Call your local talk radio, write a letter to your local paper, get hold of a
"people's adovcate" columnist or reporter and tell them about the big old
nasty corporation that doesn't REALLY care about the little guy (that's us)
who buys their products, or won't buy their products if they keep this up.

This is no longer about keeping a show on the air it's about real anger at
being ignored. Without us you don't have no stinkin ratings. Another angle is
how the big bad corp. is killing off a show, putting people out of work and
p***ing off viewers and guess what ? they'll still make money off of it.
Corporate America , you got to love it. NOT. Phhhhhtt!!

TPTB. I'm sick and tired of being told that my voice and my opinion doesn't
count.
I hope that's an acceptable quote. Thank you Sharon for saying in so few
words my long rambling post only touched on. This campaign should be of
interest to the press because it demostrates the anger and energy of TV
viewers. But no one is listening, why?
This is about people being ANGRY because we have so little say in what is
being fed to us. No wonder voters are starting a third political party. Time
for us to create a new ratings system? this new information also proves that
FK is not being yanked because of ratings. It's an ego thing. I say we hit
their ego hard, the rotten &^$%#.

Subject: Writing to Sony (Long post!)

Several people have mentioned the idea of approaching Sony (the
owner of Columbia/TriStar) next in our campaign to save FK. If
we do, there may be a specific approach we want to take.

Sony is in MAJOR financial difficulties. Their relationship
with Columbia/TriStar has not be a happy one. (See notes at
bottom for more info.) Due to financial strain, Sony is trying
to cut costs/save money particularly as it is related to
Columbia/TriStar.

If Sony is cutting our show to save money, we must convince them
that getting rid of our show will NOT save them money and may
actually end up costing them money. The very nature of our group
may allow us to do that fairly easily.

Those of us on the list-serv, on the usenet, and who access the
web are most definately users of telecommunications, computer
hardware, and computer software -- commodities with which
Sony thinks it CAN make money. We must introduce them (nicely)
to the possibility that the cancelation of a tv show popular
among so many technology users would disinfranchise part of their
intended buying market. (Of course, pointing out that FK does
OK in the ratings wouldn't hurt either!)

I suggest if (when) we write to Sony, we don't just gush about
how great the show is and how much we're going to miss it.
We've got to also point out that FK viewers are also very
technology oriented. We are their intended buying market
and they really should try to make us happy.
Bottomline: an investment in us will end up making them money!

Oh well. End of theory. What do you folks think of this approach?
Good? Bad? Do you care?

Chana

SOME INFO ON WHY THE SONY AND COLUMBIA/TRISTAR RELATIONSHIP ISN'T HAPPY
* Sony invested $5 billion to buy Columbia/TriStar back in 1989.
Industry experts feel Sony overvalued Columbia/TriStar by
3.4 billion dollars (IOW: they overpaid BIGTIME)
*  In November 1994, Sony took a $2.7 billion dollar "write-off"
and reported a second quarter loss of 3.2 billion dollars
* In December 1995, Sony fired the President of their American
branch, Michael Schulhof. (He's the guy who overpaid for
Columbia/TriStar resulting in the money problems.)
* In January 1996, Sony declared a New Corporate Structure
     dedicated to creating "a more market-driven, market-responsive
company". One of the company's restructuring measures was to
create new companies and groups for entering into informational
technology and telecommunications businesses that represent
a merging of AV and computer technologies.

(Ain't it amazing what you can find out in a half an hour on the net!)

Subject: Bringing another person across

Hi all,
I wanted to relate to you the most experience I've had in bringing someone
across.
I'm taking a Folklore class my college and in it I met a girl named Heather.
Now, she's into White Wolf, Mercedes Lackey, Anne MacCaffrey(sp?), Elf Quest,
yada, yada, yada...so I thought I might get her interested in FK.
It worked. I did get her interested in FK.
One day over lunch, I described FK, the characters, the plots, the actors,
the list, the fic list, the WAR's and the fact that Tri-Star is trying to get
rid of it and us. She was interested to say the least.
Today in class, I loaned her my tapes of the first season eps.
*NOW*, before anyone asks, I *CAN NOT* make copies of my tapes because I
don't have a second VCR, my copies were sent to me. (I put some of this
statement in caps because I don't want any misunderstandings. )
She was quite excited and couldn't wait to get home to watch them. I do
believe we have another convert!!!
After she watches those tapes, I'll fill her in on the the latest on the
SOS Fk front.

That's all.
Relax, we *will* save FK.

Amy D.
z_dentonam@t.......

Oh, yes, one more thing. She's interested in the WAR's but she's Knightie
until further notice. So, Swabbies...er, Cousins, stay *away* from her. :)
(I don't think I have to worry though, she'll take one look at LaCroix and that
bright yellow hair in Dark Knight and start to laugh.)

Q-Tip! Q-Tip! LaCroix is a Q-Tip! >:-)

Subject: Philadelphia Syndie Update

I finally got through to my local syndie station again. I talked once
more to Naomi Adams, the Program Coordinator at WKYW, channel 3 in the
Philadelphia area. (She was the one who received our Syndie Appreciation
Day gift basket -- this might help explain why she's been very friendly
so far!)

She affirmed that her station *did* ask for a fourth season of FK from
TriStar at NATPE, as she said they would. It was nice to confirm this!
She also said that as far as she knows TriStar has not yet made a final
decision about offering a fourth season. (I was *not* about to disabuse
her of this notion, since I don't want the station to give up yet on
another season!)

I'm preparing to send the station a letter with copies of the EM ad,
article, and the NATPE brochure. I thought it wouldn't hurt to let them
know what a sophisticated, well-educated, and loyal fan group the show
has. Ms. Adams didn't mention seeing the NATPE 7 in Las Vegas, but then
again I didn't ask, so who knows.

Well, that's my Philly update. Hopefully whoever is keeping track of the
stations who've asked for a 4th season will see this message and take
note. I can't keep track of who's in charge of what anymore!

SHREW CARPOOLS: As a reminder, if you're interested in going to Ger's
performance in "Taming of the Shrew" in Toronto at the end of April,
e-mail me with the word SHREW in the subject line and I'll let you know
who else in your region is planning to go. Once we know what day(s)
we'll be going, we can contact hotels in Toronto and ask about group
rates. So far there are 23 *possible* attendees (not counting the
Torontonians who don't need to carpool). We might want to reserve a
place for a big group dinner, too. I'm thinking that the spaghetti
restaurant used in "The Fix" would be very appropriate! :^)

Now as to the debate over whether I should be a Cousin or a Vaquero ... that's
my problem ... I cant decide! Argh. Can't I combine the two? or do I have
to keep my multiple personalities thing? When are we gonna have another war?
Cousin ... Vaquera ... Cousin ... Vaquera ... *argh*
By the way, I really *am* a "Toni" so, Toni H., we must be related. And ...
I can be dangerous too, just ask my gaming vampire associates ("You may call
me Rupert the Malkavian") uh oh. I wanted to be called Lucien Vachon, but they
wouldnt let me get away with it. It's a real problem you know separating all
the vampire things.

ObFK: Can vampires get Xeroxed (i mean, with either assumption that they
can or cannot be photographed)???? This thought sprang to mind when some-body
xeroxed his face for me as a Valentine's day gift (gee, *thanks* Ben).

Ok, my sister is going to meet with one of the managers of our local
syndie tonight (a friend) and while she is there convincing him to ask
for season four/protest its cancellation to TriStar, she is also going to
be requesting use of/help from his press contacts. (She will make the
same request of other people at the station...she used to work there and
is friends with many people)

Hopefully they have e-mail, because I don't have access to a fax machine
(I am in NYC, and when I say "our local syndie" I mean at *home* in CA)
so I can't send either my sister or the station anything in any way other
than snail mail. So, if anyone thinks there is something that she should
have before she meets with him tonight (she's leaving the house about
6:00 PST for school, and is going over after that) and you can fax it to
her, e-mail me privately ASAP (she does have the press release and the
latest info regarding TriStar yanking us around, which I think should be
enough for now, but someone may have an idea) and I'll give you the fax
number.

BTW, for the list members in Northern California (even if you don't get
the station) you might want to consider writing, just to emphasize the
point. They air the show at 9:00pm Saturday (better than KOFY's airing at
11:00!) If you can please do:

Another source that may be useful is Bram Dijkstra's book: Idols of
Perversity: Fantasies of Feminine Evil in Fin-de-Siecle Culture, Oxford
University Press, 1988.

You might also check the work of artists Edvard Munch and Arnold Boeklin. I
know that Bram Stoker had a brother who produced a piece that may be titled
The Vampire, but I have not been able to find out what his first name was.

Why not? In the FK universe, vampires photograph nicely: one of
the things Schanke came across while he was snooping in the Raven in
Close Call was a studio-type portrait of Nick, Janette, and LaCroix from

I would like to write an FK crossover with two interesting low profile
shows that both featured the supernatural, but both have already been
cancelled, and I only saw a few episodes of each. If anyone could provide
me with (or point me to) more information about them, I would be very
grateful. These shows are:

1.) SHEWOLF OF LONDON - the darkly humorous story of Randi Lawrence, a
lovely American lycanthrope seeking a cure for her condition. She is
aided on her quest by Ian Matheson, an eccentric young (and somewhat
lecherous) mythology professor who is still lives with his parents
(and his Aunt, AND a young cousin considering a career as a weird-
ness hunter). He is still hasn't recovered from the discovery that
some of the myths he taught were actually TRUE. They have encounter-
ed succubi, been possessed by the spirits of great works of litera-
ture, been chased by a headless spectre in a grotty little cursed
village, and solved murders at SCI FI conventions.

2.) SHADES OF L.A. - After a near death experience, L.A.P.D. homicide
detective Michael(?) Burke(?) finds himself the confidant of Shades,
spirits only he can see or hear, who seek his help in completing
unfinished business on earth so they can pass on to the next plane.
Some of them aren't COMPLETELY honest. The only other one who knows
about them is his girlfriend, a professional(?) psychic. You can
guess how most of the shades GOT that way. (I only saw three and a
half episodes of this show over six months ago, so I'm not sure of
    ANYTHING about it.)

You can see the possibilities. "SH{EWOLF}|{ADES} OF T.O." ?

She's definately vascillating too much to be a cousin, almost (but not
quite) enough to be a Knightie.

So, Toni *M*, do you have a thing for blonds? Do you tend not to comb or
cut your hair frequently? Do you <blink> (you may have to ask your friends
if they have noticed). Do you fight fights on the side of the underdog? If
yes to these probing questions, you *may* be a vaquera at heart.

The only reason me and my sister came up with was that Tristar really wants
to kill FK. That way it's a tax write off and they don't have to deal with
all of us anymore.

Any opinions?

Subject: CHARITY: The Latest 2/14

Hi All :)

The latest and greatest on the Friends of Forever Knight Group
Charity Drive follows :)

I'm sending off the second batch of checks to PAF tomorrow and will
be sending subsequent batches approximately every two to three
weeks until the end of March. Our current total (including funds
already turned over to PAF) is:

                                $8,546.50
{{{{{virtual chocolates, champagne and hugs to all
                        you wonderful people}}}}}

Since people are currently interested in getting as much attention
as possible, if you're writing a letter to TPTB or the sponsors,
you might want to mention our current total and also mention that
this sum includes donations from 5 countries:
USA [35 states - don't know if we have people in the
other 15 - AK, AR, DE, IA, ID, KS, ME, MN, ND, NE,
                        NM, NV, OK, SD, WY]
Here's another mission for everyone, if you know someone
who lives in one of these states and watches the show,
could you see if they'd donate a dollar or something,
just so I can check that state off my list? Saying, and
having definitive proof, that FK is loved and supported
by fans in all 50 states as well as abroad would
certainly add a lot of impact to our discussions with
                media outlets ;)
        Canada [4 provinces]
        Germany
        South Africa
        Australia

It's wonderful to see some many people embracing something in such
a positive way -- wonderful karma, you know.

And, since many of us are feeling a little down and stressed out
lately, here's a nice little poem (well, half of one anyway) to
cheer you up.

"Opportunity"
<snip first verse>
No chance? Why, the world is just eager
For things that you ought to create.
Its store of true wealth is still meager,
Its needs are incessant and great;
Don't worry and fret, faint hearted,
The chances have just begun.
For the best jobs haven't been started,
The best work hasn't been done.

everyone that is doing that or involved in it please post info regarding it
to the list. It seems that there are people out there who would like to go
but don't know of anyone in their state or region that is going.<<

I'm planning a trip, hopefully for April 25, from Chicago to Toronto through
Detroit. I currently have about 8-10 people who have indicated an interest
or committed to going. I live very close to Midway Airport (Southwest
Airlines is their biggest carrier, and very reasonably priced) and the
Tri-State Expressway. I'm hoping to rent a van, but if there are more people
and another willing driver, we can carpool! I have some room for folks to
leave cars at the house, and will be willing to pick up warm bodies along the
route (NW Indiana, S. Michigan, SW Ontario). I will be working also on
getting hotel arrangements and tickets for either Friday April 26 or Sat.
27th performance of TotS.

BTW, I will probably need a definite yes or no from interested parties by the
end of Feb. at the latest because of the need to make the hotel reservations
soon!!

Someone had an idea for sending back subscription cards to Entertainment
Weekly. On my way home last night I bought the current issue, thinking I'd
do just that. Who's on the cover but Dean Cain (I loved it when Forever
Knight was on right after Lois & Clark; they compliment each other so well)
and a "Guide to TV's Smartest Hunks."
Now I know that Nick's not always real smart and we'd all love to slap him
sometimes, but I thought what if Entertainment Weekly received 7 or 8 hundred
letters this week from women asking "Where was Forever Knight's Geraint Wyn
Davies in your list of TV hunks?"
It might make an impression

Subject: Asking syndies

Hi folks:

I just read Felicia Bollin's post that mentioned that the New York station WPIX
has asked TriStar for a 4th season. I was surprised (but glad) to read this,
because WPIX is NOT currently showing FK--they stopped when USA took over. I
get WPIX on cable in Upstate New York, so I'm going to write a letter to WPIX
thanking them for doing this.
Two questions: 1) Can somebody tell me to whom specifically at WPIX I should
write? and 2) Does anybody have advice on how I should approach talking to a
local station about requesting FK even though they have not aired it for years
(as a CBS affiliate, they did air the Crimetime After Primetime FK)?

Thanks!

I don't recommend duplicating a copyrighted work such as Nick Knight. It's
still available, anyway, and not even expensive: I paid $14.95 for mine. I've
e-mailed Heather with the particulars and can forward them to anyone else who
has a question about it.

But isn't that different from *killing* a child? It's true that some
people don't like or value children, but those people don't usually
purposely kill children as a vampire purposely kills humans. Those humans
that *do* kill children are usually either disturbed or heartless. So are
vampires disturbed or heartless then in killing humans? They were once
humans themselves, after all.

so... that would be LaCroix=good (just feeding, sipping from the
Vietnamese children in CRCH, bringing across Daniel in FF), Nick=bad
(killing off 50% of his vampiric offspring). Right? [ECG]

Personally, I had always though it was much kinder to kill than to
force into a miserable life... but then, as though you couldn't guess,
