I will be in New York next week. I was wondering if some kind soul
could send me the FK air times for next week? Also I never know when
it is on in Boston or Providence (where I live) Anyone know when it
will be on? WFXT 25 seems to have preempted it for wrestling last
week. and WPRI 10 Providence had it on Sunday morning at 1:35 AM. I
can not tape a moving target :(. For that matter, does any know the
air times for the next 2-3 weeks on USA?

Sheesh, that subject looks familiar... <g>. Anyway, this isn't some
plea I will have to apologize for, not at all! Actually it's a question.
Someone (leave name unsaid) sent me a tape and asked me to tape the episodes
I thought were the 6 best Janette and Nick developing episodes. (great
choice!) Well, with my warped mind every single episode is a Janette and
Nick developing episode. (I even found a way to make Hearts of Darkness about
Nick grieving for Janette, yes I am very warped!!!) Could someone a bit more
open-minded tell me which ones would be good?

The Spoilers list, but only for discussion *of* the episode. I think you
are aloud to discuss when the ep will be shown on Forkni. And if not,
correct me. (No flames, please? I'm tired of dodging them because of my
mis-informed post on FK-FIC. I can't take any more flames.... A screw it, go
ahead and flame me I'm used to it...) Serisously though, I think that's
right. You just can't say on this list that Janette wa... never mind. You
can't reveal fact about an ep except on Spoiler.

Which is where my "when it suits him" comment comes in. i'm not the
clearest, most concise writer :), sorry. When people (vampires) he cares for
are involved, yes, he'll work towards their well-being. But LC certainly
doesn't run a vampire shelter. We have the Raven as sanctuary thanks to
Janette. Whatever possible 'mothering' role LC's taken on along with
ownership of the club is out of favour to her. He cares for her, if she asks
him, he'll probably do it. He's not going to take care of his race out of
the goodness of his heart, i don't think. Not unless they're faced with
extinction, apocalypse, etc and LC suddenly realizes he doesn't want to be
alone or some such...

He's not going to break the Vampiric code of non-discovery, but that's also
for his own self-interests. Trouble for vampires in general will mean misery
for himself (discovery, having to move just when he's got all of Toronto in
his hand - hey, a sing-along! And what beautiful hands they are!).

And, anyway, he's very cruel to those he loves, even to the point of placing
them in danger. See Sandra for more on this :)

>"cultural relativity" which is basically looking at each culture on its own

That's a very good point and also just something that's going to be a matter
of opinion.

Some of us see vampires as a wholly different species. i happen to believe
that these aren't the animated corpses of the 19th Century tales (not to
suggest that those who see vampires as completely different think they're
mush-brained automatons, or anything :). These guys were human once, they
consort with humans, they speak the same languages... apart from blood lust
(which can be a very jarring difference, yes) they seem very *human* to me.
Humanity is complex. Vampirism is complex. Violence, selfishness, murder,
insanity, blind lust, etc aren't limited to vampires, of course (nor are
they limited to humans - animals will rape, murder, etc too, i hear). They
blend, to me. They overlap. i cannot relate to my rabbits' experience, we
have different brains, different bodies, different consciousnesses. Vampires
and humans seem very close, to me. i think that the extreme variation
between human individuals can be equated to humans/vampires. i believe the
"us and them" thing LC and Janette preached is a willfully-adopted attitude,
not a truth of essence.

Huh? :) i'm sorry this makes no sense but just keep in mind it's another
view, however lacking or contradictory or nonsensical. See? i'm complex!
(Confused, complex, same thing :)

A human culture could exist somewhere which believes violence is just a fact
of life, pursuit of one's self-interest is a fact of life, and just the way
it is (think fictional, futuristic, post-apocalyptic societies). LaCroix
could be an average guy there. idaknow, i just see vampires as an extreme.
They just go and do what they want - they have the power not to be
apprehended. There're us turned up a notch. i guess this ties into that
"beast within" discussion.

It's just a me thing. i don't think the FK vampires are so alien. i fancy i
could imagine what their lives would be like. We all could, we just need to
imagine. (Sheesh, this is sounding like a 60s sing-along intro. Or something
from a Sesame Street album.)

i'd take my chances 'cause i know, whatever he does, whatever his
motivations, intent, discontent, whatever - it'll be exciting, in any case
(to say the very least)!

I've also been concerned about the almost total drop-off in SOSFK
activity on the list. It's not that the discussions aren't interesting. But
as Felicia said (past the 4-line quote limit), if FK isn't renewed there will
be no new episodes to discuss -- just the same three seasons, over and over
again, until like ST fans in the 70's we will have exhaustively analyzed
every word of dialogue, every lifted eyebrow and every thread of costuming.
I'm not convinced that we can expect the kind of fan activity that led to ST
movies and three new programs. We'll just turn into cultists, poring over
our old show... a very depressing thought.

NATPE provided a tremendous focus for the SOSFK effort, but it wasn't the
sole focus -- it only evolved into such over time. At first, the emphasis
was on massive letter-writing to USA to convince them that there were more
viewers than they were taking into account. After a few weeks, USA came to
been seen as a lost cause and the emphasis switched to Sony, then down a
notch to TriStar. As it became known that TriStar listened to syndicators
buying the show, we began to (increasingly) target syndicators. The idea was
proposed to meet/beat/double Sony's donation to the Pediatric AIDS
foundation, to show what kind of good doobies we are. As the NATPE plans
developed, all the excitement over them became a sort of vortex. But once
NATPE was over, it seemed that no one was sure just what to do next. Many
people had become tired of writing letters or had run out of people to write
to.

But more than that, there seemed to be a sort of *fatalism* onlist. My
impression -- and I beg anyone with better information to correct me onlist,
so I don't mislead anyone here -- my impression is that TriStar basically
indicated to us after NATPE, "Okay, folks, we're impressed, and we hear you
-- but it's a cold, cruel business out here, and we *have* to see those
numbers, or it's no go." This left us with the sense that we had no
recourse, because the only real way to save the show is to get the ratings
up, and what control do we have over ratings? We might as well wish for the
sun to rise in the West or for pigs to fly. So we all patted ourselves on
the back for our flyers and bags and letters, continued to make some efforts
if we thought of something we hadn't covered, and mostly settled down to wait
out the February sweeps -- without much optimism that I can detect.

It seems to me that a real "Phase 2" effort must concentrate on raising
the ratings, more than on further letter-writing to TPTB. While this might
seem impossible, the key to getting ratings up is *publicity*. An effort to
bring FK and the SOSFK effort to people's attention will arouse curiosity.
People who have never even heard of the show and might be interested will
tune it in to see what all the fuss is about. I think that FK is one of the
most handicapped shows I've ever seen -- I've never seen it promoted, outside
of its brief stint on USA, TV Guide usually doesn't print episode
descriptions, it's frequently buried in time slots which surround it with
infomercials and hoary old reruns. Viewers tend to stumble across the show
by accident. It's little wonder that it doesn't get great ratings.

It would be great to crack the "big guys" and get written up by TV
Guide, the NYT, EW or whatever. But barring this, there are other
alternatives for getting the word out quickly -- things that won't bust your
budget. Flyers are one way: but try putting broadcast info on your flyer,
suggesting when and where people can watch the show. Target small local
newspapers. Write a letter to the editor -- small papers often will print
almost anything. Place small classified ads. You'd be amazed how many
people read those. The idea should be to try to attract the attention of as
many people as possible to the SOSFK effort, the show, and the times it can
be seen, and urge people to watch. Inevitably, we'll hit some Neilsen
customers.

I haven't seen the flyers available to download -- the one I designed
said right on it, "Ratings are Important: Watch "Forever Knight" this month.
Let USA or WFXT know you watched and tell them how much you enjoy the show."
Along with the phone calling and letter writing we're urging people to do,
we also need to be getting the word out to watch the show. We'd probably be
appalled at how many people out there have never even *heard* of FK,
including people who'd love it. The flyers are a good start, but they have
primarily been directed at people who already know the show -- people at
media cons, comic book and gaming stores, and so on. That's appropriate if
our object is to inform current viewers of the threat to the show and get
them writing. But a broader scope is needed to attract new viewers, and
that's what we need now. *That's* what "Phase 2" should be all about.

At this point if LaCroix was only infatuated with Fleur instead of deeply
in love with her, it makes no difference. What matters is *he* thought he
was in love with her and will always act according to his personal ethic. I
will concede that had he brought her across they may or may not have
continued in the same deep emotional attachment... but we can never know

As for his hatred of his emotion, it's not so unheard of a thing. I have
also felt emotions that I haven't liked, but have had to deal with all the
same. Part of the challenge of existence, mortal and immortal alike.

 (a) Tell me where I might find it on the East Coast (it's not on TNT here,

 (b) Trade tapes with me if you have the Ger episodes of Airwolf on tape?

Please reply off-list to the e-mail address below. Many thanks!

BTW, you all *did* catch Bea Quindlen's announcement last week about Ger's
performance in Taming of the Shrew in Toronto April 25, 26, and 27th,
right? If not, you can e-mail me off-list and I'll forward the

Welcome!

Now turn your <CAP LOCKS> button off. We know you're excited, but you don't
need to SHOUT (vampires and their fans have very good hearing).

Do you have a favorite character of all the ones you've seen? If so, this
would dictate your faction affiliation. (Nick - Knighties, LaCroix -
Cousins, Natalie - NatPackers, Tracy - Perkulators, Vachon -
Vaquera/Vaquero, Janette - Raven/Ravenette, Screed - RatPack) Of course
there are the people who refuse to choose - Die Hards, and then the ones who
refuse to choose but will pretend for a while if you give them enough
chocolate - Mercs (short for mercenaries).

But you don't have to choose now, or ever. Just hang back, you'll figure
out where your true feelings lie.

I assume that since you are such an FK addict, that you have written to each
of the powers every day since the beginning of January. Support your habit,
keep writing those letters.

DOH! My mistake. Most humble apologies! <sheepish simper>

Airwolf is on WWOR at 4pm PCT.

I WILL post when (if) they start showing the Ger eps. Promise.

Do I have to do FKFIC-L penance again? What comes after an epilogue? How
about "The Adventures of Javier Vachon and Tracy in Never Never Land"? (Urs
can play Tinkerbell)

Perhaps that was a time saving thing....

It would seem to me it would take quite a bit of time to make sure you had
all the "bits" back. He got -blown up-. Pardon my being gross, but there
would be an awful lot of LITTLE pieces to find. Personal theory...the hand
was easy to find (as well as being a good plot device). If the little bits
can grow back, so could fangs. It would probably take longer, bone being
denser than flesh.

What's the ep with LaCroix in the war? Same scenario. Vamps couldn't be
killed in the war, but they could get some bits hacked off.

Well if you see a Theme, I'm interested. I also have a load screen bundled
with some Highlander screens on my web page.

I don't know if Lacroix's ever been shown killing another vampire, but we've
seen Nick kill them, or at least try. When Nick killed other vampires, he
did so because they were harming a member of the human community. If Lacroix
killed one of his own kind, he'd probably do it for what he would consider
the "greater good" of the vampire community. Kind of like how human
vigilantes search out and hunt down rapists and murderers because they think
they're helping society as a whole. Not to compare Lacroix to vigilantes,
mind you, which are a spooky lot. Or consider the alpha wolf who kills a
younger wolf who is stealing food from its pack members or otherwise harming
the group as a whole. I think it's a definite possibility (probability?)
that Lacroix's moral code includes the option to kill those vampires (and
humans) he sees as a danger to his own kind.

And then, after wreaking his vengeance, he'll stop to utter one of his
chillingly eloquent soliloquys. ;) (Did I even come close to spelling
soliloquy??)

There's a bit from a story by the WebGoddess herself that sums up LaCroix on
this issue fairly well to me....

----------
Stopped by his place the other night, mostly because I was between dividend
checks and running low on cash, and in need of a drink, and I didn't want
to have to ask the General for credit -- he'd do it, 'cause if we have one
ironclad rule, it's that you don't let your brethren go hungry -- but I
didn't want to deal with the aura of contempt he'd project.
-----------

It seemed "true" to character. Don't let them starve, but make sure they pay
one way or another.

ARLINGTON HUMAN FACTOR PARTY
compiled by Perri, et al.

*********

Okay, obviously we watched Human Factor, and the latest Highlander
episode. Many Cousins were present, and far too few Knighties. <g> Quotes
which involve possible spoilers are at the bottom, with spoiler space.

*********

My car. *My* car. My *car*. *My* car.

I felt I had to have my obligatory Cousin moment, so I made S and M's.

Nick would probably carry it around in a hatbox.

The Fang Gang list

It's about time you Knighties were outnumbered. (Yeah!)

Oh my God. That was Stan. Stan's on the screen.

That girl was on Flipper last week.

When something doesn't make sense, it's the Compelling Dramatic Device.

Don't all of his girlfriends just live in the Apartment Building of the
Damned?

What's she doing?
   She's angsting.
She's patting a load of bricks.

Fangs!

Then Duncan bites her because it turns out he's been having an affair
with Janette.

What's Screed doing there?

Apparently if you stop at a traffic light, you must immediately regress
2000 years.
I get behind people like that all the time.

Are you sure you're not a Cousin?
Just like a Knightie - denying your true nature.

Someone made it just in the nick of time.
Or in the Janette of time?

I've been spoiled. I feel so violated.

You're a Knightie, you can rationalize anything.

That was bad.
We're not gonna get much better.
[Insert rendition of Texas A&M Fight Song]
   Yeach!
   Well, that was hideous.

Robert, can I borrow your thingy?
   I don't know, that's kind of personal.
   It's a Mingee thingee.

On Forever Knight, if your name starts with an Sc, you're pretty much a
goner.

Richard Simmons as a vampire. Why does that scare me so deeply?
He and Tracy would get along perfectly.

They did the Vulcan thing with LaCroix's eyebrows.

So she only plays snuggle-bunnies with serial killers.

Dark Knighties.

So maybe it's a one-size-fits-all fang thing.

SPOILERS....

[In unison] Oh my God, she's wearing denim!

Ravenettes all over the world just screamed in horror.

Did you see the lightbulb go on over her head?

There's more Ravenettes passing out.

Where are they?
   The Civic Center.
Don't you expect to see like, Knighties and Vaqueros come through,
chasing after Vachon?

Tracy's trying to think -- this could be painful.
You can see the hamsters running around in her head.

These two define the term 'old flame'.
And her firefighter is the 'new flame.'
   He's flamed out

The floating LaCroix was a bit weird. It was like, where are the roller
blades?

Classical, just about anything classical. Music helps keep me sane
while I'm trying to write, but if it's something catchy I know the
words to, I can't think of anything else :-)

Whatever's on KUSC...

or tapes... recently "Opera's Greatest Love Songs" and Faure's Requiem
Mass (I just *love* this one-- the Agnus Dei... <shivers!> :-)...

Sounds very fitting, I suppose... but actually it isn't really a mood
thing... I've written more _funny_ stuff listening to that Requiem... <g>

You Know You've been watching too much FK When....

You're catching up on issues of The Blood Horse (A weekly magazine
devoted to Thoroughbred racing) when you notice a horse named Vashon
listed in the "horses to watch at Gulfstream" section, and then find
yourself deeply disappointed that Vashon is a filly, but still wonder if
her mane and tail are combed on a regular basis.
Then you start going through the rest of the issue and come up with for
Nick: Nichloas(a stallion ad) Rare Brick (stallion ad) and Notagoldbrick
(earnings leaders)
Screed: Once a Sailor (stakes winners section)

That would be me. That is, I have the quotes from the stations who did
