Gloom and doom is not called for just yet. When Star Trek returned for its 3rd season, I was starting my freshman year at Ohio State. Almost invariably I would have the dorm tv all to myself every week; I never missed Star Trek because anyone wanted to watch something else. Not that many people watched the original series compared to the numbers who consider themselves fans today, certainly not that many women. We will have to get behind whatever format the series becomes stripped--syndicated, USA, or other network--and make sure potential fans know about one of the best series ever made. Remember, we'll have *1st season* eps to being them across with--no more coaxing newbies into watching hopeless 3rd season hours ignoring the central characters, and explaining that the series really isn't like this...no, people will be able to see just how good FK could be. Should this scenario hold true, the *next* campaign to being FK back will have an even larger fan base. Think about that. Certainly this is reason enough to stay on-list. While the show is the catalyst to our conversations - being a fan of a TV show has always been about the people you meet (even in the pre internet world). While the show may discontinue production I see no reason why we have to discontinue being members of the list. Ok - maybe on topics will become a little broader - but I do not see this as a problem. I have become friends with people on this list - and with one person in particular we talk about far more than just FK. So, my point is, that while I came here because of the show - I continue to be here because of the people on the list. In addition I beleive we have 70 or so episodes that have been made - I never dicussed any of the first season or first few of the second season on this list - and I suspect I am not alone. Starting at the begining of that 70 and taking one a week - whew - it could take awhile!!!! In addition there will always be fan fiction and upcomming novels (which I have on good authority are still being written - not from TBTB but from the person writing one - I can say no more - not because I am being criptic but because I promised:-) I had a thought - would it be a good idea to write to the company publishing the novels and illustrate our support of the idea???!!! My point is that fandom is more about the people you meet than the show itself and if the people do not go anywhere then the list will still have the things I signed on for. On a brighter note - no one will screw up and post a spoiler wrong:-) Talk to ya all later, Shanda ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 21 Feb 1996 17:59:00 -0500 From: colin paddock <Claudius@n.......> Subject: Re: Fallen Idol in DC/Legal Question other businesses etc. received letters containing >their original mail, with a letter telling them that Tristar did not >value them enough to be bothered. I had sweatshirts created for the Knighties and am now offering to order these shirts for anyone else interested. These had previously been offered to the Knighties on the special Knightie loop that Perri keeps. I've had inquiries from folks who saw the shirts and liked them, so I thought I'd try another run. I cannot do this indefinitely though. The shirts are 85/15, white with jade and navy stripes on the collar, cuffs and waistband. Sorry, they don't come in other colors. The logo is on the front left breast of the shirt. It's a stylized Toronto skyline with the words Forever Knightie and the list address. I can order any sizes needed, but I need an order of at least 24 before I can go back to my vendor. This means I need 24 actual checks. I can't afford to order shirts up front and then get stuck with them. I still have CERK t-shirts. I do not make a profit on these shirts. The shirts run very large. As a reference, those of you who saw me wearing the shirt in Toronto this past weekend saw a size Large. I usually order XL's, because I like them big, but the large was more than enough. I also washed the shirt already, so it shrank a little, but not much (just don't set the dryer on high). The shirts are really nice, if I do say so myself. Some other list members have already ordered theirs so you can ask them if you like them. If you would like to order a shirt, please contact me via private e-mail at feden@m........ DO NOT POST TO THE LIST. Jaye will get mad at me and she was so nice to let me do this in the first place. How does a deadline of March 15th sound to everyon? The prices are as follows: S,M,L,XL = $35 XXL = $38 Shipping is about $3.00 each. If you order multiple shirts please include extra postage. I don't know what shipping is to Canada. I believe I'll have them shipped out by the vendor so I don't have to lug boxes to the post office. I didn't see Susan Schaefer's original post, so I hope I'm not grossly misattributing Susan's words when she says the novel deal is "off"-- but... when I spoke with Ginjer Buchanan, the Executive Editor of Science Fiction & Fantasy at Berkeley Publishing two weeks ago, the FK novel deal was still on. Three novels are included in the first deal, with one proposal approved so far (not sure who got it, but I heard-- unsubstantiated rumour-- that it was Susan Sizemore, better known for her time-travel historical romances). The first novel was due to be published this summer, but everything is going <far> more slowly on the approval process than first anticipated, so I believe they're now planning on a publishing date of early 1997. Apparently the main reason for the delay is that each novel proposal has to go through a rather complicated set of approvals, with Ginjer vetting the first round, followed by licensor approvals at the TriStar and Paragon levels, with Jim Parriott getting the final 'yea' or 'nay' on each proposal. regards, 88888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888 Karin Welss kwelss@u....... Laura, I believe the name of the movie you are looking for is "To Die For 2". It's available on video tape. It's a sequel to another movie by with another actor in the same role. Despite the fact that the two vampires in the file vanished in puffs of smoke. Actually one was stake and the other walked into the sun. The interesting thing about this movie and the prequel is that with the exception of the lead actor which was taken over by Michael Praed, all the other actors from the previous movie came back as the same characters. Do a search on FOREVER KNIGHT. That will bring up a lot of different references one of which is the german web site. Oh. ObFK: You Know you are waay into Forever Knight too much when you hear the television talking about conquistadors and you half expect Vachon to show up. They used the pretense that they were responding to letters from viewers. I think we all know what a load of "El Toro Crapo Grande" that is. Just got my cable guide for March. It shows FK back at it's original Monday night slot and on Thursday nights at 11:00 (Mountain time). I hope it's right! (Frankly, I have my doubts about this one...) I don't mind the title "Dame" although for some reason it seems to imply *age* to me. Being one of the elders on the list, I suppose I could carry the title with grace (not to imply the younger Knighties couldn't if they wanted to). Question: While it is quite acceptable to declare ourselves Knighties, is it proper to declare ourselves *knights*? On another note, I for one intend to continue lurking on the list for a long time to come. You people brighten my day. Besides, if FK goes away for good (God forbid!), where else would I get my daily fix? BTW, I really like the idea of a story/script of the week to discuss. One way or another we'll keep FK alive! (I'm off-topic in the beginning, but, hey, bear with me.) Here's the deal. I'm on a committee that is interested in bringing in a actor from one of the Star Trek series to K-State next year for a lecture. (Personally, I'm holding out for Brent Spiner. Helllooo, Mr. Data! ;9 ) In conjunction with the lecture, we're looking into holding a mini convention as well. Unfortunately, no one on the committee has ever had the opportunity to go to one of these things. So, I figured, why not pick the brains of those of you out there lucky enough to be able to attend? Tell me (privately, o' course), what do you like to see at conventions? (OK, I mean besides NB or GWD)(or AP, or SK for that matter) We're thinking of door prizes, blooper reels, merchandise, films, you get the picture. Thanks in advance for the info! On to more important things: What is the name of the piece Nick is playing on the piano in the 1st season ep, I Will Repay? It sounds familiar, but I can't place it. Last day of filming. <sniff> But only for now, right? (Hope springs eternal. I mean, the execs at Tri Star or USA can't outsmart us. And they certainly won't out last us. All together, can we say, 'persistence'?) (OK, maybe 'bloody-minded obstinate refusal to allow FK to go' is more accurate, but 'persistence' is easier to get several hundred people to say in sync.) And as for this list, of course this lurker will remain on! Cousin Beck <rewil@k.......> FW for Darius & Methos Blue Blaze Irregular 100% Abnormal.
