Unfortunately, I had a dream where he *wanted* to bite my neck (that part was good), but felt really guilty about it and controlled himself. Well, sort of; he then rushed off to the holodeck to bite a simulated neck. (Sound familiar? But I had this dream a couple of months ago!) Deanna Devoted Knightie and Perkulator ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 22 Feb 1996 15:37:02 +1000 From: Lisa Sutherland-Fraser <lfraser@p.......> Subject: The Kindred I know this is not FK related per se it is vampire related but I've just read that this Spelling Production will air on April 3. Here's some info if you're interested (sorry if you're not): Kindred, an Aaron Spelling thing about clans of vampires in > contemporary San Francisco, airs April 3." And I can add in a few more notes from the last issue of _Entertainment_Weekly_. Spelling wanted it to air after Melrose on Mondays, but it will probably be airing after 90210 on Wednesdays. It will get "that predominantly female audience that's in the mood for this kind of show." They also comment that it has cult following written all over it. C. Thomas Howell was quoted as saying that the show is *not* family hour material. They are making love in one scene, and decapitating someone in the next. Very sexual, very gross. Howell is *not* playing a vampire. He is a homicide detective that is trying to keep the vampires from getting into trouble. He has a sort of truce with Julian Luna (played by Mark Frankel) who is the Prince of San Francisco. John Leekley, the creator of Kindred, is quoted as saying that he went back to "what vampires were always about, which is humans fearing the id set free -- sexuality and violence" rather than funny accents and baring teeth. The article does mention the usual kindred clans of White Wolfs vampires. However, White Wolf is *not* mentioned even once! According to this article, Fox has ordered the 90 minute pilot, and 7 episodes as well. Other than bringing us altogether and giving us damn good entertainment obviously FK has started up some competition! Actually, wars tend to be organized chaos -- the basic plot eventually gets hashed out by the e-mail loop the faction leaders set up -- eventually, we do figure out where we're going. Occassionally, you get more mail fromt eh various factiona nd leader loops than the Fic list! The practical jokes, et al, get organized by asking the faction leader where they or their character is going to be at a given time, then plan accordingly. And you have to ask the faction leader for permission to use that faction's character -- that's one of the big keys to keeping it organized. And some factions (hi cousins!) don't bother to avoid in-fighting -- they get off on it! Knighties tend to be a bit busy defending ourselves from everyone and his cousin to fight amoungst ourselves. <smug, tired look from one of the ones with a target on her back in War 5> As for cross-affiliations -- ahem. The next war is going to be damned interesting, since I, one of the co-leaders of the Knighties, am now an honorary NatPacker as well. > BTW, who is the leader/organizer for the Knighties, Natpackers, > and/or Nick&NatPackers? Has that been decided? It generally gets hashed out in the faction when the planning for the war starts. Currently, me and Cath Boone are co-leading the Knighties -- I have no clue who's in charge anywhere else. Which reminds me, any Knighties who want to be in the mailing loop (hell, no, this is *not* pre-war sword rattling, this is me looking for people to hit up for stuff for the web page, I can't deal with another war yet!), e-mail me -- address is in the .sig. If I'm mistaken, please let me know -- privately.) The worry about the cranes being connected with Hiroshima prompted me to speak to my friend Tomomi, who is Japanese, though she went to high school in Hawaii, and is coming to college here in Washington. Tomomi says that this is a misconception, probably fostered by the American media's myopic view of Japan. In fact, she says that at the national baseball championships it is customary for fans to send properly assembled cranes to their team. What better parallel for us? In other news, my syndie (KAYU Spokane) promptly responded to my latest mailing, and though it wasn't terribly encouraging, I will type out the parts of it that I'm clinging to for hope. I edit a little publication for my university living group, so of course I devoted my entire Editor's Page in the first issue of the semester to SOS FK. Our print run is only 75, but I made up another 15 for the benefit of the TriStar, Sony and USA mail rooms. One copy went to my local syndie, and it looks like they actually *read* it, from their first paragraph: "Thank you very much for your letter. You have a very cool signature. I would also like to thank you for sending me an issue of The Even Steven. The articles provided very enjoyable reading. Please extend my personal best wishes to Becky Ives and her fiance on their recent engagement." Hope, so quickly dashed! From here, they degenerate into what is clearly a form letter: "as a fan of good television programs," "very interesting show," "performed well in syndication." Sheesh. I know this is form-letter material, because my friend Victoria (not yet an FK-er, but I'm working on it) got the same response to the letter I convinced her to write. How am I deriving hope from this? Well, doesn't the *existence* of a form letter indicate the *need* for a form letter to stave off pesky fans? Or am I reaching? They continue, "because CTTD may not carry the show past Fall 1996, our station will not air the show when our contract ends in September. We are not canceling the show unilaterally... simply completing our obligations. If you are associated with a letter-writing campaign to save the show, I wish your efforts well. However, I suggest that you please do not write to the stations carrying the show. If you want your message to have effect, please write to the producers and distributors of the show." They then insert Feltheimer's address, only with FK's title in place of his name. Does anyone know how I ought to take this? They do manage to make me feel guilty for bugging them... <sigh> ... and the TV schedule for this weekend says they're pre-empting FK *again*... ***** Amy R. r.......@w....... If the 3rd season were all that terrible my guess is that new blood would take the form of kidnap victims tied to a chair and force fed 1st and 2nd season on tape. As always, remember the source. All right, that brings me to the next natural question: Does anyone have a list of the birthdays of all the "regulars" of the show? (Mr. Wyn Davies, Ms. Disher, Ms. Duchene,... you know what I mean.) If this is answered somewhere, roast me slowly over an open flame. -- Lost in the Shadows, Dr Funke (mff@h.......) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 22 Feb 1996 08:38:12 -0500 From: Jamie Melody Randell <immajer@p.......> Subject: GNP/Crescendo: Web Page? Thing two: thanks to everyone who offered to send me the fiction I missed; but thanks to our dearest Jasmine, I now know how to retrieve the fiction from the listserv *all by myself*. Who writes them--fans? Professional writers? I assume they are stories based on the FK characters, but are they new stories or expanded versions of TV eps? Do fanfic stories ever make it to novels (some of them are certainly good enough!) Somebody fill me in, please. Thanks! Just my idle thoughts on the matter. Yes, but can you honestly say that you *liked* such episodes as Trophy Girl, and Outside the Lines? (The 2 worst eps of history IMO) And how about Let No Man Tear Asunder. Sure the last 8 or so eps have been great, (as soon as USA was out of the picture with the exception of Night In Question and Sons Of Belial... oh and I think Fever but I'm not sure.) This season's gotten a lot better, but it still has it's nasty memories. Ravenette, Immortal Beloved CO-CFW for Evil MacLeod Richie Reservist, Janette92@a....... As far as infighting, there's some of that; but, you don't Lane, I'm sorry but that is definitely not true. There are surprises, but there is also tons of e-mail between the faction leaders in the leader loop and between each individual faction loop. Perhaps the Mercs didn't have a faction loop and each did their own thing, but there really is a framework to the wars. I hung with the Ravenettes during the last War and we discussed most everything we did, both for suggestions on how to make the attack better and for problems. Organization and timing was a major factor of the last War (at least certain segments of it) and I anticipate that it will be even more important in the next war with more and more people wanting to participate. It is especially important when the War starts winding up and we are all supposed to settle down and party hardy. For example, in the last War Susan Garrett, and then I, contacted Jenny Hayes, the Chief Warmonger, before doing something as major as kicking the Cousins out of the Raven. In fact, I believe we even contacted the Cousin leader and checked with her, but I'm not 100% sure of that. The faction leaders don't tell the rest of their faction about "attacks" that are supposed to be sneak attacks, but we check with the leaders for major plot contradictions and timing. Sometimes it can be as simple as "Will LaCroix be at the Raven around dusk on November 4th?" Only the faction leader can say that for sure. Also, when Cousin Candice and I were having "fights" back and forth over the Raven and with LaCroix, we e-mailed each other all the time to coordinate attacks. I know this is a serious reply to what was probably supposed to be a joke, but Wars do take timing. -- Vicki - vmerrima@i....... Nick "What are you doing here?" I spoke with Ginjer at Leapcon this past weekend and she confirmed that the books are still coming out. Incidentally, even if FK is canceled that doesn't mean the books would be, too. Berkely puts out the Quantum Leap novels and they are a major success, three years after cancellation of the series, with over a million copies in print. Let's hope the same happens with the FK ones.
