Yeah, I did consider that, and consulted the dict., but as NK has only 1 actual vampire 'parent', the opposite sex factor didn't apply in the traditional sense; it seemed to make more sense (seeing as how Nick also does want to kill his 'father') than going with the female (Eletra) version (that would be the Janette-LC faction....) However, I cannot believe those people saying that the Ravenettes are EVIL! They are not evil; the definitions of evil are 1. morally wrong; immoral, wicked. 2. harmful, injurious. 3. characterized or accompanied by misfortune or suffering; unfortunate, disastrous. 4. due to actual or imputed bad conduct or character. 5. marked by anger, irritability, irascibility (which, btw, reads like the ultimate definition of LaCroix!) "Websters Encyclopedic Unabridged Disctionary of the English Language" Janette is amoral - there is a huge chasm of difference, i.e. without moral quality, having no moral standards, restraints or principles - as opposed to moral, i.e. of, pertaining to, or concerned with right conduct or the distinction between right and wrong. She certainly had enough moral fiber in her mortal life; doing what she had to do to survive while still maintaining a spark of humanity, love, caring and yes, morality. IMO, it is only since she, being an exceptionally bright individual, realized her lack of a mortal deadline, that she came to feel *nothing* for humanly imposed restrictions and limitations, a/k/a/ mores and morals. They simply do not apply to her! She is certainly concerned with the vampire community's rules and restrictions - they can affect her and her life (death?). Think about it...if you realized that you will not die, that you will go on when all others around you have passed away, that the wealth, knowledge, taste, etc that you have accumulated will not cease within your grave - I feel that your attitude towards what passes for right and wrong within this earthly realm will under go a vast change - sort of along the lines of ....yeah...sure!!! in your dreams type of thing. One might even characterize it as a sort of ennui with human restrictions. Sort of a "do as thy will, thy will doth not concern" attitude. There is *no* evil, per se, there is simply contempt for perceived restrictions which others may wish to heed, but which pass by unnoticed by Janette. Can anyone confirm that? I can confirm that 1st season FK is indeed being shown in England (they just ran 1966 a week ago), and they are using the long Canadian versions. I believe confusion has occurred because although all the Canadian versions are longer than the US versions, some Canadian versions are longer than other Canadian versions (just to further complicate matters). <g> There was a special version of Canadian eps - someone up there, help me out please, I forget the name - which is the longest version. That is what they are showing in the UK. They are also rather strange because they don't have English subtitles for the French. (So if you don't know French, and don't have the subtitles memorized already, you don't know what they're saying.) A friend of mine and I discovered this by accident one day, when we discovered that my Canadian version of a particular episode contained scenes that her Canadian version didn't. My condo is terribly small (if there are more than five people in it, it's packed), and is therefore not a good place for a party. If someone on-list lives in the Bloomington, IN area (or reasonably close -- within 10-15 miles) has a place they'd be willing to let us use, I will be more than happy to bring my FK tapes (all of Canadian first season, most of third season, and The Thing We Shouldn't Have, as well as my copy of the FK Soundtrack CD). It didn't look to me as though he regained his memory at that point - in fact, that's when Natalie reluctantly told him he was a vampire. As fun and enlightening as Night in Question was, it did have rather large plot holes - one of which was the hanging question of whether Nick *did* regain his memory. I assume that he must have, more or less, because in subsequent episodes he had flashbacks. Some of us on the list "believe" in Vampires, ie, we think they're out there somewhere - hidden - we just haven't met any who declared themselves to us. Tracy doesn't 'believe' in vampires, she's had one "walk up and say 'How-de-do'", thus removing vampires from the realm of "belief" or "disbelief". They exist - deal with it! Having said that, how about a poll? Do you believe that vampires actually exist? Have you met someone who you think *is* a vampire? I'll count the answers and post the results in a month or so.
