Subject: (Fwd) Casting

Forwarded from someone wishing to remain anonymous:

Nick -- the young Alec Guinness <sigh>; Daniel Day Lewis
Natalie -- the young Wendy Hiller; Emma Thompson
Janette -- the young Anouk Aimee <another sigh>; Juliette Binoche (not
really strong enough; don't know the current crop of French actresses)
LC -- Harris Yulin (who's not as known, but is *fine*); Anthony Hopkins
Schanke -- can't think of the right person
Captain -- Grahame Greene (Stonetree model)

The idea here was to take the top of each of the series' actors' line:
whose roles they would take if these people weren't at those particular
tops. Lewis may not have enough humor: he does have everything else.

Hey all,
Got another question. What's the word on posting stories to both JADFE and
FKFIC (under the adult header of course). Is it considered spamming? I just
posted a very short (and I think funny) story to JADFE and wanted to put it

LOL on the idea of vampires line dancing to "Achy Stakey Heart"..or
however they put it. I suppose we could get Dolly Parton to play
Jeanette (wait; let me *duck* before you pitch those bottles of

Seriously (NOT!) I think we've found Nick's new career, as it looks
like it may be time for him to move on again....COUNTRY WESTERN
SINGER. He certainly has enough angst to suit the music.
And perhaps here's another song challenge...writing vampire country
and western songs?

Of course...if Nick would rather go more new-wave, I'm reminded of a
favorite old Sparks' song...."Angst in my Pants."

Subject: Response from Sony

I finally got a reply from one of the two letters I sent to
Feltheimer. It says:

_____________________________________________________________________
Thank you for your letter.

It is the passion of fans such as yourself that has fueled Forever
Knight the past several seasons. We're extremely proud that this
series' distinct creative voice attracted such a deeply loyal
audience.

It was our hope and vision that Forever Knight's core audience would
eventually expand into one of mass market appeal; however, this did
not happen. Subsequently, the economic realities in our business
often force us to make difficult decisions about very good television
programs. This is one of those cases.

While original programming may not be available beyond this season,
Forever Knight will live on. We hope you will tune in for some
original episodes as well as telecasts of encore episodes on The
Sci-Fi Channel, beginning this Spring.

Thank you again for your continued support.

Sincerely,
Justin Pierce
Sr. VP Media Relations, Sony Television Entertainment
_____________________________________________________________________

Okay -- can anyone figure out what "original episodes" refers to in
the final paragraph? The hinted-at tv movies? Third season reruns?
And has anyone else heard anything about the Sci-Fi Channel? I know
they're related to USA, but this is the first inkling I've had that
they were getting involved in any way.

I thought you folks might want some cheerful news. I got a form letter
a couple of weeks ago from my Fox-affiliate that shows FK, and it said
something like "thanks for watching and we'll pass on your scheduling
comments to our programming staff" (I had said the normal it is on too
late kind of thing). Well this week the tv guide says that FK is on not
Friday at 12:30 a.m., after an infomercial but at 11 p.m. Saturday after
Mad-TV. I would love to think this is in response to my letter, but
that somehow doesn't seem likely, but I will write a thank you note to
programming anyway, just to let them know that I noticed.

It is KYOU Fox-15 in Ottumwa, Iowa.

This is the most ridiculous piece of (expletive deleted) that I've ever
heard.

Because if there's one thing we know for sure, it's that the cancellation
of FK had NOTHING to do with economic realities. If that were the case,
either a) TriStar would have honored their word to wait for AND PAY
ATTENTION to the February numbers before cancelling FK, or b) TriStar would
have sold FK for a tidy sum of money to the highest bidder.

This is not about economics. This is about something much dirtier than
economics. They know that perfectly well, and SO DO WE, and all the
politely-phrased form letters in the world ain't gonna change the facts.

That's a very nice letter you received. And it's a very nice story. It's
what they want us to believe. But IT'S NOT TRUE.

Subject: FK the movie..with Star Wars cast

The idea of using Harrison Ford in FK the movie got me thinking...the
Luke/Darth Vader relationship in Star Wars has some similarities to
Nick and LaCroix's. .... (Remember, luke and Darth appeared to be
patching things up toward the end..sort of like our two vamps.)
So...
NICK: Luke Skywalker
LaCroix: Darth Vader
Vachon: Han Solo (in a nasty wig??)
Nat: Princess Leia (changes the Nick/Nat relationship...but Nick
really needs "tough love" sometimes, and Leia sure can dish it out.)
Either that, or it's Yoda as Nat, for similar reasons...but what a
horrible picture that brings to mind!)
Screed: Jabba the Hut (imagine him, lurking in the sewer...ewwww.)

Well, the main Star Wars cast is a little small to match FK,
part-for-part...I'm drawing a blank for Tracy, Schanke, Reese and
Jeanette (though Leia might be an interesting Jeanette...a bit too
tough, maybe...probably scare off the Raven's customers...Ooh...I
just got an image of the Raven redone as the Star Wars Cantina...with
those weard aliens as the house band....

this is because when I started writing fkfic (or, shall I say, was cursed to

Quick question about the fic list....how do I make sure I'm getting
everything including things with an ADULT header? I know how to find out
what I'm set for, but I don't know if I'm set to get everything or not.
<shrug> sorry for the ignorance :)

Anybody else get HoD last night? I was watching it *again* and caught
something new. At the beginning, just as Ellen leaves the Raven, it sounds
like she tells Urs that she's hungry? Was I imagining things, reading more
into this than I should have or did the writers give it all away at the
beginning? Once again, any comments need to come to me OFFLIST!!

What do you think? I mean, these guys have been pretty harsh themselves...
besides, if its par for the course, they probably won't even open them. On

Apparently when they show "Starman" the episodes are "butchered", and
scenes are cut or shortened with no regard to their relevance to the
story line. Commercial breaks are also apparently put in at times
different from the original showings. We don't get the SciFi Channel
up here, but that's what I've heard from fans in the U.S.

They handed out the awards for the supporting actors last night, and
Nigel won for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series!
Congratulations, Nigel!

The award for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series (for which Deb
was nominated) went to Patricia Hamilton for "Road to Avonlea".

The awards for which Ger and Catherine are nominated will be given out
tonight. I'll post the results either late tonight or early tomorrow.

If anyone is interested in the full list of awards please let me know
(by private e-mail) and I'll send it to you. A word of warning - it's
>very< long!

It is my own opinion that helping the FK show "expand into one of
mass market appeal" would have included *airing it at reasonable hours*;
giving it some real PR, making available Forever Knight merchandise, having
its stars do publicity here in the States on talk shows, news shows, charity
events, etc., and arranging write-ups in various publications such as
"People Magazine" etc. USA, Tri-Star and Paragon all appeared to have
depended on 1 recurring ad in People Magazine and 10 and 30 second promos
aired just before the show to attract an audience; scheduling it to follow
*wrestling* would also not count as one of the smarter placement moves USA made.

It took X-Files a steady, same time, Friday night time slot, and 2
seasons to develop into a big hit and even now, if one looks at the rankings
of the shows, X-Files is *not* amongst the top 10 or even 20 shows...it does
occupy, however, a steady 30-40 place ranking, and generates a lot of
publicity for its stars, something FK has never done. Has there ever been a
major piece done on either GWD, or DD, or CD or NB? Not that I have ever
seen! Have any of the shows stars ever appeared on any of the AM talk
shows? Again, not that I've ever seen. Has any of the stars ever even
appeared in "People Magazine"? Again, I've never seen them. Was there a
dearth of publicity or were the Forever Knight stars publicity shy?

If one should go into any comic store, the X-Files comic holds a
place of great exposure; book stores will have the X-Files books, discount
stores all have T-Shirts, hats, books, etc. readily available...the stars of
the show are always on TV or in the news magazines with quotes, pictures,
appearances, etc. I wouldn't call Vancouver a mainstream, media capitol,
but Duchoveny and Anderson are all over the boards generating publicity for
their show.

We, on the Internet, are devoted fans but each and every one of us
has had the experience of meeting other people who will tell us either they
have never seen or heard of the show, or if they have seen it, say, "Oh
yeah, that's a good show...when is it on again?" Going out beyond the
on-line experience only demonstrates that true lack of support Forever
Knight was given by its promoters and can lead one to believe that there was
a political reason behind this lack of support. I *hate* the idea of
political conspiracies...I just don't think people are that malleable and
can be manipulated by others that easily, but, obviously something is (was)
going on that we, the show's fans, were unaware of. Perhaps USA was forced
to take the show as part of another deal and then simply decided *not* to
support it...who knows?

In my mailer I couldn't tell if this came to me or the whole
list. I bounced Cousin's Diane's rebec/cello question to Fred Mollin,
and found this partial message in my box today.

I assume it begins with "please pass" or something like that

[please pas]s on to Cousin Diane:

The opening notes of the FK theme are digitally sampled cello.
It seemed to work at the time, and your lovely letter tells me it's still
working..

thanks a million

I've sent the information to Shannon.

As for the movie cast, having watched Outbreak last night, I could see
Donald Sutherland as LC and almost see Dustin Hoffman as Nick. Would
that make Renee Russo Janette?

Sherri,

As far as I'm concerned - send the damn cards -they sound great! What more
could they do to us now anyway? It really doesn't matter, they've lied to us,
and taken away our show -there's nothing more they can do to us anyway. The
only way I'd say no is if it could, in some way, hurt the people we care about
(those involved in the show). I would want any kind of backlash because of that
- but I don't think that would be a problem.

Do you think?

televised so I have no idea what he would have said. Maybe I can find
out today.

Nigel won - great!! At least they realize great talent when they see it. Now,
does that mean there's a good chance it might be followed by one for Ger (hope,
hope, fingers crossed). At least they 'll get something good this year from the
show they worked so hard on. I think that would be a fitting ending to a
fabulous piece of work for Ger, don't you think!!?

Congrats Nigel - ya definitely deserve it!! But we always knew that anyway.

Sherri-

I think your card is funny--and most likely -- Feltheimer, Perth and
Kolpovitz won't actually be reading them. However, I still feel we have to
be careful about the tone of our letters, now that we are in the fight for FK
for the long haul. We don't know who will be helpful in the future. I
think we have to be pragmatic-- I don't think we should risk turning anyone
off to our campaign.

Besides, regarding this, I keep think of that quote from the
Godfather--"keep your friends close and your enemies closer" ;-)

Siona,

I totally agree on the Sutherland pick! It was just what I thought
of,especially towards the end,which I won't ruin for anyone,but one of the
lines he said could have been written for LC!
