There's no way around it, we're kinda stupid that way. We like to have fun and we like to share that fun, even if the punchline borders on the sadistic. ::wicked grin:: We tend to work well in small groups, though you probably won't see us *all* do something at once. I think there is a very good reason for that too. It's not that we don't have a sense of community... Cousins are just as loyal to their own as any faction. Like LaCroix, though, we're all a headstrong lot and we all have ideas and we all want to see them executed. LaCroix can enforce his opinions, though, and we don't because we're all the same to each other. Did that make any kind of sense at all? **And Now For Something Completely Different** The thing with the different shades of eyes... it has to do with the different kinds of contacts they used. During the first season, the contacts were a kind of lime green becoming yellow in the centers (though you could only see that in the close-ups). In the second season, they used contacts that reflected the light that was shown on them, so we got vampires with glowing red eyes. Without the light shining on them, and there were some scenes that they were used without the glow, they seemed to be a kind of yellowish green. Paler than first season, but not that noticable. Third season went back to non-reflective green, reportedly because the reflected light from the second season lenses made seeing too difficult. (Didn't Ger mention tripping over a light stand once because he couldn't see past the glow of his own eyes?) The only new effect this season was in "Sons Of Belial" when we saw Nick vamp out in front of us... his eyes went green before our eyes through the use of post production computer animation... though some interpreted the eye color change to be the demon rather than Nick's vampire nature showing through. I think I got all that right. ::grin:: If I made any mistakes, please someone let me know. === Take It Light === ___________________________________________________________ .Cousin Zillah. .zillah@i........ This point is especially interesting because we keep using the "bringing across" metaphor to describe new fans. Pushing this a bit, the relationship of a fan with the episode -- or the season -- that brought her across would be... On second thought, maybe I don't want to push this metaphor, after all. :) Personally, the first episode I watched *on purpose* was "BB," but the episode that "brought me across" was "NiQ." Does that make it merely logical that I'm an N&Ner? And that I'm so attracted to the whole "redemption" motif? So my question is, is he only a part of fan fic, or is he actually an FK vampire? He appeared in th first season ep. "Hunted." The reason he seems like a purely fic character is because that's the only ep he appears in. TPTB have a nasty habit of doing vamp-of-the-week cameos. A vamp character is introduced only once to provide plot elements for Nick or the other main vamps. Then that new character is never seen again. I. for one, hate it when they do this! I know that the show is about Nick, LC, Janette, and Vachon, but they don't exist in a vacuum. TPTB can't just play lip service to the "Community." This is an old gripe. The vamp-of-the-week phenomenon is a manifestation of TPTB's disreguard for continuty. They've improved continuity this season, but I doubt we will get much on those one timer vamp characters. OK, here's a wild idea: since, as we've discussed in the past, closure is bad in terms of future movies and so on (think Alien Nation as a potential model for FK returning as films), mightn't TriStar object to any wholesale slaughter? We know from JP that, at least in January, the concept of a future TV or direct-to-video movie had been at least discussed. Someone with more industry knowledge tell me: how likely is it that TriStar knows in advance how JP is planning to wrap the series? I would think, especially after 2 months of "harassment" from us, the answer is "not very." TriStar probably doesn't want to even think about FK, especially since it's sending even non-FK mail off to Paragon unopened. But wouldn't they want to know? Isn't a possible "Blake's 7" ending going to damage the value of a property they apparently want to retain? That episode wrapped whatever filming it was going to involve last week and is now in post-production. Editing can alter episodes even after filming. Is it worth taking a crack at getting TriStar involved? Or Sony? Since we also know that TriStar now seriously hates SOS-FK, there's no point in us writing to them; someone would have to phone. And that phonecall would be hampered by the incompleteness of our knowledge. Still, we can honestly say that we've had two indications from Paragon, both LA and Toronto, that the final episode although substantially composed of clips, will significantly limit their future story options. Is this idea either completely unrealistic or unworkable? Not to mention just plain stupid? Laurie, Toni H.? Yes, I have seen some (about 10) of season 1 and a couple of season 2 -- I like them, I really do! But I *really* like season 3. It doesn't sound to me that most people on this list agree with my taste (or reasons therefore) in eps, but the only season 3 eps that I haven't liked much are Blackwing (and if it weren't for the Vachon angle in this one, I would never bother to watch it again) and Strings. Season 1 eps have a lot of good plots and scenes, and I really like the miriade of relationships between all of the characters -- you can really see the potential in all of them (love the Schanke/Janet -- I mean, Janette -- scenes). Someone else posted something to the effect of "does when you come into this show effect your opinion on the seasons" (sorry, can't remember who). I think this is very true. I got hooked on the characters as portrayed in season 3, and I know this taints my view every time I watch an ep from a previous season. For me it's like, "I know you now and I like you now, so tell me a story from when you were younger," every time I decide to pop in a pervious season tape. I love to watch them, but they always leave me wanting more of *this* season. If (WHEN) Sony puts the tapes up for sale, I will buy them all, but, if I could only buy *one* season, I would buy season 3. My idle opinion. And I love this list for the reason that we all have these terrificly different view points about this show that we all obviously love. Some mildly famous person (compulsive literary-minded people on the list can probably tell me who) said "it's not the story, but what you bring to it." This definately applies to this list. We all come from such diverse backgrounds all across the world, so we all have these wonderfully unique perspectives on the characters and their motivations. It's great. Tiger Lily (bonnie@o.......) One example was some guy going for an acting audition who used it to convince the guy that he was best for the job. These exercises were not religiously specific. Good point -- although we may have to endure a while (the Knighties ought to be good at that) it could be stripping the first three seasons that gets some sort of recall of the show or if not, maybe made for TV- long episode occasional movies (No matter what they do in the "last ep" -- nothing is ever truly "finished" in TV land). On a slightly related note:: The guy at USA from whom I get my schedule for Highlander re-runs told me today that said that while USA has "re-run rights", he thinks USA doesn't have rights to the 3rd season beyond "Fever" --does this make any sense? I thought they had shown some eps beyond this? (I have to admit I don't watch USA very often...) Anyway he gave me the March schedule for FK as well. 3/7/96 Thur 1am - "Blind Faith" 3/14/96 Thur 1am - "Strings" 3/21/96 Thur 1am - "Fever" 3/28/96 Thur 1am - "Night in Question" I think it's worth sending a few more disingenuous letters to USA saying "I'm so glad you're still showing FK episodes -- when do we get new ones???" just to keep reminding them. -Toni <tch@w.......> ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 25 Feb 1996 22:11:56 -0500 From: Roxanne Piccen <RoxanneP@a.......> Subject: Problem with Sony FK Page? Not sure everyone will consider this good news, given the reaction to the postings re the Caddys, but ... There's a pretty good chance that the FK Production Office is going to make available to the list a number of smaller FK props, to be auctioned off, with the proceeds to go to the Pediatric AIDS Foundation. It also appears there may be several other fannish charity auctions of FK memorabilia, so at least some things are not being destroyed. More details when they become available. I'd make copies for her, but most of my eps are n-th generation, and I shudder to think what the offspring would look like; besides, I only have one (rather ornery) VCR. I'd really appreciate it if somebody could do a set for her (see if you can't work a trade for some of her fantastic artwork). Please contact Amy at aas2@c........ OBFK: in Dark Knight, Nick and Janette have a discussion suggesting that they've gone by various different names. We've seen the last names change, but what about the first? I'm new around here and haven't figured out a lot of the technical stuff that is going on. I'm going away for a couple weeks, and don't want to miss ANYTHING that's going on. What will happen to me and my mailbox if I just let it pile up while I'm gone? Will my mail vanish in a puff of smoke? Will I have 50,000 messages waiting for me upon my return? (You can get there by hotlink from Jasmine's FK homepage; it's so nice I bookmarked it.) Aside from what lured me there, the really good Vachon picture (from Black Buddha), there are really good images of everyone, plus grabs from episodes: at the moment, A More Permanent Hell (great images of Divia munching Lucius, Janette leaning over a smoking Natalie, and Spark, both lively and staked); Queen of Harps, and the episode that brought me over for keeps, Can't Run, Can't Hide (that episode featured a lovely young vampire with long black hair... the young Viet Cong organizer LaCroix brought across.) There are also some waves; I don't know if they're in German or English -- imagine what the Nightcrawler would sound like in German. And you can practice reading German, since every fourth or fifth word is something you'll recognize, like Raven.
