, and that he would have to wait before seeing his
wife.

Then, like an idiot (a brick?), Nick went to work and left his newborn
alone in the apartment.

I didn't get the impression that the Enforcers had a beef with Nick aside
from expecting him to "take care" of the problem - they would if he
didn't. It was his job - he *was* the one caught flying.

If you mean the flashback, in which LaCroix was photographed, Nick was
trying to take care of the problem in order to save the photographer,
because if he didn't (and as it turned out) the photographer would be killed.

I think it's just an association with the imagery of the vampire
(frequently as a bat) seen flying across the full moon.

That's Killer Instinct, the second season opener, which was great! I was

of this one.

Thank you so much - this is really important. When I first subscribed, I
looked around for a FAQ, and a kind person sent me one, but it was
really, really long - it was very hard to find the basics in it. The four

completely new to me (I've been on bitnet and internet mailing lists for

The wife and daughter were kidnapped because the husband/father wanted them
dead, and arranged the kidnapping/murder. The wife and daughter had been
giving him a hard time about skimming money from the charity, and he
evidently had a history of violent behavior, according to the psychic.

>3) Unreality TV-- Why did the enforcers have a beef with Nick? He wasn't the

I think LaCroix had some sort of pull with the Enforcers -- I guess he told
them that he'd made Nick responsible for dealing with the photographer, and
for some reason they accepted that.

It's a TV thing. The moon is always full on TV (and usually in movies),
unless they're actually using it to mark passage of time.

That's Killer Instinct, the second season opener.

Actually, Dotti is mixing up two episodes here. The scene in False
Witness happens in the Courtroom. The scene she's describing above
happens in Dying for Fame when the night shift is called in during the
day to handle crowd control and Nick bundles himself up to go out into
the sunshine.

Dying for Fame is also the episode with the Grateful Dead reference, as
well as the line "What time is it, what day is it, what century is it"
which is what my windows say when I open up my computer in the morning.

Okay, I'm either gonna get flamed or called a total looney for this, but
here goes.

Vampyres DO exist. I have known them, and, to a degree, am one. There's
such thing as a partial vamp, created by genetics or a partial embrace (too
hard to explain). I have a close friend who is half-vamp, genetically, and
which is strengthened by past vampyric exposure. I'm 2/3, but a starver
(little to no blood intake), so it doesn't show as much as it could. He's
an occasional starver. I really haven't known any full vamps.

I've also known aliens (humanoid), werecreatures of assorted types, fey,
mages, and deities (avatars and embodiments). Probably some others too, but
don't know exactly what they are.

I'm not kidding about this, and know many people who either know the same
people/sundry beings I do or have had enough similar experiences to believe.
I'm a science major too, so I have to see proof. Once you've watched
someone's eyes glow and their canines elongate (especially your own), you
believe.

In the episode in question (False Witness) Nick *does* go to court during
the day. He wears some sort of spf 50000 sunblock (purchased from Myra!
Nat: "Do you smell - coconut?"), Natalie drives the caddie with Nick in
the trunk into the underground parking garage. Nat has scoped out the
route to the courtroom beforehand and 'fixed' the blinds so they can't be
opened, but somebody gets them open anyways, so while Nick is testifying a
little ray of sunlight is getting closer and closer and closer...but Nick
finishes up in time! (of course).

The other thing is that his hand starts smoking a little when he places
it (gingerly) on the Bible to swear the oath.

Well, if it didn't work nothing would change, if it worked (i.e. made him
less anguished) then good, if it did something else Nat would stop. Besides,
even if Nick found out, who could he tell? :)

Which, if you know the background, brings up a lovely image of LaCroix in a
kilt, trying desperately to eat a bowl of glutinous mush flavored liberally
with Ribena. Which brings up the eternal question: does he wear it in
traditional style, or with a thong?

It is from "Curiouser and Curiouser", in that wonderful scene where LC is
profiled against a bright blue backgroud instead of the usual dark recording
booth, thereby capturing the stunning brilliance of his hypnotic, seductive
and very, very blue eyes, and at the end of the monologue the camera is
focused closely on his lips which can only be described as.....ahem...well
you get the picture. I can see why NB won the Gemini for that ep.

Well I guess you could say the "uproar" is over the varied interpretations of
what exactly their relationship is. I agree that NK and LC's relationship is
not "wrong" even if I did see it as something more than platonic. But I
don't. In fact, thinking of the two of them in a sexual relationship as has
been suggested gives me the willies. And NOT because it is two men! (don't
want any flames-Im not a homophobe!) As someone mentioned before, LC is very
erotic toward everything, including inanimate objects! He oozes sexual
energy. Even when he's just sitting at the bar, not saying a word. So, to
me, wiping the blood off of Nick's chin, was just a simple gesture with no
hidden meaning. It seemed erotic because LC is an erotic guy! (not to
mention vampires in general) Was it a sexual advance on Nick? I didn't
see it that way. I think he was pissed because Nick stole his dinner! My
husband gets the same way when I eat the last of the
Rocky Road ice cream. Also, I guess I didn't explain my "incest" post very
well. I didn't mean it literally, as they are obviously not related. I
meant that I see their relationship as being like father/son and the thought
of anything sexual between them makes me think "ick" just as incest makes me
think-"ick". But that is totally my opinion and I don't think the other
opinions that have been expressed about this are wrong at all. I think it is
interesting how many different ways we all interpret this.

Okay, ANOTHER schedule change. If the tentative schedule posted earlier
(thank you, Paula, thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyou...) is correct,
the party's now May 18, beginning at sunset. I don't know whether to laugh
or combust over all the confusion (suggestions would be helpful ;) ). But,
for the moment, assume the 18th.

As mentioned before, everyone on the list is welcome (although if 1,000
people show up, we're gonna have to move into the yard). Just e-mail me
first. If you need a place to crash, we've got room (all over the house, I
should warn. One double bed, two couches, the floor, and if necessary
someone can have my room with the computer). Pizza and possible Albertson's
money is on an if-you-can-pay-okay-if-you-can't-okay basis (I know what it's
like to be broke).

It wasn't really in an episode. Nigel Bennett did a couple of commercials for
Oatmeal Crisps (a breakfast cereal) where he was a scottish gentleman talking
about how good the stuff is -- but "IT'S NOT OATMEAL!"

Even Ger teased him on it in the blooper reel (is that The Thing We Should
Not Have?), where LC is storming towards the camera and is stopped by Ger
holding out a box of the stuff and shouting the tag line. They both broke
up laughing.

Is there more to this joke that I don't know about?

While I agree with this, I don't think -Nick- is, or ever has been
comfortable with it.

It seems to me that what makes a "successful" vampire, to a great extent, is
the ability to adapt one's views away from the beliefs and value system that
one was raised with, and -into- the alternate value system of your new
existance. Nick, 13th century Crusader, son of the church, and believer in
"redemption" that he is, can't do that. And I feel the -can't- is quite
literal.

I don't think many of us can understand the true -hold- that the church had
in an individual's life during that time. And if I were a vampire, planning
my next companion, a Knight of the Crusade is the -last- person I would
choose. Challenge tho it may be.

It seems to me that when he's searching for "mortality", Nick is really
searching for a forum in his life where that ingrained moral code will once
again be valid and recognized, rather than ridiculed.
