Thanks for the encouraging Vegas report, Linda!
Now... since you're there, do any of the Vegas TV stations cover
the NATPE convention at all? Dont you think they should be sure to
do a quick spot on the NATPE Seven? Seriously! Would you or someone
else be willing to let TV stations in the area know what we're doing
and strongly suggest to them that they turn the cameras on our crew
for a few seconds of fame, glory, publicity, and sheer terror <g>?
Call the stations, fax 'em all of the PRs, that kind of thing!

Subject: Re: Anyone wanna talk about "Fever"? (No spoilers)

OKAY, OKAY, OKAY!

I get the picture. Yes, I *do* subscribe to the FK Spoilers list, and I
read the (an?) FK newsgroup daily. My point was that I thought it would
be nice to talk about the show itself--FK, which we all love enough to
bust our buns to save.

I just joined this list when I found out about the cancellation, so I
apologize profusely if my "no spoilers" comments about "Fever" spoiled
the episode for anyone, and if I broke the list rules. *Please* forgive
me . . . I'm new here!

It's just that every day my mailbox is filled with at least 150 list
messages about donating blood, sending letters and care packages,
etc.--which is all very inspiring and makes me happy--but it would be
nice to see some talk about FK itself every once in a while, too.

Someone flamed me for complaining about the lack of discussion of the
show rather than starting a discussion myself. Well, my post asking when
we could talk about FK *was* an attempt to start a discussion . . . and
see where that got me? (See new newsgroup: alt.fk.cassie.flame.flame.flame)

I don't mean to be combative, and I hope I'm not insulting anyone. But,
please, someone tell me: if I can't post anything about the current
season until it is in reruns, what *am* I allowed to write about on this
list, anyway?

I watched Fever this weekend and thought it was a wonderful show, It is one
of those shows that you can watch and truly think about. It is one defenitly
not to miss.

By the way, I am making some 700 flyers this week to send out to my clients
of the place I work. They are all over Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, Arizona, New
Mexico, and California. I figured if any of them could help and would take
the time to it would be great. I talked to most of them and they said at
least they would be able to write a letter, I figure if even half of them do
it, then it is already a big step. Plus, if they pass out more flyers then
it would even be better. Keep your fingers crossed.

Hey everybody, I will be going to horrorfest, it sounds like a great idea. I
agree with Susan that we should get a group together and go, it would be a
great thing. Also for any of those out of towners who want to go, email me
offline and I will try to get some info to you. By the way thanks Susan for
the info, got it compleatly in one piece, even though everybody at work
thought it was of kind of a strange fax.

Other than that, I do have a question about the show, I missed some of the
first season episodes. So does anybody know how I can get ahold of a season
description. I know that it is a little much to ask, but what the heck I
will answer it anyway.

thank you-

This is a highly intellectual list, don't'cha know. When I first joined in
August, I was flung headlong into a detailed and meaningful debate on
"Ger's Butt". I'm not entirely sure, but I believe someone was preparing a
thesis on the subject.

We also once spent a lovely day debating the fly that died in my coffee.

Y'know... highbrow stuff. <g>

Subject: NATPE update!

Hi, all! This is the Strike Force checking in!

The story so far:

-Diane encountered a cabbie who was a fan! She told him that the show was
being cancelled, and his reaction was "They're doing what?! But it's so
good!!" He promised to go call the local syndie when he got off work
tonight. See? We've already made an impact. :)

-Toni and Diane literally got into NATPE this afternoon, and scoped out both
the Tristar and Paragon booths. The Tristar booth is apparently HUGE, about
twice the size of a hotel bedroom (the most immediate scale). They talked to
the two very sweet ladies from Paragon, whose response to their gushing of
thanks for FK was "Oh, yeah, that's popular down here, isn't it?" They had
no goodies with them about FK (and were *very* apologetic about the fact),
but Toni and Diane left a stack of flyers and we'll smuggle another box of
bags and more flyers tomorrow, since they didn't actively throw us out, and
just kind of kept nodding vacantly, like they were completely overwhelmed by
their enthusiasm.

-We now have several copies of the NATPE EM mag for those who have asked for
them (and our ad looks *soooooo* *preeeeeeetty*... oooooh, aaaaah, gush gush
gush. :) Very cool. They *will* be impressed.), and will get more tomorrow.

-The LA contingent, a little the worse for wear after a 4 and a half hour
drive, came in expecting to be folding flyers for a few hours, when much to
our surprise, they were all done! Wow!!! Whoever helped fold those suckers,
we are eternally grateful!!

And thanks so much, Bonnie, for the cookies and the card! And thanks Apache
and LaurieCF, for the flowers! They're beautiful! I tellya, man, I'll drive
out and beat executives over the head anytime for this kind of treatment! :)

-We had our strategy session while Strings was playing (okay, so it was on
while we were giggling over all the stupid/zany/just plain wierd ideas we had
for strategies... close enough :).

- Oh yeah, and Diane wanted to make sure to mention her blood clots. :)
Basically dried cranberries, usually I'm not one for the things, but they
were really good! And they are very realistic blood clots. :) And Ribena,
in a cute little vial that Diane stole from Father's Day (okay, I didn't
remember the part, either, but apparently it's where Nick climbs out of the
trunk, he pulls out a vial of blood and chugs. But I digress.). And the
party favors. They had some Raven paraphrenalia, and little knick-knacks
which were clues from different episodes. For instance, a small white ribbon
rose, a little oval glass jewel, a string of pearls, a bit of floss, a paper
umbrella, and a button. Anyway, try to name the episode which corresponds to
the clue. I think collectively, we got a few, but I don't think we got some,
even all together.

-There are celebrities there, available to sign autographs. But don't get
your hopes up, and suspend the jealousy. Examples are Tempestt Bledsoe and
Ricki Lake. Wheee! Can my heart handle the strain? :)

-Toni was brave enough to actually go into a Tristar reception and very
casually wandered around, looking very much at home, popping flyers at all
the tables where people were talking, expecting all the time for some
security guy to come and drag her away. But they never did, and she unloaded
a ton of flyers right then and there. We're hoping to do similar things
tomorrow, if we can find anyone with half the guts to help Toni in her
endeavor. Don't worry, we'll smile and shmooze our way in and out of there
so smooth, they won't even know we're there. Especially when we look much
more businesslike tomorrow.

The bags and flyers look so professional, I can't believe it! We're all
totally impressed.

Okay, more tomorrow (god, expect a BOOK guys, we're going to have a lot to
say)!

Wish us luck! We'll be using this address for our netting! :)

Later!

Subject: Re: Anyone wanna talk about "Fever"? (No spoilers)

There are many things that can be discussed other than the current
episodes. For example:

1) Is FK vampirism scientific or supernatural in nature (or a
   combination of the two)?

2) Is LC just amoral or evil? ;)

3) If FK vampirism is scientific (i.e. natural), how can the FK
   vampire fly?

4) Who is your favorite character and why?

5) Why do you love FK?

6) What is the worst thing a character has done? The best thing?

7) You can "review" episodes from previous seasons (or ones from
this season that have already been rerun).

8) Does Nick love Nat? Is she the love of his life?

9) Does LC have homosexual feelings for Nick?

10) Does Nick love Janette?

11) If Nick achieves mortality again, will he like it?

12) Can FK vampires engage in sex?

13) How does one become an FK vampire? (let me count the ways ;) )

14) If FK vampirism is natural, why do the vampires react with fear
    to religious items?

15) The appearances of FK actors in other upcoming roles.

16) FK actors at conventions (convention reviews, except for spoiler
type remarks they make which should go to the spoiler list).

17) Visits to the set or location filming (except spoilers).

18) Vachon's hair--like it or not? ;)

19) How did LC survive being staked and burned in Dark Knight
    (speculation)?

20) FKFIC-L fiction opinions (if the story doesn't relate to a
    spoiler for an episode).

That should give some ideas of the wide variety of things that can
be discussed on forkni-l.

From: Deborah Bender <DBendr@a.......>
Subject: more on spoiler rules

Today, several newcomers to this list were asking whether they could
discuss the most recent episode (Fever) on FORKNI-L. Some correct information
and some misinformation was posted in response.
Several people responded, correctly, that immediately after an episode
is broadcast for the first time, it can't be discussed here on FORKNI-L.
There is a separate list, FKSPOILR, which was set up specifically for
discussion of new episodes. One can subscribe to this list at the same
listserv address and by the same procedure as one subscribes to FORKNI-L.
FKSPOILR has been hot and heavy with discussion of Fever for about a week
now.
Where things got vague and confusing was in response to the question,
"Well, when *can* I talk about the latest episode on FORKNI-L?" Someone
posted that you have to wait until it is rerun. That is incorrect, unless
there has been a rule change recently that I missed (since the traffic got so
heavy, I have had to delete some of my digests unread).
The listowners set up a blackout period for discussion of new
episodes on this list, until everyone has had a reasonable chance to see it,
regardless of what day their local station broadcasts it. Also there is a one
week cushion added for people who tape the show and watch it later. I don't
remember precisely what the blackout period is, but it amounts to
approximately three weeks after the first satellite download of the program
(which is the earliest opportunity to see the new ep, if you happen to have a
dish).
So, newcomers, if you wait three weeks after you have seen a new
episode before you talk about it here, you won't violate a list rule or spoil
any surprise for people who haven't seen the episode yet. BTW, *any*
discussion of the content, even, "This was a really good episode," has to
wait until the blackout period is over or if you can't wait, be posted on
FKSPOILR.
Listowners, please correct me if I have said anything inaccurate..

I was one of those who posted that answer. I got it from a post that came
down on December 17, 1995 from Lisa McDavid (who was doing it on behalf of
the listowners) titled "Official List Rules -- Please Read". The exact
quote from that post is as follows:

My interpretation of this is that we have to wait for re-runs to talk about
an episode on FORKNI-L.

P.S. I have the entire post saved if anyone wants a copy.

Hi, me again.

Just wanted to tell everyone about a "bathroom mystery" called the

For anyone who is curious, the book is a pretty hilarious, satirical, murder
mystery set in Toronto. It's put out by the Riverbank Press, and costs
Cdn$18.99 (plus 7% GST of course).

As far as I know, the book is only available in Canada. At least that's
what Julie Randolph told me when I got a copy for her. I don't know if or
where it can be ordered through the Internet.

If enough people on the list are interested, I'm willing to call the
Riverbank Press and find out whether or not it can be ordered over the phone
from the States. If it's only one or two of you, I could probably be
persuaded to buy a copy and mail it to you -- for the appropriate
reimbursement of course (i.e. cost of book plus postage).

If you haven't checked out the Vanguard website yet, it has at least 2
mentions of Forever Knight; one on its introductory page and another on
the factoids of 1/19/96; slightly out of date but still there!

The URL is <http://www.cybervanguard.com> and can be truly interesting!

I noticed that SUNY @Stony Brook on Long Island, in New York, will be
having a I-CON XV convention 4/12/14/96; It is the largest multi-track
sci fi convention in the Northeast US; anyway, on the information page
is a section marked "Other good places to visit:" and Jamies Webpage is
listed under Save Forever Knight! It's been cancelled but it's not too
late to bring it back!

The URL is off the cybervanguard website under conventions!

Subject: SOS Campaign: Neilsens under attack!

This is only tangentially related to the SOS campaign, but it could
perhaps be useful. There is a featured article about stations
attacking the November Neilsen ratings book in this weeks Electronic
Media (yes, the one with our ad in it). AND, I've just been informed
that one of the high honchos of FOX apparently lit into the Neilsens
system at NATPE (text of that should be on the way).

Regarding the EM article: It's titled "More markets cry foul over
ratings" and starts as follows:

"More stations in diary markets are waking up to November Neilsen
nightmares as they dissect the latest ratings books.

They have found ratings that don't make sense and viewers that
disappear without explanation.

It would be funny, except that the lost ratings and demographic points
will cost the stations thousands of dollars.

Actually, Nigel did play Riff Raff in an Italian tour of Rocky Horror.
This came out when someone at DOW2 asked him if he'd played Janet. His
dead pan reply was, "no, I played Magenta." :)

Don Durham Commented:

There was an article in yesterday's Wall Street Journal (no I am not a geek,
but I got tired the Texocentricity of the Dallas Morning News -- the only
place in the universe is Texas, the only professional sports teams are the
Cowboys, Rangers, Stars and the Mavericks...), where Rupert Murdoch blasted
the Neilson's for _inaccurately_ reporting the ratings for the Cowboys-Packers
game. If you are continuing to bombard USA, you might mention that their FK
ratings data is suspect.

well, I can't give blood because of heart medication I'm taking, so what
did I do? I dragged my best friend and husband to the blood drive and
made them give. and my dad and some of his friends are giving when they
where told about the cause. also, do you know it counts if you even tried to
give blood.

Cassie Carter asked

<<if I can't post anything about the current season until it is in reruns,
what *am* I allowed to write about on this list, anyway?>>

Just off the top of my head (that means it's no way official- it's not MY
list afterall), here are a few "okay" topics. (Jaye maybe it's time to repost
list topics. There seem to be a lot of newbies now.)

1) Any specific episode from the first 3 seasons, EXCEPT Strings and Fever,
which are still under spoiler protection.
(Please someone tell me if this is incorrect. Recent posts have confused me.)

2) Any speculation, observation, comment on *FK* Vampires and their world
/relationships (not vampires in general, tho. That goes somewhere else.)

3) Any comments/discussion on fiction read on FKFIC-L or any questions that
need to be answered for someone in the throes of writing FK fan fic.

4) Notices of shows/movies where the actors/actresses of FK can be seen in
other roles. This does NOT includes comments on their personal lives. That's
their business.

5) Notification of FK merchandise, articles, publicity.

6) Notices of FK get-togethers and related "quote lists" (although this one
has gotten some complaints on length from listmembers who pay by the line and
don't live in the party area)

7) Discussion of time periods/costumes/diseases/whatever that are introduced
in an FK ep

8) And, yes, efforts to Save Our Show, which is on the top of everyone's list
right now. After all, we need those new eps to give us something to talk
about *next year*.

I sleep all day and I work all Knight
I kill virgins, I skip and jump,
I like to pick wild punks

I'm just dropping a quick note to ask if anyone knows what stations in
the northern NJ (metro NY?) area broadcast FK. My uncle is supposed to
tape FK for me 'cause my syndies in Albany don't carry it (and I'm at
school in Virginia anyway) and he said he can't find it listed. I know I
saw it mentioned somewhere that some station carried it. Please help!!

Well, now that L'Phantom got me going, this flashed into my mind a few
days ago.

A Recasting of 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit'

Eddie Valiant - Schanke
Jessica Rabbit - Janette ('I'm not bad; I'm just written that way. No,
   wait aminute, I *am* bad.')
Deloris - Nat
Judge Doom - LaCroix
Baby Herman - Stonetree (with aopologies to Stonetreeites - but can't you
   just *see* it?)
Benny the Cab - the Caddy

My only real problem is that, as a Knightie, I cannot recommend casting
Nick as Roger Rabbit. No, I can't, really. <eg>
