Subject: Nick&Nat/hot vs. intellectual/other stuff

Just a quick post before I dive back into the insanity that is my life at
present(tm)....

Nick and Nat belong together because they're soulmates. Two pieces from the
same puzzle. They understand each other's pain, share the same flaws and
strengths, and just plain *need* each other. So there! <g> And if that
didn't convince ya, Bonnie, <shrugs> so be it. :-)

ObBugCeleste: Look, a whole *row* of smileys!
:-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)

On the "intellectual" N&N vs. "hot" T&V pairings question...
Although fanfic has treated Tracy and Vachon well, I think the main reason
TPTB regarded them as the "hotter" couple was that they were supposed to be
the Marketing Ploy to Reach the Desired Demographic Audience. Some of you
fail to see the sparks between Nick and Nat onscreen....while I failed to see
*anything* between T&V. No friendship, no intellectual connection, no body
heat, *nada.*

Moving right along...the janitor at work asked me why USA was showing nothing
but repeats of FK lately, and I filled him in. (I've got a neon-pink Save FK
flyer posted on my filing cabinet, and when he saw it back in January, he
revealed himself to be a new fan. He's only seen 3rd season, and thought
"Black Buddha" was the *premiere* premiere. He actually watches USA for the
wrestling stuff...and tuned in to FK intially 'cause it was on afterwards.)
Since Larry's very interested in the Internet, too, I took him on an
impromtu tour of the SOS-FK page, wrote down the URL for him, and he said
he'd check it out (he's on CompuServe.) Larry said he likes FK because even
though it's a vampire show, it's really about everyday problems we can all
relate to. He likes Nick because "he's got the affliction, and he's
*fighting* it." Larry's favorite eps are "Blind Faith" (he said he was
really touched by the ending), "Night in Question," and "Dead of Night." He
also thinks LaCroix is "one cold dude" for what he did to Raleigh.

Another quick work/FK note before I plunge back into the world of too much
work, too little sleep, and plenty of caffeine, as pefected by Natalie
Lambert...I also stuck a neon-green SOS flyer on the official bulletin board
at work, where only pre-approved, work-related stuff is supposed to
go--anything else usually gets pulled off immediately--and it has been there
for two *months* now.

But to tell you the truth, it's a common enough phrase here in sunny

it'll probably rain fire." *ironic grin*

Well you just made up my mind. I was going to let my niece and nephew
watch (their mother is the biggest vamp junkie you've ever seen, so I
actually surprised they aren't already) but they already embarrass the
hell out of me everytime we go out in public.

And this Natpacker has no desire to walk through the plaza in my old,
small, rustic town with a couple of knee-biters screaming "LaCroix!"

Now, "Q-tip!" OTOH, might not be so bad...maybe I'll have to reconsider.

Besides, Nick doesn't have enough blood in him to have enough iron, whether

Subject: Merc page & sneakiness in general

Out of sheer nosiness (I think you're all starting to sense a pattern in
my behavior here), I wandered over to the brand new Merc Central web
page. No, I'm not thinking of defecting, but I was curious.

I have just one thing to say. This was the most expensive d*mn web page
I have ever visited. I think I spent 4 pieces of gold checking out the
various links, plus one box of fine chocolates to get in there in the
first place and then *another* payment, this time in jewels, when I got
booted out by accident and had to log back on.

Sheesh, not a very civic-minded affiliation, are they? (I just know the
Mercs are all sitting at their computers nodding vigorously & proudly
right now.)

And then I find out that they're ultra-paranoid about Natpackers and make
you sign a pledge before you can access the link to the Natpacker web
page.

I don't think *I'll* be wanting to hire any Mercs in the next War,
whenever that may be. Three reasons:

 (1) I can't afford them.
 (2) Sneakiness and ingenuity are available within the ranks of my
own faction, although I don't think we are as well-armed with
virtual weapons nor as well-fed with virtual chocolates.
 (3) It's more fun to do your own attacking.
 (4) I think at least *some* Knighties have a serious score to settle
     with a Merc or two.

The poverty-stricken and those who want to join a faction where angst
abounds (but with access to a large-screen TV and other perks during the
Wars), I would just like to note that access to the Knightie Home Page is
*still* free.

  http://www.intex.net/~perridox/knight/knight.html

And you can find some FK links, including links to as many affiliations
as I could find, on my Obsession page:

  http://assets.wharton.upenn.edu/~percy91/obsess.html

OK, it ain't fancy, but it's *free*!

BTW, last time I checked, the mysterious Sony web page (now identified as
some sort of special page made up for the "24 Hours in Cyberspace" event)
is still up and running. The address:

  http://www.spe.sony.com/Pictures/tv/forever/fk24.html

Also, Ravens/Ravenettes, look at the pretty pictures in the following
directory:

  http://www.spe.cony.com/Pictures/tv/forever/afterdark/assets

It seems that sometime last fall Sony contemplated setting up a virtual
chat room called The Raven (some sort of VRML thing) but never actually
got around to implementing it. What a pity! But go grab the pretty
.JPGs of the Raven (including a nice one of Janette at the bar) before
they disappear.

I know what you're all thinking: nosy, nosy! What can I cay, I'm a
Knightie and thus am completely incapable of self control. For once, I'm
not angsting about it, because it's not my fault if they left this
stuff just lying around for anyone to look at! :^)

OK, OK, this is a silly YKYB..., but my brain is absolutely fried right now:

The monstrosity (soon to be called a "book") that I'm proofreading has a
whole chapter on (I kid you not) endangered species of lichen. Yup. And I
can't stop smiling whenever I read parts that contain the words "lichen" and
"increased mortality" in the same sentence, as in "increased mortality to
lichen." And did you guys know that lichen can be used to accurately measure
the level of pollutants in the air? And that really, really bad pollution
over prolonged periods of time actually cause permanent, physiological damage
to lichen, even when the lichen, er, *clings* hundreds of miles away from the
source of the pollution?

I'm sure to be the life of any upcoming party.

Off to make another pot of coffee...

Oh, wait. I need an ObFK. Ummm...what *did* Nick give Natalie for
Valentine's Day last year? She gave him the pill box, LaCroix sent her the
roses...so, after Nick saved her life, what'd he do for her? Ignore her for
a couple months?

map is caught by a gust of air and flutters off into the night.

I beg your pardon.

Regardless of how any others may choose to categorize me, ignoring the
Natpack's blithe confidence that I have been fully assimilated, and the
Mercenaries' grim certainty that I've been well and truly sucked under by
the Natpack tsunami...

I AM the Natpack Merc.

More precisely: I transcend factions; and as this is in fact the role of
the Merc, to transcend affiliations and affiliationlessness (I dare you to
tell me that ain't a word!) I am more perfectly suited to that than to any
other faction.

Basically, I'm just letting 'em all retain their illusions because, well,
the Natpack's lots of fun to hang with, and I've seen the Mercs stage a
wartime rescue; I'm not missing out on being part of that.

Therefore, I AM the Natpack Merc.

Also a Friend of the FoD's with a citation in Advanced Brunch; a Classic
Raven Sympathizer; a semi-Knightie by virtue of competency in self-torture
(angst for the memories); a Vachon-ogler; and despite all my protests to
the contrary, still too damn Cousinly for my own good.

But not a DieHard. NEVER a DieHard.

And then I proceeded to list *four* reasons.

Gee, am I ever glad I spent all that time studying higher mathematics!
%#@&*@! Time to set up my own personal Wall of Shame, like the one that
used to hang in the FK production office, and included things like the
infamous Battle of Hastings line. Hey, now, *there* is something that
they ought to put up for auction in the future! Framed photos of the Wall
of Shame!

Well, 3am and I'd better go to bed before I make an even more embarrassing
mistake.

Weasels. They are WEASELS.

You know that FK logo bitmap at the top of the Sony 24-hour page? It's
MINE.

The one I painstakingly assembled bit-by-bit. THE ONE FROM THE SAVE
FOREVER KNIGHT PAGE. They swiped the logo off the SFK Web Page.

Is that, like, colossal GALL, or what?????

You did not ask for advice, but, hey--that has never stopped me. Don't
be galled by Sony's behavior--get even. Inform them that they are in
violation of your copyright, if you have not had that logo copyrighted
get it copyrighted, demand payment for use. They guys are beginning to

OOTC: Hm. I need another VCR. Why? So last night when we lost our cable, and my
9 year old wanted to watch FK, I would have actually gotten some WORK done in
the room with the VCR, 'cause he could have gone in the living room.

In order to copyright something, all you have to do in NYS is to put
a little c within a circle next to whatever the material is. Nothing big
involved!

Subject: SONY stupidity?

I'm going to play Devil's Advocate for a moment, because I think I see
reasonable explanations for the of the reported errors on the SONY page.

1. 4th season. By some measures, the first season was considered to be
two short seasons. FK went on the air in 1992 with, I think, an initial
order of eleven. When 11 through 22 (or 10-22 if you count the two parts
of Dark Knight as one) began to air in September, TV Guide referred to
it as the second season.

We decided a long time ago on here that most of us thought it was only
one season. However, if SONY's thinking of the first season as two, then
the current season could be considered number four.

2. I think that reference to 3 newsgroups does mean us, Fkspoilr and
Fkfic-l. Look carefully sometimes -- you'll find people who don't know
much about the internet or who are more accustomed to Usenet saying
newsgroup or discussion group all the time, when they mean mailing list.

Btw, it's a great idea to ask them when we can expect this fourth
season and to tell them, preferrably with names and addresses/urls,
how many FK sites there really are.

You know you've been watching too much FK when, on another list, someone
whose first language isn't English is talking about the drug which seems
to be the basis for the zombie legend. "Once a zombie, forever zombie."

And you nearly have hysterics in midoffice because you're envisioning
a zombie who goes around trying to do good, in conflict with his
zombie master, who wants him to give up this foolishness about trying
to regain a mind of his own ....

Well Schanke ofcourse. The Professor was always good at what he tried to do -
Gilligan just kept getting things sort of - er- fried. Schanke's a great cop -
Nick just sort of - manipulates a few things here an there.

Amy Potter <APotter@g.......> said about fangs:
<<My problem with fangs (in all vampire lore, not just FK) is that they
always appear way to short to reach either the internal jugular vein or
carotid artery.>>
Perhaps the fangs extend further during the bite itself. I've
always preferred the theory that the fangs are pushed out using muscles
or something, rather than growing. Of course something should have
shown up on the x-ray in NIQ. I think I can explain that though. :) The
last thing they would have been looking at are his teeth, or if they
did notice it, maybe they assumed it was a mistake, a birth defect, or
he'd had some weird dental work. How's that? :)
Oh, I forgot: we saw the x-ray too, and I think someone said you
couldn't see anything like that. Um, okay...that wasn't Nick's x-ray!

Subject: FK items for sale

I've received permission from the listowner to post this to the list
for anyone who might be interested:

One of the FK crew that I'm in sporadic contact with has decided to
part with various FK items, such as her crew jacket, T-shirts, etc.,
and is not averse to fans having them. However, I should warn you
that she's selling things to the highest bidder and she's looking for
"serious" money here.

The crew jacket is size extra-large, and barely worn. It's in very
good condition. I should mention that she's already had an offer of
$300 U.S. for it, so unless you can match or beat that price, you'd be
wasting your money to contact her about it.

Because she's not online I told her I'd post her notice to the list.
Right now she's mainly interested in selling the crew jacket, but she
will have other items for sale as well. She's working on getting
together a list of everything she's decided she can part with, and
when she does she'll let me know. In the meantime, if you're
>seriously< interested in the crew jacket please let me know and I'll
pass on her phone number to you so you can contact her directly.

Also, if you think you'd be interested in anything else she might
have, please let me know that as well...now...and I'll let you know
when she has her list compiled. This is the only time I'll be posting
this notice, so if you think you might be interested in whatever else
she'll make available, you have to let me know now so I can contact
you later.
