I got no mail at all yesterday from any of the lists. Now I am back and
happy. Did nayone get the depressing announcement about the acution of
Vachon's motoercycle and 2 of Nick's Caddys?
I about cried when I heard that.

I'll miss FK( until we get it back) an all the fine acting, writing and high
quality of the show in general.

The episode that brought LC back is the first episode of the second season

Could someone please e-mail me and tell me where I can find the wars
other than War one and two? Those are the only ones on the fiction site,
the last time I looked, and I've read on those already... I'm really wanting
to read the others. Is there anywhere I can get them? Thanks in advance!

Mea culpa! I'm in the process of catching up on back posts to forkni-l &
fkspoiler. After I got fed up with trying to suss out what people meant uby
alluding to B7, I asked this list for enlightenment (since my request was not
a spoiler for fk, it seemed to me that it wasn't appropriate to ask on that
 list).
I have now read, several messages later, an answer on fkspoiler to my question.

ObFK: Is anyone here planning to try buying one of Nick's caddies that TPTB
are auctioning off? *sniff* To think that just a few months ago, in far
happier times, we were blithely discussing what we would like from the sets
when they finally struck set. Little did we realize that would happen so soon!
But may the SOS-FK campaign convince *some* PTB (likely not the ccurrent
combination...) to rebuild the sets yet again!

Subject: YKYB/See you Monday/TopTen/Etc!

Hey all!

Item A. After not receiving any mail from FORKNI for over 24 hours, I did
something drastic. I unsubscribed. Of course, I then turned right around
and subscribed again. ;) Seems to have cleared up the problem, and I now
receive FORNKI mail again. I'll be on digest till Monday, as I am going on
Road Trip '96, drinking beaujolais and eating brownies with Cousin Suk and
others in the D/FW area.

Item B. YKYBWTMFK when you have a dream that Nick gets his dream come true
and becomes mortal, except he gets shot in the line of duty. But instead of
dying, he finds out that he's an immortal and Duncan MacLeod (of the Clan
MacLeod, who else?) teaches him how to chop people's heads off. Nick was
really peeved at first, I mean it was kinda ironic dontcha think, to find out
that you can't escape immortality? But then he and Nat went -- and I don't
know why I dreamed this part -- to James Coney Island and Lacroix made chili
dogs for all concerned. This was a particularly weird dream, since I don't
even watch the HL series!

Item C. Just real quick, the top ten things I'm gonna do on my road trip:
10. Ask them if they have any bottled blood at the Seven Eleven. 9. Put a
bumper sticker on my rented Nissan Sentra that says: "My Caddy's in the
Shop". 8. Bring across the waitress or waiter who serves me at the Howard
Johnson's. 7. Write grafitti in the bathroom stalls of gas stations: that
cool dripping logo from FK's opening sequence. 6. Introduce myself as the
Nightcrawler's Loveslave to the guy at the car rental place. 5. Hypnotize
people to caw like a crow every time they go to a TriStar movie. 4. Spend
money I don't have. 3. Eat brownies (see above). 2. Meet and marry a really
really rich guy (or string of guys) who'll include in our wedding vows the
words: "I promise to fund future seasons of Forever Knight." And the number
one thing I'll be doing: 1. Coming up with more FK top ten lists. Muahahaha!

See ya Monday! Keep the blood warm.

Subject: Cranes, cars, catastrophe

Now that I've finished folding my cranes (sincerely wishing for more
Forever Knight with each one) and am preparing to drop them in the mail, I
have to wonder if this project is still ongoing. All the lists have been
dead for almost 2 days, but I did manage to get the post about Nick's caddy
being for sale from another source. Pretty hard to keep thinking positive
thoughts with news like that.

Of course, if one of us *should* buy the caddy... well, for one thing we'd
(the car and owner, natch) would get invited to *lots* of upcoming cons.
Perhaps the lucky owner could even pay for the car that way... Just picture
it. "Step this way and have your photo taken in Nick's caddy for only..."
Heck, I'd pay. Oh well, just a thought.

Does anyone have an opinion on when we can expect to see first season
episodes? I've *never* seen one. Just imagine... 26 episodes just sitting
there waiting to be seen. Now *there's* something to look forward to!

Re: Cranes et. al.

I did some research a few nights ago at the library (heaven forfend an
artist looking at a book! *grin) and I found out why some people were
concerned about sending cranes and dual meanings.
In 1977 Eleanor Coeer wrote a book called _Sadako and the
Thousand Paper Cranes_. It was/is a piece of childrens literature about
a boy hospitalized in Hiroshima with the "dreaded atom bomb disease
-leukemia." Sadako races against time to fold one thousand paper cranes
to verify the legend that by doing so a sick person will become healthy.

I am absolutely positive that there are more such books written, but I
can't list 'em all, cause you'd lynch me for filling your inboxes!
Anyway, it's a fantastic, is sad, book with paintings by Ronald Himler.

If you haven't done so already, check out Diane E.'s webpage on cranes (
I sent her an image for it, but I'm not sure if she go it..)

What is this??? I missed this note from Alora. Could someone please
e-mail me with it. PLEASE???

Now, if I am reading between the lines correctly, Alora talked to Gary at
Paragon and the last ep is going to be "closure" of the series? that is,
that everyone will die and/or Nick will become mortal? Or maybe Nick
will be mortal and then die.

> E-x-c-u-s-e me. Isn't JP in charge of the creative end here? I mean sure,
> Jon Feltheimer or Kay K. might be mad enough at us to do something mean

Because he doesn't want to think about it, or worry about it, or have us
continue to write to Tristar. Perhaps he thinks we are causing trouble
for him and doesn't want to be bothered with it anymore. He has probably
rearranged his mental mindset to "the end of FK" and now we are just
causing trouble.

What really P_sses me off though, is that Tristar lied. Perhaps Tristar
threatened him with not giving him work in the future if he didn't kill
off FK. It is entirely probable in my mind. For JP, it may be like a
deathly ill child, at some point you just want the agony to end. You
love your child, but you want his pain to end. There are less polite
interpretations for JP's behavior, but I'll trying to give him the
benefit of the doubt.

This is clearly no longer a business decision on Tristar's part, but a
"we're gonna kill that sucker if its the last thing we do. We're going
to shut those godd__m fans up." Given that they are shipping unopened
mail to Paragon, this is the only conclusion I can reach. They don't
care about the show or even the number of people watching it. They are
gonna kill it if it kills them. The Tristar execx simply can't take the
chance that another company could make a success out of the show.

> Somebody tell me this isn't happening. Please.

Its happening. I heard that Starman was axed not because of bad ratings
but because someone up top wanted to ax it. Now FK was started getting
the ax because of the ratings, but the final blow is that Tristar wants
to sweep this whole mess under the table. They are looking more and more
foolish with all the publicity. The sooner they can shut us up, the
better in their mind. So they get JP to creatively H-bomb the show so it
can never NEVER be resurrected.

This is really sick, but it is certainly an eye opener for the business
world. Job security is always number 1.

I *love* this episode! Actually I have not seen it all the way through yet.
USA had it as a repeat last night and I just could not stay awake for it so
I recorded it and watched as much as I could of it today at lunch. I am
*dying* to get home to finish it! I even jammed home during my 15 minute
break to make sure I hadn't left it in the VCR to get recorded over and,
since I was there, I re-watched (about 12 times) the scene where Vachon
shows up in the Caddy and says to Nick, "Cars with fins are kinda sexy.
Don't ya think? More predatory." This is *classic*. Now, the
resolution/ending may suck, I don't know, but I must rank the aforementioned
scene as one of my all time favorites -- right up there with the one where
Nat chucks handfuls of popcorn at Nick.

>and Outside the Lines? Haven't seen it yet (thank goodness USA is good for
something)

>Let No Man Tear Asunder. Only saw this once, and I don't remember it very
well. Is this the ep with Nat getting knee surgery? 'Cause if it is, then
I loved the end scene with Nick and Nat where he makes some smarmy
compliment about her knee and then leans in to kiss her but she ducks out of
the way, or the scene where Nat is all fidgety on the table before her
operation, or when Tracy is talking to Vachon about the illegal donations --
"Do you want me to draw you a picture?".

And, of course, Fever was my absolute favorite so far. So many great
scenes. So much was given to the actors to work with and they all did a
helava job with it!

So, I still say that I *love* season 3 and I would not be un-happy by a long
shot if season 4 continued in the same vein.

them, even at 6 hour speed. And Strings would be a dumper, too, if it didn't
have the interesting subplot with Tracy and her father. Admittedly, this
season produced one of my votes for worst episode in the show's history
(Blind Faith), but can anything be worse than last season's Baby, Baby?

And while I won't defend Let No Man Tear Asunder in general, it *did* have
two nice little Vachon scenes, which puts it ahead of many others...

Ah, subjectivity--such a lovely thing.

If any of the following is incorrect, please feel free to correct me.

FK novels are tentatively planned to start coming out in early 1997.
(No, I don't know why it's taking them so $%^&$% long; I never will
understand that.)

The book deal was ready when the SOS FK campaign came along and sort of
put things on hold; now, my understanding is that things are basically
back on track.

The books will be new stories involving the third season cast of
characters.

The early books will probably be written by relatively unknown pros or
possibly fans-turned-pro. James Parriott himself was supposedly
selecting the first three authors and book ideas, if memory serves.
Eventually, if the books are a success, it is possible (NOT guaranteed,
only possible) that spec submissions may be considered.

I think the foregoing is accurate, but as I said, if anyone has better
info, please feel free to correct me.

Though I don't know for sure how it works with FK, I have had to do the
following when "auditioning" to write children's books:

Someone, probably with a professional publishing history, most likely submits
a proposal -- outline, synopsis, sample chapters, etc, along with a resume
sort of thing. If it's approved by TPTB, then a contract is worked out, but
TPTB retain the upper hand at all times. If the novel doesn't meet with
their approval, the author is probably left high and dry. A friend of mine
has a published Star Trek novel, so I will ask her how it came to be. She
was pro before then, though.

I think in all likelihood, it would be a pro writer, who is probably a fan in
the first place. Most people who write Trek novels had other things
professionally published before. While I think some fanfic is really
excellent, the writing styles of so-called "pro" fiction and fan fiction are
just different. I'm not saying one is better than the other. Obviously, I
have a great deal of respect for fanfic, since I started out as a "pro"
writer and now I'm obsessed with writing fanfic. ;) And I'm not very good at
it either! It's just two different realms.

I know another woman who started out writing slash Star Trek fanfic about 15
years ago and now has a Trek Encyclopedia published by Harper Collins, has
been nominated for Nebula Awards for her fiction, etc. (I may just be biased
because we're collaborating on a fantasy novel, though. <Shameless Plug!>)
So I think there is a lot of potential and a lot of talent in the pool of
(FK) fanfic writers. Having a publishing history outside of FK would just
endear them to the publisher (and TPTB), because it makes them more
marketable. It means they have what it takes to make money. Publishing, I
have learned, can be a cruel world!

Subject: Re: USA Syndication Rights

The following is my understanding, based on industry practice and such
info as I have. It may not be accurate, but I believe it is (lawyerly
hedging here - it's compulsive, I'm afraid <g>)

Lisa Wolters inquired, re USA syndication rights:

Are those exclusive rights?

Almost certainly yes, for the term of the contract. My guess is that
the contract runs for another two years, based on something Nick Gray
said to me, but that's only a guess.

>And might this mean that we'll have to be grateful to USA somewhere
>down the line for bringing across so many new fans through the reruns
>that we'll eventually get our fourth season?

Could be. Ironic, aint it <g>? Just like Star Trek, way back when,
which failed in first run and made it big in syndication.

Might it also mean that syndies <won't> be airing FK reruns?

They syndies will be running FK reruns of third season until their
contracts are up in either August or September. After that, figure
you'll only see FK on USA (or, more probably, the SciFi Channel) until
the USA contract is up. (And, as I said earlier, only the first 13
episodes of third season are included in the USA package, together with
first and second season. In deference to anyone who actually LIKES the
first half of the third season (if any), I shall refrain from making my
usual sarcastic comments about it. <g>)

> I thought that seasons two and three were being offered at NATPE?

As far as I know, NO FK rights were offered at this year's NATPE. If
anyone has heard differently, please feel free to contradict me.

Subject: KYW-TV Response - PLEASE READ

So I posted this message on Thur at 1:00PM EST while I was home from work
for lunch. (It's great working 5 miles from home and getting an hour
lunch break.) When I got home from work about 5:15 it wasn't in my mail
yet. So I sent a query to the listserv to make sure that I was getting
copies of my messages. Then I had to leave to go bowling. When I got
home from bowling around 9:30PM the message still wasn't in my mail.
Then it suddenly occured to me that there wasn't ANY FK messages in my
mail. (I'm on so many mailing lists and get so much mail that I still
had an incredable amount of messages.) So I wrote to someone on the list
and they weren't getting any mail either.

Ok, so the mail is now starting to dribble in. How long should one wait
to repost? I've watched the times on the ones dribbling in and while
most are current, some of them are after the one that I sent. Normally I
wouldn't repost a message till some listowner came on and said that
messages were lost or they'd eventually show up, but I figure this one
might (I'm still not sure how to read this) be important.

So..... forgive me if it eventually shows up twice.

Sorry, didn't mean to shout at you with the last part of the subject, but
I need help interpreting this letter I received from KYW-TV in Philly today.
I don't think I've heard anything quite like this before, although I am
behind in reading all my lists.

Here's a copy of the letter (typos are mine):

Thank you for your interest in "Forever Knight." We
appreciate your ongoing support of this unique program.

However, the program's distributor, Columbia Television,
has advised us that effective in the fall of this year
Forever Knight will be seen exclusively on the USA Cable
Network. KYW-TV will continue to air the series until that
time.

Thank you again for your thoughts.

I can read a couple of things into this. I leave the more in depth
analysis to those of you better at it.

When USA first started showing FK last Sept., it was on at 8:00PM Mountain

starting in March. Definitely best to check your local listings.

I'd love to talk about it with anybody who'll listen. I've

the scenes between Nick and Nat were very romantic. In the

as being terrified but pretending that everything was OK.

Explanation?????? Hey, Bonnie, this is Forever Knight here, you can't
expect them to really explain anything! :) All we got was "Did you
really think you'd killed me? I'm much too old and powerful." You must
admit, as explanations go it leaves a great deal to be desired. They're

That's THREE TIMES the rating TriStar said they needed to renew the
