Subject: Gemini Awards

Hope this isn't too much useless information. With all the 'guess who's
nominated for a Gemini?' and 'what's a Gemini?' posts I thought the
following URL might be of interest:

http://www.everyware.com/Academy/Awards/Gemini/default.html

It's an official Gemini Awards page. They don't list the nominees yet
(don't know if they even will) but it does give you an idea of what the
awards are and what some of the criteria and cut off dates for nomination are.

If they follow the set up for the Genie Awards (the Canadian equivalent of
the Oscar) they'll update the page with the names of the winners sometime at
the beginning of March -- of course, those of us is Canada with faithfully
*watch* CBC on March 3rd to catch a glimpse of our favourite nominees :)

Subject: 3 questions--please help

Hello! As you can probably guess, I'm new here.
I have a few questions I hope to get answered.
Feel free to e-mail me privately, as I'm on digest.

1. Is there a newer version of the general FORKNI-L/
   FKFIC-L FAQ? I've read the Oct. 28, 1994 ver. 4c
   already.

2. Why is our wonderful SFK Webgoddess called the
*illustrated* cousin? Is she like a "Visible
   Woman"? (Forgive me! :)

3. Did the _Official FK Companion_ by Moore &
Schneider (Cinemaker Press) ever come out? The
FAQ I read said it should've been out 11/94.

Thanks in advance!

But Trilling was a known murderer. I thought he was going to be
Serena's first kill -- remember, the "legend" led her to look for men
with the supposed criminal-predisposition chromosome XYY (I've called
myself an extra-chromosome fan to people sometimes).

The vampires we've seen who keep blood at home do not refrigerate
it -- it's room temperature, like the nice Merlot I'm looking at now <g>.
Serena's frig made me think she was drinking animal blood to deal with
her nature. So I thought she was going to engage in this one kill, a
justifiable one, to cross back over, and that she had deliberately picked
a man worthy of death to be her partner.

Why were you kicked out and where were you standing? Was it because you
didn't have official NATPE memberships. In retrospect that seems
obvious, but it _never_ occurred to me when all this was discussed before.

7 by 75 bags? you must have bunches of bags left over. Do the people
who donated to Laurie get one?

ooo ooo ooo! Shriek. That is just _so_ exciting. TriStar really
really knows who we are. he actually stopped and came back. Just
guessing, I'd have to say that is really really unusual in and of itself.

Great choice. Persevering against seemingly insurmountable odds.

I'm bouncing off the wall from Catherine's great experiences. Even if
TriStar refuses, the SOSFK will _never_ be forgotten in the industry. Of
course, I'm also half way into a bottle of Syrah, which never hurts.

How come we can't get things like that. I'd love to have a couple of
those mugs. Who were they selling the merchandise to, and why, if it
exists, don't they sell it to fans?????

Aha. Je comprends. You snuck in :)

I already snipped the bit where you discussed talking with the TriStar
rep. This is where the FOX guy comes in. TriStar has GOT to be
convinced that that 1.7 doesn't mean didly. What can they expect when
the stupid show is shown at 2 in the morning (on 59 in Indianapolis, and
glad I am, actually that it is).

What I really don't understand is why it failed at USA? With the changes
and more youngish oriented cast, why would people not start watching it?
Vampires are very in. Do you suppose it was neither fish nor foul? ie.
educated persons or persons specifically interested in vampires would be
turned off by the opening gratuitous skin scenes. OTOH, perhaps the show
didn't have enough later skin to please the BabeWatch crowd. I don't
know, but it is that 1.7 Nielsen rating that we need to attack.

Subject: Apologies/FK Moved

Hello everybody!

I'm terribly sorry! I posted a message intended for Jane to the list (about
the FK FAQ) I apologize for this mistake! I was told to send it off-list,
but when you 'reply' in Eudora, it sends the message to FORKNI-L instead of
the person, and it looks like I momentarily forgot! (Jane, could you please
send me the FAQ anyway?)

Now, more important stuff. For those of you who watch Forever Knight on
CJOH TV, a BBS affiliate, please note that it's been moved to Wednesday for
next week (Jan31). (According to my TV Hebdo, at least.) It's still at
10pm, but *not* on Monday!! I think it will be back on mondays the weeks
following that... Hope that helps!

Once again, sorry for the error!

I'll second that list (if Chris Potter appeared, they could name
him Jean-Pierre, give him fangs and call it an in-joke, since a)
he looks a lot like Rick Springfield, and b) I've heard he was
Ger's runner-up for the role).

I'll also add a plea for Denis Forest. Denis's a Toronto-based actor who
usually plays villains, and I'm *amazed* he's never done FK. He guest
starred as a vampire in "Dracula, the Series" with Ger and Geordie Johnson,
and co-starred with Catherine Disher in War of the Worlds. It would be

Plus, let's be real: Ben's been hot from the start, but Lisa had
to grow into her role, and the writers are still working on getting the
hang of these characters (altho Gillian Horvath is all the way there,
imho)... the nominations went to the right folks even if FK as an overall

PA fans!

There's a Creation Con at the Valley Forge Convention Center THIS weekend.
I can't get out there (it's a big distance for me and I'm stuck with work
this weekend). Is anyone going? If anyone needs a flyer I can fax or
e-mail it to you for repro. If you need copies, I'll be happy to overnight
you copies to pass out.

Let me Know ASAP

NYC fans--

Please write to Fox 5 and WLIG and ask that they move FK to an earlier hour
and advertise the change. We need those sweeps ratings in February to save
the series and if we can get them to show it just a little bit earlier, we
could pick up those rating points!

If necessary, with Fox, mention that you've heard WPIX was interested in
showing FK again because it did so well in the Sunday night, 9PM time slot
and that you watched it at that time on that channel.

Regards
When we get a fourth season, the hair GOES.

Subject: FK Topics

Regarding Sandra Gray's 22 suggestions for FORKNI-L discussions, here's my
two cents worth on the first five (more to come later):

1. FK vampirism scientific or supernatural?
I subscribe to the scientific theory. Re flying - hey, it's called
levitation or telekinesis and who's to say that "mental powers" can't
originate genetically? That goes for the vampire's abilities to hypnotize,
etc. as well.
2. LC amoral or evil?
Very good question, and just what is evil? If it's the opposite of good,
then I guess he is... I personally don't think a being can be labeled as
good or evil, only behaviors, and then only according to one's standards or
belief systems. Amoral? Not by his "code" as someone else stated.
3. FK vampires flying?
See #1.
4. Favorite character and why?
Nick and a satisfactory dissertation on the subject would be much too long
for this list!
5. Why do you love FK?
Um, see #4...

More another time!

You know you've been reading too much of this list when...

...your screensaver comes on, and you suddenly realize that your
computer screen is being overrun by warm fuzzies!

OK, they're really tribbles that came with the Star Trek Screen Saver,
but I don't remember setting the screensaver to "tribble" mode and
tribbles look a lot like warm fuzzies, but less colorful!

This reminds me somehow of a day in the last War, when I suddenly realized
that my screensaver was covering my computer screen with red bricks, and I
thought for a moment that the Cousins had actually managed to break into
my apartment and mess with my computer until I remembered that I had set
the screensaver to "brick" mode myself....

Largely unrelated question: Does anyone know whether the FAQ in the ftp
site at psu.edu is the latest one we have for the list? It seems to be
over a year old now. And the Factions FAQ floating around now doesn't
cover all the newbie FAQs!

ObFK: I was just re-watching "False Witness" tonight. Now I have to
wonder -- just how many times have they used that same warehouse in
establishing shots in FK? It looks *awfully* familiar.... It may be like
the stone building we keep seeing in which every guest character seems to
live!

Just to let you know, though someone I think already spotted it, that the
science fiction news cyberzine, Vanguard, had a notice about the Ger
conference in their Today's Factoids yesterday, and will be receiving more
info to put in for Saturday, the day of the conference.

TJ, from Vanguard, had e-mailed me after the aborted conference last Sat.,
and wanted to know when the conference would be rescheduled so he/she could
put a blurb in their Today's Factoids web page. When I got the confirmation
about the conference, I sent the info along and it was in there yesterday!

More info is on the way to Vanguard! (who - ACK! - refered people to *me*

already know, Vanguard is a good spot on the Net for information on all
issues related to science fiction and fantasy.

I don't mind being a contact person regarding the conference, but as I will
be sending along more info, I'll mention the Save FK web page as the source
for info from now on.

I don't know where this TJ from Vanguard got my name, actually.

Ladies and Gentlemen All:

Here it is, my penance for the remainder of third season. The *Revised*

********************************************
Optimists' Club FAQ
Version 2.0 (revised January 25, 1996)
Felicia Bollin (AriCon@a.......)

*** Do you like Season Three? Join the Optimists' Club! ***

Has the frightening possibility of losing this beloved show for good awakened
a zealous passion in your soul? If you have recently discovered a deep and
abiding understanding of Tracy and even found yourself drooling over Vachon
instead of dwelling on his tangled mane, beware!!! You too may be exhibiting
the signs of an Optimist!

It's very simple. Here are some of the frequently asked questions:

*** Do I need to like everything about the third season to join? ***

Not at all. You only need to feel that the third season so far is good
overall, or that there is cause for optimism, or both. (Fight for "Sons of
Belial", "Fever", or "Human Factor"!) Or, you can become an Optimists' Club
Auxiliary, if you think it's too soon to say.

*** How do I join? ***

Just put "Optimists' Club" anywhere in your sig. It's that simple! (To
cement this resolve, immediately sit down and write a cheerful letter to Lisa
Ryder praising her evocation of the character of Tracy. You don't have to
mail it, though you should, just sit down and compose a paragraph.)

*** What is the motto of the Optimists' Club? ***

"Any 'Forever Knight' is better than no 'Forever Knight'."

I've been wondering about this, too. Please tell, me, someone: is *Star
Trek Voyager* on FOX at 10pm Mondays all over the country, or just in the
Toledo, OH, viewing area? Cuz if it's everywhere, I think that's why FK
failed on USA. (Of course there's also the BIG issue that, apparently,
most of us have been watching FK on non-cable syndicate stations . . . is
that true, or am I just hallucinating?)

Wow, many many many many thanks to the NATPE Strike Force! What an
accomplishment! I have a real feeling that you made a *big* impression!!

Oh, and Lynne Ackerman -- someone in Vegas knows you! You're doing
something right, girl!! :)

And to be true to my role as GOODIES listkeeper, I noted in the latest
NATPE Strike Force report that apparently, the strike force sent postcards
to everyone on the FK crew from Las Vegas! You guys *did* remember that
mail to Canada requires extra postage, right?!?

The crew will get a *big* kick out of those cards!

Wonderful, huh? <big silly grin> Compliments are a GOOD thing.

Why? Thirty-seven tattooes. Thirty-three of them on my left arm.

Laurie Salopek gave me her spare copy of "The Illustrated Man" to read, and
a sig was born.

So much so that even now, as I skip and jump and frolic amongst the
factions, I still can't escape being The Illustrated Cousin. It's just too
cool a sig to lose!

ObFK: Tattoo #38 will be a Forever Knight logo.

Which is only strange when NOT taken in context with my left arm. :)

Awesome news! You girls did a *wonderful* job -- what else from intelligent,
enthusiastic FK people? You made great contacts and spread the enthusiasm
like jam over the convention. Even cab drivers? And security guards? *And*
TriStar people? I bow my head in supplication. From now on, in my book, you
guys are The Maginificent Seven!

Did my little bit last night by spreading flyers all over the local community
college, some in stacks, some pinned up. I'll take more with me on my next
couple of trips out of town too. I've got my *travel agent* in
Atlanta interested. I'm sending her a copy of the flyer and going to let her
know what station its on. She asked! And she'd never even seen the show.
Enthusiasmmmmmmm, it does work!

I'm so excited, its going to be hard to do my work today and to have to wait
to come home before I can read the other posts from Toni and Diane.

Rod Perth was mentioned by a TriStar fellow? Rod Perth and Kay should have a
copy of all the favorable quotes and contacts from this business. Let them
see what THE PEOPLE think!

I can't find a TV station listing for Georgia on the Save FK page -- it says
to to Georgia, but when you do, the page isn't there! I'm going to leave my
line open while I get ready for work, and if *anyone* comes on who knows the
call letters of the Atlanta, Georgia station that shows FK, let me know! Do
they show it there? Surely, they must!
