Subject: A fond farewell

Hi listpals,

Just wanted to say I'll miss you this week. I'm on nomail until next
Sunday (2/25) because . . . well, Jim Carroll is coming to Bowling Green
on Tuesday (2/20) and I'm responsible for him, then Thursday I'm off to
Louisville for the 20th Century Lit conference.

Thanks, everyone who shared the great secret of How to Go NoMail and then
Return to Mail Again. (Hmmm . . . why am I having a YKYBWTMFK experience
right now?)

One more thing: will some kind soul volunteer to send me (off list) any
really big news on the list while I'm gone? For example, if USA and
TriStar et al. suddenly decide to unkill FK, I'd like to know! I promise
to anxiously wish to belong to the faction of the person who agrees to
keep me posted!

Farewell . . . parting is such sweet sorrow.

Cassie
(Knightie wishing she was a Cousin)

" I think Schanke is just a person with a very secure world view, and enough
contact with people who aren't in touch with (real) reality that he can brush
off whatever doesn't fit into his personal cosmology."

There was a lengthy discussion last year about "What if Schanke figured out
Nick was a vampire?" ( watch "Close Call" for insight) I always felt he'd
prefer not to know because, as the above quote states, it wouldn't fit his
view of reality.
Also unless pressured, I don't hink Nick would ever tell him for the same
reasons. Such information would ruin their relationship. Nick liked Schanke
because he treated Nick like a normal ( mortal) human. But that's all idle
speculation now isn't it?

What about Tracy? Never mind her ridiculous pairing with Vapid er, Vachon .
I don't think Tracy knowing Nicks' a vampire would change their relationship
at all, because there isn't one!

I can't believe I'm psychoanalyizing fictional characters. Reality check
please, garcon!

I hate alliteration but it was a clever subject title. From the official FK
press packet :
" Born in Baltimore MD, Bass studied acting at The London Academy of Music
and Dramatic Art. He also trained with Ecole Jacques Lacoq in Paris, The
Vancouver Academy of music and Second City. He settled in Toronto in 1987
appearing in "Airwolf", "21 Jump Street" and "Bordertown".
He earned a nomination for the Vancouver Jesse Award for supporting
preformance in the musical "Angry Housewives".
 There you go.

Read it, thought it was good, but the ending kinda bit (no pun

Y'all might wanna also check out the "Wings in the Night" trilogy by
Maggie Shayne. I thought that they were excellent (had a nice
scentific explanation for vampires, too. Also, _Kiss of Darkness_ is
really good (about an angst-ridden vampire who wants to become mortal,
sound familiar again?) I can't remember the author of this one but all
four are published by Siloette Shadows.

Not to be outdone:

Top Ten Reasons to Become a Mercenary in the Next War

10. You don't have to play favorites - just spread mayhem impartially.
9. We're the only faction without an avatar--so no one checks up on
you when you misbehave. Or behave. Whatever.
8. Shiny pretty guns. Filled with Holy Water. :)
7. Direct line to CERK. Get any record you want played.
6. Our AV setup makes CURRENT AFFAIR look like amateurs.
5. Your happy fellow Mercs, who have recently been released from their
detention facilities and vacation spas, will show you around
Toronto. For a small fee, of course.
4. Chocolate! Jewels! Cars! And oh yes, Visa accepted.
3. Lacroix, on tape, in a silk bikini. $39.95. The power to put him
        into a rage...
2. Nick, on tape, in drag. $99.95. The power to make him look really,
        really, silly...

And the #1 reason to become a Merc---

1. Parties, parties, parties!!!!

Let's see if I _can_ come up with 10 reasons to be a Valentine...

10. Lacroix and Nat are both smarter than Nick.
9. Lacroix gave her white roses and a candlelight dinner for
Valentine's Day. Nick didn't get her anything, not even a cheesy
        card.
8. Lacroix is more faithful than Nick. He's only loved one other
woman, _and_ he remembers her name!
7. Whatever else you can say about Lacroix, he's not conflicted. If he
wanted Natalie, nothing like guilt or angst or fear or personality
problems would stand in his way of being with her.
6. Nat's not afraid of Lacroix. She's not impressed by Lacroix. And
when necessary, she'll take him down a peg or two, instead of
whining, pouting, or accusing him of being a monster.
5. Hotter chemistry. (Okay, this is debatable)
4. No conflict between the doctor/patient relationship and romantic
        relationship.
3. Natalie's sick of French. Latin is so much more stimulating...
2. They both have slightly dark senses of humor. Whereas Nick has
almost no sense of humor whatsoever.

and the number one reason to be a Valentine...

1. Nick and Natalie are neeeeever gonna happen. Nope. Not ever.

Denver, Colorado folks were great. They even came out in a snowstorm for a

No joke: Your school sends out Flowergrams on V-Day. You buy one for a
fellow Forever-Knight addict and write the message out as this:

"Ma Ch=E8re Coll=E8ne:

Having recently suffered the disappearance of my daughter and a bout with a
near-fatal disease, I now come to appreciate the fragility of this immortal
life. I now seek to share it, to create a companion worthy to share it
with me. I am drawn to you, to your innocence, to your smile. I invite
you to share eternity with me, that your beauty will be preserved
throughout the ages.

Soon,

Lucien LaCroix."

Man, did she freak out! She gave me the biggest hug and went around *all
day* showing it to unknowing friends and classmates ("Look! LaCroix!
*sigh*"). I think she scared an awful lot of people.

Also: Has anyone seen the production of Ibsen's *Ghosts* with Kenneth
Branaugh in it? We watched it in Humanities and Colleen's and my first
thoughts were: "My god! It's LaCroix!!!" KB looks reeeeeally like a young
LC. Especially in the scene when he hugs his mother by bending down over
her neck.

Well, Colin, I think the fact that you quoted Lacroix is a good indication
that you're already a Cousin but just haven't labeled yourself as such (yet).
:)

A few hints:

Call yourself a Cousin if you watch each episode just waiting for those few
minutes that Lacroix is on the screen. Call yourself a Cousin if you find
yourself going, "Yeah, I know what ya mean!" whenever the Nightcrawler speaks
on the air. Call yourself a Cousin if you think a vampire should enjoy or at
least ackowledge being a vampire. Call yourself a Cousin because *I* say so!
 Muahahaha! ;)

Y'know, I think you two may just have come up with a *very good* list-project.

So, I'm going to throw out a plan. Anybody who objects, feel free to debate
its merits on-list. Anybody who wants in, *private* e-mail me, and I'll keep
track.

OK, boys & girls, how many of you know how to fold paper cranes? Hands?
Hmmm...

OK, how many of you are willing to *learn*? You can get origami books out of
any decent library (not to mention bookstores), and you don't *have* to use
the expensive origami paper; any reasonably thin paper will do. Wrapping
paper for example. It's not that hard; my aunt taught me when I was in first
grade. Hands?

Right. Everybody who held up your hand: Fold 10 paper cranes. (if you're
just learning, do a few practice ones first) Be sure to *wish for a fourth
season of Forever Knight* as you fold each one. (basic sympathetic magic
principle) *Then* box up those 10 cranes, carefully, so they arrive intact,
and mail them to:

Sony Corporation of America
Sony Pictures Ent. & Music
Norio Ohga-Chairman
[Address removed]

and tell the Chairman, *very politely*, that you folded these 10 cranes while
wishing for a fourth season of Forever Knight, and would they please
reconsider their decision to cancel the show.

At the very least, having paper cranes mailed to him (her?) cannot be an
everyday event, here in America, at least. And by mentioning the old Japanese
"1000-cranes" tradition, we make clear that we have at least a passing
knowledge of their culture, and respect *their* traditions.

And having 1000 "wishing cranes" arrive on the chairman's desk (from 100
people!) will make a statement about the support this show has among the fans.
It might even set up a subconscious itch, that *could* result (after all, we
fulfilled the requirements, right? <g>) in the show being put back into
production.

And if we get 200 (300? 400?) people willing to fold cranes, we can target the
other folk listed as heads of Sony USA. If we get 500, we can target the
folks in Japan, but let's start with the 'locals'....

Comments? Objections? Origami paper? <g>

I was wondering how much money would it take to buy the 1,2, and
up to the present date of the 3rd?? It's not a commitment to buy but I
would still like to know.

Channel 50 will *probably* show it on Sunday at 3 pm - that's the usual
back up spot when Saturday night is full of sports. Give them a call on
Tuesday (000-000-0000) and ask them - that's what I'm going to do.

If I knew what CERK was, I might agree with you.

Cousins don't have to be *friendly*. What a mortal imperfection. *vbeg*

Hi,

This feels weird...I'm usually the one _answering_ questions like
this, but...does anyone out there have the mailing addresses of
Entertainment Tonight and Extra, or know where I could find them?)

Thanks!

*sigh* Things like these induce angst in Cousins...

Good for when you are really ill, or recovering from surgery = brainless.

Silk Stalkings... hmm, Miami Vice with more "babes".

I remember it, and miss it.

>5. We'll stop airing awful, edited B-movie skin flicks on Friday nights.

Wait a second here! There is some real entertainment value here. Those
flicks aren't even worthy of B rating, and thus are most titillating.

Delurking for the moment; just a quick note in response to the above.
As a midwesterner myself (I live 30 mile away from Quincy, which is close
in the midwest), I was thrilled by this response. Anyway, for the
prodigy users I saw a commercial saying you could mail or something KHQA
at KHQA99A on prodigy. I realize now after the recent developments this
may not be of much use, but you never Know.
