Subject: A New Game!

I have an announcement to make:

The Jamie-not-smoking thing is just not going to happen.

Yes, I am perfectly aware that I wrote a post not long ago about how we
shouldn't/couldn't/mustn't renege on our sacrificial vows. Yes, that was
me. I said that. I admit it.

And rather than go into a long, involved monologue on all the completely
valid reasons why quitting smoking is a VERY bad thing for Jamie at this
particular time, why quitting is actually worse for my health than smoking
itself... easier simply to concede the obvious: I'm caving. I'm a
pitiful, weak creature, and I can't do it.

There is the mildly extenuating fact that "we" didn't pull this off; the
continuation of the third season is purely business, and has nothing
whatsoever to do with our efforts. "We" have not yet been noticed. This
is something that has to change, naturally. But that's not the point of
this post.

The point of this post is that two hours without a cigarette is enough to
transform me into a twelve-foot hulking beast with porcupine quills and
fangs and claws, dripping venom and wielding a chainsaw, intent on homicide
and mass destruction -- and this is not a useful character trait at the
moment.

Naturally, I understand that penance must be paid. Something else must be
done, to make up for my grievous lack of integrity. Somehow, I must
balance the cosmic karmic scales, so that I may redeem myself.

And in the spirit of fairness, I am inviting my fellow listmaniacs to offer
input on just what that 'penance' might be.

I await your comments with immense trepidation.

Hi all,

Thought this might amuse everyone. I was telling my doctor why I was doing
more exercising (my vow to ride the Healthrider at least three times a week
for at least 20 minutes) and was explaining how USA dropped the show mid
season and he said:

"Oh, USA is a white trash network."

I thought it was funny, hope it didn't offend anyone.

Is FOREVER KNIGHT popular with the general public? I found out today.
I was sending a wire to Jon Feltheimer at Tri-Star from a local
mailing/packing/faxing place. After I sent the wire, the owner
asked me What show are you trying to save, if you don't mind my asking?"
Not at all," I said, It's called FOREVER KNIGHT." You're KIDDING!
They're canceling FK?" he said. FOREVER KNIGHT? But that's my favorite
show!" said the clerk. One of the customers looked up and said, Did
I hear that right? No more FOREVER KNIGHT? They can't DO that!"
Oh, no, that's my son's favorite too!" said another lady. And the last
customer in the shop said, ALL of you like it too? I NEVER miss it!"
And every single one of them asked me for the addresses to USA and
Tri-Star so that they could write!
Now, if this had happened at a SF bookstore it wouldn't have struck
me so. But here is a show that they want to cancel because Neilsen says
so few are watching and yet, in a regular shipping facility full of
ordinary people, EVERY SINGLE PERSON present had not only heard of it,
but watched it and liked it enough to want to DO something to save it!
Pretty good numbers, I'D say! And a pretty convincing demonstration
that the viewer base for FOREVER KNIGHT is much MUCH bigger than anyone
ever thought!

Hi All!

I just wanted to say what a great job everyone is doing.
I think you're all amazing.

I don't know if I should post this here, but here goes.

Here are two addresses for those of you who live in the
Cincinnati, OH and Lexington, KY area. I've written two
letters to each. WXIX-TV in Cincinnati carries FK and I
wrote thanking them and asking them to ask for FK at the
NATPE. WDKY-TV in Lexington aired FK before
it went to USA. I wrote to them asking if they would pick
it back up and also to ask for it at the NATPE. I hope this
helps.

OK everyone, the Hormel product that was advertised was SPAM LITE. As far
as I know there wasn't an ad during FK for the regular SPAM; correct me if
I'm wrong and you remember a SPAM ad. I recall that the ad for SPAM LITE
was shown during "Blackwing" in December on USA.

No, I am not biased by the fact that I have a can of SPAM LITE sitting on
top of my computer right now as inspiration. ;)

Of course Hormel makes a lot of other convenient canned foods, like
chili, corned beef, etc. You can tell them you ran out and bought a
bunch of their products based on an ad for SPAM LITE during FK!

If you are planning on contacting sponsors and you have web access, there
is an absolutely terrific section on sponsors on Jamie's "Save Forever
Knight" page. Point your web browser to:
  http://members.aol.com/cuznjamimr/adv/mastradv.htm

This lists advertisers by product. Pick the products you buy or plan to
start buying, & write or call.

If you can't recall whether the ad appeared on USA or on a syndicated
station, just say that you watch FK on both. I think they'll understand.

At this point Hormel and America On-Line should be so impressed with the
letters/calls/e-mails sent to them by this group that they should be
willing to sponsor the show together! ;)

Imagine if you will this annoucement during the show:

"Forever Knight -- brought to you by SPAM and SPAM LITE, foods that last
*forever*; and by America On-Line -- 'You've got mail from FORKNI-L!' "
(The latter said of course by that official voice on AOL that greets you
when you have e-mail in your inbox.)

Okay, that's *5* lines... but this is a really great PR story. If I had the
poster's address, I'd be writing offlist. This needs to be written up, and
gotten to the LOCAL PAPER, RADIO, TV, etc. wherever that happened. (And
then xeroxes of the story need to go into all the Press Kits.)

Dianne, *please* put me in touch with roibinn. I know Cynthia and the others

Hi, everyone!

I just thought you guys might want to see this. When Ms. Norat-Phillips
responded to Jane S.'s letter, she didn't really answer the question
about a 4th season so I gave it a try. I think she answered the question
this time, but I'm not really sure if I'm interpretating it properly.
I think she's saying that WKBW wants to air a fourth season, but she
doesn't really come right out and say it.

Anyways, the respnse to my letter is below. My comments are in the sqare

Forever Knight. Yours is the twelfth communication I've had this week.
[That's good to know! How about we make it even stronger? :-)]

Unfortunately I don't hold out much hope for this show. [Uh oh!] As you
know we have a contractual agreement to carry Forever Kight until the end
of August [That means the rest of the 3rd season, at least] and we are
planning to honor that commitment as long as the show is delivered. [I'm
interpreting this as they want to keep airing FK. Does this mean
a 4th season as well...what do you think?] Hiwever, if there are no
original episodes being produced I'm sure Columbia will not offer it out
again in syndication.

Hope the fans of Forever Knight find something else they enjoy watching on
NewsChannel 7.

Feel free to share you ideas and opinions with us.

Well no, but I'll bet no vampire ever sported a rhinestone dog collar. Which
begs the question, if FK were successfully transferred to Warner Brothers
network, would they proceed to 'modify' it further by adding a companion
werewolf to Nick's vampire? Not farfetched, seeing as USA deliberately
stuffed Tracey and Vachon onto the show to adapt it to their desired
demographic. If we carry this concept further, we can postulate that if FK
went to the Cartoon Network, Nick's new partner would be Scooby Doo, if it
went to Discovery Channel his new partner would be Shamu, if it went to MTV
he would have one of the Jacksons as a partner, and if it went to The Weather
Channel, he would be saddled with Dr. Hope, the Hurricane expert.

Of course, it required a Ravenette to think of this.

Of course, it is the ONLY way a Ravenette should be treated.

I think that if we get a fourth season and Susan cuts her hair, she should
be treated to the whole luxury spa/makeover thing.

I do believe that Janette would want it that way.

"I wanted to ask if you plan on buying a fourth season of Forever Knight."

"We've cancelled a few shows recently because of the ratings--things get
cancelled because of the ratings--but Forever Knight hasn't been cancelled.
It's not doing great, but it's been picking up and does pretty well."

"I wanted to get a fourth season press kit--" (Little lie, but I <would>
like one) "And I've been told that TriStar won't be putting out a fourth
season unless they get calls from the syndicators asking them to put out a
fourth season."

"Is that a FOX show?"

"No, it's a TriStar show."

"If you need the number for TriStar, I can give it to you--"

"No, I HAVE, that number, thanks anyway. TriStar has said that they don't
want to hear from ME, they want to hear from YOU and any of the syndicators
who want a fourth season. I know the NATPE conference is in a couple of
weeks. Do you know if the station was planning to buy FK?"

"Well, they don't let me go, so I don't know, but the ratings have been
okay, so I can't see why not. What you should do is calls us back in four
to six weeks, after NATPE--"

"No--that will be too late. TriStar is NOTgoing to offer a new season of FK
at NATPE unless they hear from the stations before NATPE. They want to know
there are enough stations interested before they'd be willing to offer it at
NATPE. Could you pass along the word to have someone call TriStar and tell
them that you're interested in picking the show up at NATPE?"

"I'm pretty certain we're going to pick up the new season--"

"There will be NO NEW SEASON, unless you have someone call and tell them
that you'd like to buy it at NATPE."

"Oh. Okay."

"Thank for your time. And could you make certain that someone calls TriStar
and mentions that they want to purchase Forever Knight for WNYW for a fourth
season, because I'd really like to see a fourth season of Forever Knight on
WNYW."

This is pretty much verbatim. The woman was very nice, but couldn't quite
grasp what I was on about. I think I repeated my request to have them call
TriStar enough times so that she'll pass along the message, but just to be
on the safe side, I'm faxing them a follow-up letter thanking them for
talking to me and mentioning again that they have to call Tri-Star.

Now all I have to do is wait for Philly to thaw and call THEM.

Regards
When we get a fourth season, the hair GOES.

5. FOREVER KNIGHT
Actually used by Geraint Wyn Davies!
The blood used on the series is really the black current drink Ribena in an
almost undiluted concentrate form. You could probable add anything you want
to it. Its really sweet.

Hope you guys enjoy!

Forever Yours:

Cousin Jenni the Jester

PS. For those of you whom are still guessing on that little french bit I
pulled in a recent letter. The answer is:

Lacroix's secret little cabbage head and love.

I know, its corney, but its about the only few words in French that seemed
to stick in my mind since high school, which was a long time ago. C'est la
vie, mes amies!

Subject: Confession/Resolution

Okay, I think i've got one. As long as anyone here has known me, I have
been a blonde in disguise. At the moment, I'm in the process of growing
out what was SUPPOSED to be a temporary (out in 24 shampoos) black color
job left over from my last show; I'm leaving what's growing in its
natural color until I can cut off the remaining black without looking
like Sinead O'Connor. (Right now I'm at about a 1:2 ratio; I look like a
gold-plated skunk...) By that time, I expect that we will know one way
or another about fourth season.

So...

I hereby pledge that if we get a third season, I will not color my hair
for ONE FULL YEAR.

This pledge is null and void if I am required to do so for a role (I do
still have *some* sense of priorities... ;-) )

However, the challenge is increased by the nice package of henna waiting
patiently for me in my bathroom cupboard. Acceptable balance?

Prepared to weather twelve months of blonde jokes for FK...

Subject: Fan Q Nomination forms are available!

Pardon this post, but it's in the way of bringing more attention to FK and
FK Fiction.

Each year, awards are given in May at MediaWest*Con for fanfiction published
the previous year. The nomination forms are now available for all fan
fiction printed (this means hard-copy, read fanzine printing) between
January 1, 1995 and December 31, 1995.

I haven't seen the form yet, but there are usually a number of categories,
including Best Novel (or solo publication), Best Short Story, Best Fanzine
(collection of short stories), etc., for a particular series. In past
years, adult and slash stories were given their own categories.

For two years in a row, we've managed to send in a sufficient number of
nominations to warrant a "Forever Knight" category and all but one of the
short story nominees from last year were originally posted on FK-FIC!

The rules (and more information) will be available with the nomination form.
Send a self-addressed, stamped envelope to:

Susan Cooper
0000 Xxxxxxxxxx Xxxxx
Xxxxxxxx Xxxx, XX 00000

And request a nomination form for the Fan Q's.

IN ADDITION, I'm putting together a list this year (like I did last year) of
all FK fiction printed in fanzines that would be eligible for nomination
this year. If you have published a zine or written fiction that's appeared
in a published zine, please send me:

The name of the story/poem/novel (and indicate which it is)
The name of the fanzine
The copyright date (publication date)
The name of the author
The name of the editor or publisher
The editor or publisher's address
Whether the item is a crossover with another media
Whether the item is adult in nature or slash

(If they require more information this year, I'll let you know.)

By the end of next week I hope to have a list of fiction eligible for the
1995 awards available for dissemination and posting. If you would like to
post the list on your website or want a copy to use when filling out your
nomination forms, please e-mail me.

Remember, supporting the writers and publishers of FK fiction is supporting
the future of FK--whether we win or lose our fight for a fourth season, FK
fiction will continue to keep the show alive in the hearts and minds (and
other places--for the JADFE list) of many fans.

Regards

When we get a fourth season, the hair GOES.
