LaCroix is Nick's father in many ways Always great to see someone de-lurking. Welcome! Stay, hang out... here, here's a cup of Ribena... Just because there are those of us who "run off at the mouth", that doesn't mean we're not pleased as punch to see new contributors to the dialogue! Funny, because part of the thing I find so intriguing about the vampiric concept of "family" is that it inherently combines the parent-child relationship with a sexual connotation. Now, I have to qualify this: 1) I am no fan of incest, and respect the fact that survivors of abuse might find this extremely disturbing, and 2) I really don't see the LaCroix-Nick relationship in a "slash" context. However: to address the incest factor -- we are not discussing an adult and a child, nor two genetically-related beings; we are discussing two grown, unrelated adults. To my mind, this negates the "incest" factor -- though I can appreciate that there are others who feel differently. The thing is, to a vampire, hunger and desire and reproduction are composed of essentially the same process. Which, after a few centuries' worth of acclimatization, must make the psychology verrrrrrry interesting. When your "food" is also your "child" and your "lover"... well. It's just a goldmine of interesting stuff for any aspiring fanfic writer to dig into, isn't it? So whether one wants to view the LC-NK relationship as "brotherly" or parental or... whatever... or some combination of the three -- any way you slice it, there's a fascinating dynamic between them; and so rich that you can interpret it any way you please. Which makes for some great fanfic. -- Jamie M.R. <immajer@p.......> Asst. Especially by an anonymous group that signed onto the list under a special e-mail address, apparently for the sole purpose of trashing someone. And especially not for trying to be helpful, regardless of the outcome of those efforts. I have already sent a private e-mail to this group expressing these same opinions. These are my opinions; I'm just a listmember who would like to see this list remain friendly. I feel lucky to call Will Steeves a friend of mine. He and his fellow Torontonians Lynne Ackerman and Anna Sawitzky gave me a tour of Toronto while I was visiting in December. For no payment whatsoever, three people spent a whole day going around Toronto showing me the sights. It was an amazing day, & offering to organize and drive for this tour demonstrates Will's outstanding hospitality. And Will was a trooper during the whole thing. They signed their post: > Respectfully yours, > FK Tour Survivors Support Group That is not what I call respect -- neither for Will, nor for the rest of the list. In addition to being an obnoxious "me too" post, I also wanted to say that I thought the unwillingness of the author of this post demonstrated an exceptional degree of cowardice by choosing to handle it this way. Not only was it immature and disrespectful, as Allison very nicely pointed out, but it was *completely* unnecessary. It's bad enough to get flamed in private, which despite efforts to the contrary still happens, but that kind of public thrashing was inexcusable. We need a name. Okay. I need to do some more research on it, (which means though I read it in a book last year, I don't remember the particulars) but there are either Greek or Latin terms (I forget which) called *Eronomoi* and *Erastes*. One of them refers to an older guy, the other to a younger guy. Basically, the older guy (Greek or Roman, I forget which) would kidnap the younger guy, with the consent of the young guy's family, take him off into the woods and, ummmm, teach him to hunt! I swear! This is the truth. I think something along these lines would be grrrrreat! Just my wicked two cents.
