Sorry to jump into this late, but I've been away, and some things I
can't let slide without putting in my two cents worth. <g>

Imo, it never has. I see them as friends, buddies, compadres, period.
Close friends, yes. Folks who care about each other, yes. But not
more than that.

Imo, one of the major reasons that Nat likes to be around Nick is
because he's *safe*. Unattainable. Someone to watch movies with, do
things with, *fit into conventional society with*, but without any
worry of things getting beyond that. (And I'd love to see an episode
which explored why she is that way - come to think of it, I wrote one,
didn't I, Celeste? <g>). Meanwhile, Nick thinks he is attracted to Nat
because he is attracted to her mortality. If he ever did become mortal
though, I think any illusion of a romantic relationship between the
pair would fall away so fast as to make one's head spin. Though I will
concede that things might work out differently if she were to become a
vampire. But that's because of the way I see vampiric relationships,
and constitutes a whole different subject.

Which is why, I'll never be a Nick&Natpacker <g>.

On this subject, btw, during my conversation last month with Nick Gray,
when he was discussing the Nick/Nat and Tracy/Vachon relationships, he
described the Nick/Nat relationship as "intellectual" whereas the
Tracy/Vachon relationship was *hotter*. Which, in turn, is why they
decided they couldn't develop it (or them), because the moment they let
it run its course, she'd be dead. (Just some insight into how TPTB
think.)

You're far from alone, but this issue was debated to death in the early
part of third season, and those of us who were involved then are either
less active in (or gone from) the list now, unwilling to rehash this
topic, and/or see no reason to annoy/depress people who like third
season, especially since being negative about it can't change anything.

Fwiw, I think the second half of third season, from Night in Question
(ep 10) onwards has been very good, though I still miss Schanke and
Janette, have no use for Tracy, and only like Vachon in scenes with
Nick. I have no use for the first nine eps of this season, which I
keep only for the sake of completeness but will not rewatch and ignore
to the extent possible.

Just my opinion, but you're far from alone out there.

Subject: Adult posting?

Hi all ---

I was just wondering ... what constitutes a story being posted on "Adult"
Fkfic-l? I was thinking this because I had a neat idea for a fanfic piece,
but the language content is beyond strong. For example, if someone did
something like "Reservoir Knights" or the like, would it go under "Adult"
or would it go normally with a very strong disclaimer at the head? And if
it did go under "Adult," how do you post it that way?

ObFK: I went into a comic shop and from the corner of my eye I spotted a
comic book called "Eternal Warrior"! Tippi fever must be spreading!

Also: If somone said that they were as old as the century, how old would
that make them? I thought 2000, but that seemed way too old for the non-FK
vampire in question.

Subject: Why Ger doesn't swallow

I suspect it's because of something that happened in the first season.
According to Ger in various interviews, he had to drink straight Ribena
over and over again for one scene, and it finally made him throw up.

This was probably the scene at the Raven after Nick goes off the deep
end when his sponsor tries to seduce him in Feeding the Beast. He has
even Janette alarmed by his attitude and he's knocking back the stuff
in gulps. Ger keeps grimacing. He uses the expression in character, but
if you know about the throwing up, you can tell he's reacting to the
taste.

According to the Canadian Almanac and Directory 1996, on June 13, 1996 in
Toronto the sun rises at 4:35 a.m. and sets at 8:00 p.m. giving Nick 15
hours and 25 minutes of hiding to do. On the opposite side of the scale, on
January 7, 1997 in Toronto the sun rises at 7:51 a.m. and sets at 4:57 p.m.
giving him only 9 hours and 6 minutes of deadly sunlight. As far as I can
tell these are the longest and shortest days of the coming year based on the
charts in the almanac.

My understanding of the idiom "as old as the century" is that it's the
last two digits that are being referred to. In 1996, someone as old as
the century would be 96 years old.

As old as the millenium would be 996 (this being the second millenium of
the Common Era).

From: Allison Percy <percy91@w.......>
Subject: Sony postcards & web page

I was wandering around on the Sony FK web site, and look what I stumbled
across! A mysterious web page created in early February but never (to my
knowledge) linked to the other Sony FK web pages.

  http://www.spe.sony.com/Pictures/tv/forever/fk24.html

The part that made my jaw hit the floor, since it's news I haven't seen
elsewhere (typos are theirs):

"This past Christmas Sony debuted electronic cards
whcih could be sent out to friends and family in
cyberspace. Sony had pledged $10,000 to charity
and invited stars from their numerous T.V. shows
to pick a charity they would like to sponsor. The
percentage of cards sent would equal the
percentage of the $10,000 to be donated to the
individual charity. In all over 24,000 cards were
sent and Forever Knight accounted for 68% of the
  24,000."

Note: 68% x 24,000 = 16,320

I know I sent hundreds of those things myself, mostly involving really bad
poetry, before my fingers went numb & I resorted to sending money directly
to PAF. Obviously some people didn't quit so easily! :^)

Also note, this means more than $6,800 went from Sony to PAF, since
another of their stars (the woman from "Married with Children") also chose
PAF as her charity.

But what's even more interesting about this page is that they describe how
the fans organized their own fundraising campaign for PAF, raising $6,000
within a few weeks. (That would be the amount delivered to PAF in January
during FK Appreciation Week.)

Are they proud of us? Are they trying to take credit for us? I don't
care, I'm just glad they are interested in what we do! :^)

A personal request: if anyone is thinking of contacting Sony about the
information on this page, please hold off for a few days. They just might
decide to delete the page if someone contacts them about it; if we hold
off for a few days, maybe everyone on the list will have a chance to look
at the page before it disappears.

Subject: Re: A Scrunk Revisited

Actually, now that I think of it, there really is no reason to convince anyone
that Nick and Nat should be together. I don't think there is any way you can do
that, any more than anyone could convince anyone else that my husband and I
should be together. We are opposites in so many things that when we got married
everyone had bets on how long it would last. People asked me why we wanted to
get married in the first place and nothing I could say would convince them that
we should do that. Not even saying we loved each other as NIck and Nat do.
That was not enough of a reason, you can live together and not get married was
one of the things they offered.

Well, 18 years later and we're still together and 95% of the friends that
laughed at us are laughing from the other sides of their faces. They've married
and divorced once, twice and even three times in the same amount of time that
his couple that just couldn't last has been married.

SO, I say, one does not have to prove why Nick and Nat should be together if
they truly believe they should be, they just should be coz they wanna be and
that's that! (Stamping foot and crossing arms!!) So there!!

As a self-proclaimed *expert* in Ribena <g> ...

I discovered Ribena on a trip to England in, oh, say 1984 or so, and
picked up a fondness for it then. Long before Forever Knight's time.
So there! :-)

And my husband adores the stuff. During our recent trip to England, he
pretty much drank it every day.

Of course, we're talking about the cartoned stuff, the way it is
usually sold in supermarkets and vending machines in England. NOT the
undiluted supersweet concentrate -- which believe it or not comes with
warning labels not to drink it straight <g> -- that our favorite actors
have to swill without diluting it. That stuff is a little too much for
me. (Anyone else out there remember drinking coke syrup as a
*medication* as a child? Same principle.)

And imo Ribena is NOTHING like Koolaid, which I detest.

Btw, on the subject of Ribena, we use the term generically on list, but
technically we should be talking about Ribena blackcurrant flavor.
Other flavors include Ribena blackcurrant lite (probably what got into
LC's bottles early in the season <g>); Ribena blackcurrant no sugar
added; Ribena strawberry; Ribena raspberry; Ribena forest fruits (a
combination of blackcurrant, elderberry, raspberry and I forget what
else that is a relatively recent addition to the Ribena family and
another one I'm rather partial to); and Ribena apricot-and-orange.
But I believe Ribena blackcurrant was the first and still the favorite
in the UK.

As far as I know, only Ribena blackcurrant has made it into the US.
And, oddly enough, although it is difficult to find the prediluted,
ready to drink Ribena in this country, it is equally difficult to find
the undiluted concentrate in England! Go figure! :-)

I just got back from buying Ribena. There are two sizes
available so check when pricing - 400 ml at my store is
$5.90 (US), 600 ml from their catalogue lists at $7.30 (US).

And for the truly demented voluntary Ribena drinkers I present:
     Juicy Jugulars
          4 envelopes Knox unflavored gelatin
          1 cup cold Ribena*
3 cups Ribena* heated to boiling

*Mix Ribena to taste - I made mine slightly strong.
In a bowl, sprinkle gelatine over the cold Ribena, let stand
1 minute. Add hot Ribena and stir to dissolve gelatine
completely. Pour into a 13 x 9 in pan and chill until firm.
Cut (dissect?) into desired shapes.

I admit I haven't taste tested these because I just mixed them
up but I'll try it later tonight after work. The Ribena did taste
good to me - even undiluted.
