VQT newsletter The February VQT newsletter is out and has a "Fans of Forever Knight" announcement box on page 2. It is based on email messages I sent to Dorothy Swanson back in January, including the press reports. The first sentence isn't quite the way I would have expressed it, but at least it makes the point about contacting local stations and Tristar. The text says: Fans of USA's Forever Knight are campaigning to interest syndicators in the show since USA has canceled it. (Columbia/TriStar Television is completing production of the third season episodes that were in doubt.) The organized fans have made a big effort to get the word out to station programmers, through the NATPE convention and an ad in Electronic Media, to ask TriStar for a fourth season. VQTer Mary Anne Espenshade is involved in this campaign and passes along information to VQT. It then gives the web site URL and the PO Box address, for people to get more information. FK is also mentioned in the Members' Forum (excerpts from comments members put on the monthly survey forms): "A unique drama, this USA series is a surprisingly down-to- earth character study. Production expenditures are simple yet effective. Moody lighting and set decoration add to the effect as all-too-human failings and strengths are earnestly explored. At the same time, the immortality issues are dealth with in a sensitive and often tongue-in-cheek manner that further endears the characters to viewers ... They delve brilliantly into the issue of women of the 90's loving men they 'can't have'." (Lisa Sharp, White River, SD) Lisa, are you on this list? Good timing to have a quote by someone else to comment on the show. At least I know one other memeber is voting for FK's quality. Unfortunately, the quotes in the Members' Forum aren't always attributed correctly, the survey forms have a place for membership number and name and sometimes people apparently only put the number, which then can get mistranslated. My name is listed with quotes on four shows, but none of them are my comments! Three of the shows I've never even seen. -- Mary Anne Espenshade mae@a....... This sounds like the X-Files book I found last weekend, called the Complete Guide to The X-Files (or something to that effect). It started with how the concept of the show developed, contained all approiate interviews, had a complete synopsis of every ep. from season 1 through season 3 including locations and ratings. It was really a great book. I wish they could come out with a "Complete Guide to FK." Maybe after the novels? Tam KNIGHTIE SPRABART@a....... There is no need to send test messages to a list in order to determine if you have been set nomail or unsubbed. It is also not neccesary to do this in order to test whether the list is held. Here are the procedures. To find out whether you are nomail or unsubbed, send a message to listserv@p......., with no subject, signature or period at the end of the command. I'm going to have to put the command in quotation marks, or the listserv will bounce this message as a misdirected command. "q forkni-l" There, that's all you need. Just remember not to use the quotation marks. For Fkfic-l and Fkspoilr, substitute the names of the lists. You can send more than one query in the same message, but each must be on a separate line. Please note that you do *not* give your address or name. Doing so will cause the command to bounce. The listserv picks up your address from the header of your message. You will get back either a list of options, which will tell you if you have been set nomail, or a note that you are not subscribed. If either is true and you have not received a note about the matter from the owners, you were nomailed or unsubbed because your listmail was bouncing. Simply reset yourself. The command is "set forkni-l mail", without the quotes, or "set forkni-l digest", without the quotes, if you were on digest. If you were unsubbed, just resubscribe. If you are set to mail, then it's possible that the list is being held at psuvm. To find out, send a message to listserv@p......., with the command "list" Don't use the quotes in an actual command. This will return you a list of all the lists which run at psuvm. If a list is held, there will be a note in its entry. If you're set mail, and there is no hold, the problem is that a node somewhere between you and psuvm isn't forwarding mail. This happens sometimes and there's nothing you or anyone else can do but wait. It's like having the lines down with the phone system. Cousin Lisa -- "That will be trouble." Um... was I accidently set to no mail??? ANYWAY: I wasn't really aware that we were supposed to, like *win* the War, either alone or as a faction. It's been pointed out to me by a very wise woman that the various factions each work in a specific style and that it seems to work out this way in each war. For instance: the Cousins always start strong, but then, as they tend to be very individualistic people, they splinter and go off on their own, committing mindless mayhem to no good advantage--in other words, teamwork is not a great Cousin hallmark. <Surprise, surprise.> That is a pretty good description of what I did in the War, daddy. I had fun, mostly all by myself. A trio of cousins and I flooded Nick's loft with a thousand gallons of Ribena/cows' blood (mixed!), and when the Knighties shrugged that off with a few insults, I hired Jamie to trash the Knightie leader, which she did beautifully. And all I had to do was take a nude photo of Uncle for the nouvelle merc-in-training as payment for the knightie-trashing. Easy-peasy. <gasp, shudder, wipes flashback sweat from brow> Other than that, I spent much of the war writing FK filks and selling virtual FK filk tapes and virtual FK music videotapes to all and sundry from my office in CERK (I used a virtual PO box, so nobody could *get* me). I have quite a tidy little sum of virtual cash in a virtual bank in virtual Toronto. Who says only the Mercs make out in a War? Should the cousins ever get as organized as, say, the Natpackers, we would be very, very, very dangerous. To ourselves, too, not just to all of you. //Closes eyes. I received a lovely note from both syndie and network but was rather disturbed by this note from a programming director. It was a post-script at the end of e-mail...... "Personally, I like both FK and MW. See the Post? Looks like CBS is pulling the plug on Matt Waters, among others." Well, I gave him a quick call to ask which "Post" he was refering to and he said it was in the Washington Post's TV Column on the 22nd. Apparently American Gothic, Matt Waters and several other shows that I don't watch are all on permanent hiatus with the "possibility" of CBS showing some of the unaired episodes over the summer. What about Lacroix telling Nick in first season that "I taught Nero the tune, and together we watched Rome burn." Now Rome was burned around 64 or 65 AD. In season 2 we see Lacroix was brought across in 79 AD. So either Lacroix lied to Nick or perhaps he was musically gifted since very young and did this with Nero when he was mortal. I wasn't on the list for 1st and 2nd season FK so I don't know if this was discussed. At least there haven't been any more historical inaccuracies. In the beginning of the show, if you remember, Nick flew up onto the fire escape and then flew down and got the perp. That triggered Schanke into wandering what's going on with Nick. Then the fact that Nick explained the reason for riding in the trunk - "I don't tan, I don't burn, I implode." Let's see. . . Then Schanke went to the Raven and found the trunk with a picture of Nick, Janette, and LaCroix together. Although Janetted explained to Schanke that they were their 'grandparents' he obviously didn't believe her. Schanke flashbacks and remembers the police finding bottle of blood in Nick's refrig (from Killer Instinct) but Nick had told him that he used it to thicken his oils. Schanke had started a sheet on Nick as John Doe with it giving brief descriptions - Janette, allergic to the sun, *blood* (I forget what else he wrote). He fell asleep at his desk with the sheet sitting out. Vera woke him up to let him know his wife called. She looks at the sheet and tells him that he must be looking for a vampire. Then it clicked and he started doing research. Another clue, from his research, is that the vampire follows his master - Schanke saw that both Janette and Nick have a picture of LaCroix and he also remember Nick telling him that "it's an acquired taste" in regards to listening to "The NightCrawler." Also, from research, he learns that vampires can move very quickly and has incredible strength - he remembers instances of Nick moving very fast and Nick hold a perp out the window and Schanke telling Nick to bring him in because he should think of the paperwork if he drops him. Can't remember what else he found. Have it on video and have to go watch it again.:) Hope that helps.
