I must admit, however, that the SOS-FK campaign had nothing to do with this; I've been giving regularly since I was old enough. Those of you who gave for the first time because of this -- thanks, congratulations, and you'll be eligible again end of March. It'd be great if this campaign had some long-term good effects (in addition to getting the show renewed, of course). A vampire should not *have* to feel compelled to kill humans in order to still be a good vampire. Especially since we've been shown that vampires *can* "sip" without killing in the FK universe. Why shouldn't a vampire who chooses *not* to kill humans just be considered as having a different appetite (just as some humans are vegetarians). Some vampires could consider humans as worth more than food. This doesn't mean these vampires couldn't drink human blood. They just wouldn't kill for it. And then you have vampires like Screed who *like* animal blood. Are they less of a vampire for that difference? Perhaps socially amongst their own kind they might be frowned upon, but from what I have observed, a vampire like Screed who primarily feeds on animals still seems to have the same vampire abilities as those whose diets are primarily human. And Serena didn't apparently cause any unexplained deaths in the area. She appeared to have been quietly working in night construction around many mortals without arousing much suspicion as to what she actually was (in fact, I don't think she aroused *any* suspicions). She certainly hadn't gone on any killing sprees like some of Nick's other kids or opened herself to suspicion. She seemed a very capable, intelligent woman who knew what she wanted--to be mortal again. But she was functioning quite respectfully as a vampire in the meantime, imo. --Sandra Gray, forever Knightie --tmp_harkins@d....... ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 25 Jan 1996 02:24:10 -0500 From: Jill Lundberg <JLDolphin@a.......> Subject: EM search and Broadcast & Cable magazine I found Electronic Media at Barnes & Noble and Borders but they were only up to the Jan 8th issue. The guy at Barnes said the weather was a major factor in being behind and they probably wouldn't be caught up till early to mid Feb. Is anybody else having this problem. I don't want to wait 2 weeks to see our Ad. (of course, I should be happy that St. Louis even carries this magazine). I did peruse the issue on hand. It is large size like Variety. And about 80% ads. On a slightly hopeful not - at Borders I looked thru Broadcast and Cable Magazine - Jan 15 issue. This mag is about 40 or 50 % ads and had some very interesting articles including a few on NATPE. In listing shows that were dropped or doubtful for next season, the article said FK would probably not be carried because of USA's pullout of funding. I think this is hopeful because it wasn't listed with the definitely dropped shows. Also, this issue listed all the companies that would be at NATPE and the shows they were to offer. Tri-Star was listed as Columbia Tri-STar and had 3 1st run shows and several dozen reruns. The 1st run shows were Ricki Lake, Tempestt Bledsoe, and *TA-DAH! Forever Knight. That made my heart beat a little faster. On a down note - in both magazines I didn't see 1 ad for *any* Tri-Star shows. And the company logos were easy to pick out. And there were ads for everything you could imagine and some I couldn't. Jill Lundberg, Knightie, Nick&NatPack, Defender of Vachon JLDolphin@a....... Seems to me that if she would have avoided killing humans, she'd *angst* a bit about the prospect that Trilling would die. She didn't. Personally, I doubt if it's possible for a vampire to avoid killing humans altogether. At least at some point (probably very early on) they will be drawn to kill humans. That's not to say the vampire can't later choose not to kill humans. But we've even seen Screed (an animal blood drinker by preference) kill a human (or at least the implication that he did is there). I also disagree that Nick was "Offered vampirism explicitly." LC (or *any* vampire on the show, for that matter) did not go into great detail about what being a vampire would involve. So how could Nick have made a truly informed decision about something only vaguely explained? Janette got even less of an explanation than Nick when she was brought over by LC, Alexandra was even *unconscious* at the time. I'll agree that Nick made a mistake in judgment in bringing over Serena, but her remarks could have reasonably been interpreted by him as her wanting to be a vampire. As far as Nick's near death experience, would you prefer a total unknown to a at least partially known fate (Nick knew he would be given a longer life at least if he followed LC)? I liked Serena too, but I still don't think she was whiny and she was certain not uncontrollable. She managed to learn to live with what she had become, but still wanted to find a way back to mortality. She wasn't destroyed by anyone. As far as the blood in her fridge, I haven't watched that episode for a while, but just because it doesn't say what kind of blood it is, that doesn't mean there's not any chance it wasn't human blood. We don't know if Nick was drinking whole human blood or Janette's blood-wine mixture in Feeding the Beast. We weren't told so it could have been either. --Sandra Gray, forever Knightie --tmp_harkins@d....... ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 25 Jan 1996 02:57:15 -0500 From: Sandra Gray <TMP_HARKINS@d.......> Subject: Re: Nick's kids Oh, and you left out a stage in Serena's case, AC. You left out the hot and heavy sex which she thought had led to her accomplishing her aim of getting pregnant and that was *after* she had been bitten so she had to have been a vampire. IMHO, there is a rather wide canyon between a human being who happens to be a vegetarian or vegan, and one who wants to be something other than he or she is. I don't object to a vampire feeding on anything else other than humans. Rats, cows, pigs, whatever. It has no effect on his or her adjustment to being a vampire. However, a vampire whose central ambition is not to be a vampire is not well-adjusted. Serena may be functional -- in the same way as a human who desperately wants to be a pig can be functional by following all the outward societal conventions -- but she is not well-adjusted. As I said before, the only well-adjusted vampire is one who wants to be a vampire, enjoys being a vampire, and doesn't want to be anything other than a vampire. The type of food that that vampire chooses has nothing to do with it. Jane (janes@i.......) First, USA scheduled FK for an additional prime time showing during the month of January, which said to me either (a) the show is doing well and they wanted to capitalize on that or (b) the show wasn't doing as well as they hoped and they were trying to give it more exposure. None of this jibes with the rather abrupt cancellation - but I think I've figured it out. T&A! All that gratuitous T&A that annoyed us all so much in the first several episodes of this season has been conspicuously absent - resulting in, IMHO, some of the best episodes they've ever done, and the axe from U(trash is our middle name)SA. I don't know whether TriStar cares, but I do know that people have been prosecuted for copying and *selling* tapes of certain series. It is a violation of copyright and as such could get you in trouble if the owner of the copyright chose to do so. You're much safer just to pay for the cost of the tapes and the postage. And to make arrangements off list. Btw, I don't know who let out on list that the blooper reel is out there, but again, be careful. Some shows object to this sort of thing being in circulation. Granted I haven't seen "Baby, Baby" yet, but comparing Serena's desire to become human to a human's desire to become a pig doesn't sound like an accurate analogy. Apparently, Serena wants to go *back* to what she *once was*. A human who wants to be a pig isn't desiring to return to a previous state. It seems that Tristar wanted to cancel because they have enough to strip. So now we find out what is important, people to watch the shows or having enough to strip and then going home. Clearly the syndicators want eye-balls for their programs but Tri-star doesn't care about new eps if they have enough to strip. It will be intersting to see who wins. They figure they will have also as many eyeballs watching the rerun stripped shows as would watch new eps. |---- Vicki Merriman - vmerrima@i....... ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 25 Jan 1996 08:08:52 -0800 From: LC Fenster <lucienlc@i.......> Subject: NATPE: Word from the *Front* Just spoke with Cherri Munoz, one of the "NATPE 7" to get an update on events yesterday. I believe AnnMarie also spoke to someone out there and will be posting some preliminary info. Tonight, as I understand it, the Strike Force will be posting a summary of what happened, together with (hopefully) the text of the EM article. I've had the article read to me over the phone, and it is GREAT! Very respectful and sympathetic to our efforts, and imo, it hits all the right buttons. Great quotes from AnnMarie and Catherine, used to great effect. This should DEFINITELY go into any publicity stuff we may be sending out hereafter. The article is titled, in large block lettering: FOREVER KNIGHT FANS RISE UP ON THE INTERNET. Wayne Walley compares us to the 1960s Trekkies (there are worse comparisons that could be made, believe me, than to the ST franchise!), then goes on to say we are more "organized and sophisticated" than others who have launched save a show campaigns <g>. He talks about the charity donation to PAF, about the blood drive, about the SFK web page, about the lottery tickets, about the flowers and homebaked cookies to syndicators, everything! :-) He also quotes Catherine on the positive demographics stuff from the November book and closes with her comment that FK could be extremely successful but has rarely been given favorable time slots by program managers! Back to NATPE itself: someone who took a bag and flyer from Cherri told her they would "talk to Jon" who they were seeing that night; someone else apparently told Diane E. the same thing regarding Kay K! Oh, and dear Paul DaCruz of EM, who made the EM article possible by pitching our story to Wayne Walley, stopped by to chat with our Strike Force members. He was extremely nice! The Strike Force sent candies, flyers and some of the flowers we sent them <g> to the EM suite in Vegas, but I think we really have to do something nice for these guys when they get back home! Anyway, this is just a quick report of what I heard this morning; I'm sure there will be far more detail - and the article - tonight! Looking forward to that! Send goodies, thank you notes, cards, etc. to: Paragon Entertainment/Forever Knight 119 Spadina Ave., Suite 900 Toronto, Ontario M5V 2L1 CANADA If you have something delicate which needs to be hand-delivered, e-mail me off-list and I'll try to put you in contact with someone in Toronto who can arrange delivery. Items for James Parriott, whose office is in California, not Toronto, should be sent to: James D. Any other brilliant ideas out there? Is anyone a member of Ger's fan club? In my membership packet I got instructions for folding an origami *bat*. If I could find the instructions (and I can't), I'd get to work folding a bunch of the things. One bat for each member of the cast and crew! GWD fan club members, get to work! Way to go, listpals. I think the cheer we're spreading up there will do some good! Look for more smiling faces on the last few episodes filmed this season. Also check the actors for the tell-tale signs of chocolate overload (jumpiness, unexplained good mood, chocolate smudges on their faces, etc.). >From the keeper of the GOODIES list -- * Allison Percy, a perky Knightie percy91@w....... * * __o Pedal for Forever Knight & for a worthy charity! * * _`\<,_ Contact me to pledge support or join the ride. I ask because I got unsubbed for a teensy while when the server was bouncing messages. If anyone out there knows anything, or has more parts, could you please email me?
