While this hasn't as been a glamourously-posted listrule as, say, 'keep
on topic', there is a little known, seldom used rule about posting
binaries to the list. Please don't. They hog up space and ppl have to
pay to download it and then delete it when they can't convert it.

Your cooperation is appreciated.

Subject: FK on tonight

According to my cable guide (which I received in late December) Forever
Knight will air tonight at 9pm. FK will also air Mondays (10pm) & Tuesdays
(9pm) for the rest of the month. This agrees with a previously posted
schedule. There may be further showings Thursday late night (early Fridays)
but my cable guide does not list USA after midnight.
USA has been advertising tonight's episode during shows this afternoon and
evening.

What really gets me so upset about this whole situation is that USA
didn't even have the common courtesy to finish the season out. I can

Paragon apparently has to deliver 22 new episodes to Europe and Canada, so
TriStar can't pull the plug.... However..... TriStar has given the order to
sell off the sets, props, etc. at the end of this season and they have
basically said there is no way they want to do a fourth season. The word
has to go out that we only have a few weeks to try and convince TriStar to
continue the show into season 4. The fans can make a difference, But we
will need a miracle! You can post this on the 'net, but just say it came

Oh please don't cut your hair. My mother in law convinced me to cut mine.
(She said it was only going to be a trim, but bribed the stylist to cut
it all off, urg!) My mother in law isn't that bad anymore, when I got
pregnat I convinced her that doing anything to my hair would dammage my
child. two years nine months later, my hair is still not where it use to
be, which was waist leanth, and I feel as if I was insane for ever
agreeing to the trim in the first place. My mother in law and I still
disagree on long hair, she sees it as not being professional. While I
think I can look professional with my hair up or in a tail. I also think
it's much easier to take care of. When I had short hair, I was always
having to get perms, or get up really early and curl it. Now I simply
comb it and put it up. I would urdge you not to cut your hair.
Perhaps you could give up something else for FK.
In Llewellyn's 1996 Magical Almanac, it lists today as being the pagan
welsh holiday of Geraint's day. Something compelled me to put that on the
list.
I like the more gentle side of LaCroix, because it give him a motivation
for doing the things he does, which he didn't have when he was just evil.
But I still don't want him to get along with Nick, I like it when they
play off each other. there's too many reasons for Nick not to be too
crazy for LaCroix.

Which is really funny because USA also did the captioning, at least on
the first two (three?) seasons. I think the current season is
captioned, but I haven't been watching. (Taping, yes, but not
watching yet.)

Another "cable" channel (satellite, really, I think: Encore 5) used
to show Highlander every day at about 6:00. They not only didn't
censor it, they showed the long ("European") versions with no
commercials! I was sad when it switched over to USA, but they do have a
bigger audience now.

The only thing that used to be captioned in Highlander was the scene
they stole from the movie for the opening. It said in the captions
"Ramirez!", which would hang on your screen sometimes through the
whole episode. :-)

Uh, have you watched "The WB"? Other than Pinky & The Brain (which is
mostly reruns of old stuff) and Animaniacs (ditto, and the source for
the other), it's really not very good. Competent (but not much
better) sitcoms, some of which didn't fly at other networks (Sister,
Sister and Kirk for example).

However, now that I think about it, they do seem to try to target very
specific demographics with their shows (that apparently miss me).
They might have room for a show like FK if it fills a gap in their
viewership- which, I guess it would!

It's so much easier to take care of, and keep it looking neat. I say go for

Subject: Evidence of FK in culture

I was reading the anthology "Tomorrow Bites", and the essay "The Cultured
Werewolf" starts with an interesting reference:

"If vampires are the gentlemen of the monster kingdom, werewolves are
distinctly lower class. We picture Dracula in evening dress, complete with
black tie and cloak. Even though he wears blue jeans, TV's "Forever
Knight" is a gentleman; his motives are noble. It's much easier to be a
vampire than a werewolf. For to be a werewolf is to eschew civilization,
to become a beast. No werewolf ever wore a cummerbund."

It's kind of neat to see FK mentioned as a show with which the author
*expects* the reader to be familiar....in a book, no less... :) Just
that sort of off-handed reference which makes you think about how far
Forever Knight has filtered into modern culture....

Given the content of the reference, I have to ask: although we've gotten
to see Nick in formal dress in the flashbacks, have we seen him in
fancy dress in the present? Or LaCroix, for that matter?

Although, the image of LaCroix rollerblading along, vamped out, with a cape
and tux on, all the while making his usual comments about Nick and his
fascination with mortal activities, does have a certain appeal to it..... :)

Perry with a cape and cummerbund would be amusing, too.... :) Although a
flea collar might clash with the rest of the outfit..... :)

So I'll post publicly what I posted to Karen Tobin privately, for what it's
worth (which she and I seem to agree ain't much):

Karen said:
>I don't have a fax # for TriStar. I'm doing some more searches
>(looking for syndie sales names) and if I come upon one I'll let you
>know. The phone # is 310-202-1234.

And I said:
Well, I have several things to report:

(1) When you call that number and ask for Mr. Feltheimer, you get passed to
a recording that says, "This is Jon Feltheimer's office. Please leave a
message." Wish I knew if this is new or not: could be we're having an effect.

(2) When I called back and spoke to the operator, telling her that I was
calling long distance from Boston, and that I really wanted to speak to a
human being to get a fax number for Mr. Feltheimer, she said that she was
not permitted to give out his direct fax number or his direct phone line --
but that she could give me the fax number for the mail room, and they "will
let him know when it arrives, and they can come down for it." I said fine
(well, it's not, not even a little -- but every little bit helps): the
number is 310-202-3272. One must put "Attention: Jon Feltheimer" on the
fax, she said. I should hope so.

(3) I then asked for the name of Mr. Feltheimer's secretary. It is Mimi
(pronounced Mih-mee by her) Ketelsen. I asked to speak to her, and got her
voicemail (at least it was *hers*). I left a message, saying that I wished
to speak with her about Forever Knight and get her fax number...

Update, of sorts:
I also left my phone number. She has not called. Who knows?

I did send a fax to Mr. Feltheimer at that number.

What I've been saying for a while now (ever since Meredith got the free TV
ad facilities/work from unsuspected FK fans) is that there isn't a closet
big enough to hold this group!

Or: there are not only more of us than they think there are, there are more
of us than *we* think there are! This is USABLE, if someone can get a
handle on precisely how. I hope there are some takers for this...

Note: yes, this relates to Anne Pinzow's excellent longer-term ideas about
ratings in general and invisible demographics and other things not too
fierce to mention. But I mean that there's something to be grabbed here in
the short term, too -- I'm just a little myopic about it at the moment.

Please someone -- HOW DO WE USE THIS?!

Can anyone tell me where to download an SOSFK flyer? I looked on the
webpage but couldn't find one. I was planning on putting some up around
UC Riverside even if I'd have to make a flyer up on my own but I usually
forget something important so I'd rather not go that way.

Subject: The Raven on Living Fiction MUSH

Hello, all!

I've spent the last couple of days setting up a small FK area on Living
Fiction MUSH. To get there, telnet to purple.cow.net 8888 and either
login as a guest or create a character.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
To use the guest account:
connect guest guest
Out
var [Various Worlds]
3 [Modern]
TR [The Raven]

To create a character at login:
create <charactername> <password>
You only need to do this ONCE--and make sure you write
your charactername and password down somewhere! Then type:
@lock me=me
@sex me=<male or female>
@lock/enterlock me=me
@lock/uselock me=me
@set me=ENTER_OK
@desc me=<what your character looks like>
@tel me=#6309 [to teleport yourself to the Raven]
In addition, if you want to play a vampire, type:
&RACE me=vampire
@set me/RACE=VISUAL

Vampires in the Raven have nifty powers, just like on the show.

"<message> to say something
: to pose--:walks across the room will appear to to others as <charactername>
        walks across the room.
+new for a MUSH tutorial

NOTES: Per Living Fiction's policy, characters/places/objects from the
show are (c) Paragon Entertainment. LF has few restrictions, and you can
play canonical characters if you want. If someone already has the
character you want, try a slightly different name. There's room enough
for everybody!

Nancy's Top Ten Reasons to Logon to LF:

10. You don't have to wait until AOL schedules a chat.

 9. You don't have to wait until 11:00 P.M. so you can
        /join #foreverknight

 8. A chance to meet someone roleplaying your favorite
        character.

 7. A chance to roleplay the character yourself!

 6. A great spot to plan the next War.

 5. Two words: faction debates.

 4. To give you a "recreation break" after all those
        SOS letters!

 3. To give you something to do with your computer other
        than read fanfic.

2. To give you something to do with your computer other
        then WRITE fanfic.

And the #1 reason to login:

 1. To virtually break all those gnarly FK resolutions!!
