I believe people are sending telegrams. However unfortunatly I can

Subject: spam :b

Here are some more spam inspired recipes from the state with the highest
per capita spam consumption :) BTW I am the only person in the whole
family that doesn't like spam. I'm surrounded by spam eaters...they would
faint in shock if I started eating it for the sake of FK ;-)

teriyaki spam (recipe from a friend who can't eat spam any other way
because it's too gross)

Slice spam. Place in frying pan. Add some shoyu (soy sauce) and sugar. The
shoyu and sugar mixture will thicken in to a glaze for the spam. Fry till
nice and brown (the spam pink will be nicely covered up). Serve hot with
rice.
_____
pinapple spam (my dad's favorite)

Slice spam. Place in a rectagular cake pan in a single layer. Stud spam
with whole cloves. Cover spam with a can of crushed, cubed or sliced
pineapple (dad recommends crushed). Place in oven and bake till spam takes
on a golden color. Serve hot with rice.
______
Fried rice with spam

Add spam to your favorite fried rice recipe in place of other types of meat
(or in fact in addition). Spam should be thinly sliced into match sticks.

enjoy!

Okay. Dug out December's Locus magazine (the January one doesn't have con
listings in it...) and here's what we have:

January:

Arisia, Boston, January 12-14
Chattacon, Chattanooga, TN, January 12-14
Confusion, Michigan, January 12-14
Rustycon, Tacoma, Washington, January 12-14
Tropicon, Ft. Lauderdale, January 12-14
Reality Check, Annapolis, January 26-28

February:

Cremecon, Glendale, Wisconsin, February 2-4
Hurricon Clive, Ft. Walton, Florida, February 2-4
Potlatch, Portland, Oregon, February 2-4
Radcon, Pasco, Washington, February 16-18
Shevacon, Charlottesville, VA February 16-18
Anaconism, Lakewood, Colorado, February 16-19
Con-Cave, Park City, Kentucky, February 23-25
Con-Dor, San Diego, CA February 23-25
Geocon, Olympia, Washington February 23-25

There are more. I've edited out the obvious "we don't belong here" ones.

There is at least one con that I know of that's not listed, and that's
Escapade, which is being held in Santa Barbara, February 16-19. I know of
one list member who's going to be there, and I might be there as well.

If any of these are in your neck of the woods and you're interested in
helping the cause, just holler!

Yes I know this is annoying.
Someone please tell me how to get off the list.
Privately please.
One reason I want to get off the list is there is so much personal stuff
going. Take parties for example. It is nice to say hey everyone I am in
New York and having a party. The people who want to go should contact
that person and then it should be talked about off of the list. Then
later please do not assume we are all terribly interested in every little
detail of that party. If it relates to the show and all that is cool but
there are so many people on the list who will never know who you are or
the little inside jokes about what happened during a so and so party.
Think before you type boys and girls.

Peace and Love and Long Life.

Hiya. Speaking as WebGoddess, here...

Is there, anywhere in existence, screen captures of the opening credits of
FK, from any season? Specifically, the parts where we get the actors'
names in that dripping-blood logo typeface?

I'm looking to expand my collection of logo 'font' graphics, for use on the
web page when I do that massive update I keep talking about (sometime this
week, when I have new data). I currently have fourteen letters of the
alphabet; would like to work out the remaining twelve (and variants for the
first fourteen).

If anyone can help me w/this, e-mail me HERE AT PIPELINE, off-list please!

On page 24 of the Brockton (Massachusetts) "Enterprise" Newspaper
(Sports section back end is the entertainment/tv area) on Monday
January 8th 1996, just below and to the right of a Star Trek DS9
article was the following: (please pardon the copying oh "Enterprise"
but is it for a VERY worthy cause)

Title on bold: Another popular genre show,
"Forever Knight" - about a vampire cop in Toronto - is generating a lot
of noise on the Internet because the USA cable network has cancelled it
in the middle of the third season, with completed episodes yet to air.
A local viewer has sent word of a national campaign to save the show, with
gimmicks ranging from contributing to the Pediatric AIDS Foundation in
the show's name, to sending lottery scratch tickets to Columbia/TriStar
Television in hopes of financing the remainder of the season. If you're
a fan and want to let USA know what you think write to: Mr. Rod Perth,
President and Programming Executive Vice President, USA Networks, 2049

Actually, it was my father, who often watches FK, who let me know
about this article in the paper.

Subject: Another link to the SFK page

Back last week, I checked out the Sci-Fi Channel's Dominion web page. They
have a whole section on TV web pages. I noticed they had a Save MST3K page
so I wrote and asked them to add the Save FK page. However, since USA owns
SFC I didn't want to put them in a bad position, or cause other SOS pages
to be removed from their site, so I gave them an out on that (we are a
considerate fandom after all).

The Webguy wrote back to me today and told me that being in a "dicey
position" (my term) made his job interesting, and that he was adding the
link to the page.

I always knew the people at SFC were cool despite who owns them, and now we
have proof. Please visit the page at:

You can't HONESTLY be proposing to send Ribena...

I cannot think of a better way to NOT get the show renewed.

Better you should send cans of spam... no, wait... SPAMbouquets! Carve the
pink stuff into little flowers, lacquer 'em, stick 'em on the end of green
fuzzy pipecleaners...

...and stick the Spamflowers into an empty Ribena bottle, as a vase.

Subject: PR on the Web / Site Suggestion

I think I've just found (1) two remarkably excellent places to put our
various PR releases; (2) similar adjectivally describable places to put
links to the SFK Webpage; and (3) an interesting idea to attract *even
more* people to the SFK Webpage (if it ain't too much work: I know Jamie's
 absolutely swamped).

The sites are

Stewart Brand's WELL: http://www.well.com/

which has places (more than one, I think -- someone with a faster link than
I should explore this) to list news and websites; and it has a link to

Awarenet: http://www.awarenet.com/

which talks, among other things, about a Cyberspace Be-in planned for
January 11 in San Francisco (maybe we can be part of this).

Also, Awarenet has a feature called VoteLink, which won a Best Interactive
Site award. One uses it to vote on and discuss political issues. So, the
idea: what if we did Bea's Short Form Survey (the 20 Questions done for
Arisia) on the Website? We could find out demographics (and remove
duplicates if we did it by email addresses) on who hits the site -- and
encourage more people to do so, since people *like* interactive sites, and
like to make their opinions heard.

Scary thought: what about a hotlink for email messages to TPTB? Is that
allowed/legal? Is it a good idea, even if it's okay? Is it possible? Just a
 thought...

Anyway, do check out these two sites: they could be good places to spread
 the word.

Subject: Response from WKBW

Hi y'all,

After reading several posts that encouraged us to write to our syndicated
station, I searched around and found the web page for WKBW, the Buffalo
station that carries Forever Knight. They had a place for sending e-mail to
the Programming Director, so I sent her a nice message, praising Forever
Knight, thanking them for giving it such a nice timeslot (12:05 a.m. on
Saturday/Sunday is much better than some I've heard of), and asking that
they continue showing FK, and that they request it at NATPE.

The following is the response I got. I'm not really sure what to make of
it. I'm going to write back and ask her if this means that they won't be
showing the rest of the third season. I'll let you know what she says.

If nothing else, we now have the name of someone to write to at WKBW.

All it makes me want to do is start writing more and more and more letters.

I knew it! :-)

I've never taken a German course, but I know a few little bits, here and
there. The two _worst_ mistakes to make, as I was told, are "Ich bin heiss"
and "Ich bin colte" (blast, I forget the spelling of that one). In the case
of the second, it literally means "I am dead".

That's why one is supposed to say "Ich habbe heiss" (literally "I have hot")
to say "I'm hot", and "Ich habbe colte" ("I have cold"). I got a laugh out of
being told about those two potential boo-boo's.

Hmm, but if you send it in German, they won't have to send in the
translators... :-)

Subject: all-fandom boycott of USA?

Here's a random idea I had this afternoon after reading something Sharon had
on her NatPack page about how USA is buying up shows and stripping
'em/destroying 'em to get "free" stuff for the Sci-Fi Channel (sorry for the
bad paraphrasing...but that's the basic idea, as I understand it):

Since USA is doing this not only to FK, but did do it to TekWar, and is
apparently tampering with Highlander, as well...what if there were to be a
cross-fandom boycott of USA?

Maybe this procedure is good business for USA, but it's bad news for us fans,
the very people they're trying to "please" on the Sci-Fi Channel! With our
numbers, plus fans of HL, TekWar, etc., not to mention the sheer number of
SF/fantasy fans of *all* sorts out there who are aware of and displeased by
what's going on (or who need to know!)....we could cause quite a stir, I
think, and raise a little consciousness, garner a little media attention,
possibly turn things around, if not for FK, then for all of the good little
shows to come in the future...

Now, I don't know if we want to make USA *too* angry--we do want FK, after
all! But still...I think that it would pay to make use, somehow, of our
knowledge of how the "other side" operates.

This is a half-formed, stray thought, as I said, but I'd like to open it up
to discussion.

Opinions, everybody?

Yes, Marty Feldman had Graves' disease and so do I. Excessive blinking

Hey Zachary--lighten up. Relating such info helps in creating a sense of
community. Frankly, that sense of community is what has empowered this
list during this crisis. Since that sense of community seems to distress
you leaving the list is a good idea. Bye.

This is a potential ally! At a minimum, we should send her the
press releases, but definitely also write back and ask if she is willing
to ASK FOR the show at NATPE. TriSTar is a sitting duck there...

Also, ask how she know it wasn't available; it's been interesting
how many programming execs at stations don't know that yet.

Jane - Ms. Sarah Norat-Phillips of WKBW does not sound like much of a fan to
me. She sounds totally disinterested in the fact that the show isn't going
to be available for syndication. Are there other people in the Buffalo area,
on-line or off, who could pelt her with a heavy load of letters and suggest
that the show might become available for syndication if Program Directors got
off their duffs and asked for it? People might also let her know that they
don't care about "other interesting programs to fill the time slot? (I don't
want another one, I want *that* one! in other words).

Of course one doesn't want to anger a program director, so it should be done
nicely. But this lady does need to be made aware that there is more than one
person asking for the show (as if they're precious 12:05 a.m. time slot was
worth much!). Too bad you can't turn her on to the Net... If nothing else,
give her some idea of just how much is going on to SOS; might be an
eye-opener for her.

I'm going to be in Seattle from Thursday until early Sunday morning. Can
anyone in that area tell me if FK is on in Seattle during those days; if so,
what time? Anything going on regarding SOS activities by Seattle area folks
that I could help with? If nothing else, I don't want to miss the next show,
and I'm not too trusting of my mother to work the VCR correctly while I'm
gone.

If people want to send something besides the same old letters, try cards that
are blank inside so you can write your own message. I've found some really
great cards with unusal pictures that you can use as a basis for your
comments. ie. a little dog flat on its back with a fan blowing over it (you
know how dogs lay to cool off from the heat? -- a funny pic that catches the
eye, at least) and I wrote inside "The news about FK knocked me flat on my
back!!), then proceeded with the rest of the message. Or a man sitting in a
chair in front of an audio speaker that appears to be blasting him half out
of the seat, "The news about FK blew me away!" You get the idea.... The
point is, its catchier than the same old letter, humourous, and they have to
open the card to read it. Works for me...

        Gang:
Has USA removed FK from Mondays 10 p.m. already? My _TV Guide_ said
that FK was supposed to be on, but I turn on the tube and _Silk Stalkings_
is on.
Kinda funny that it gave me an ObFK: the show started out in a strip
club with lots of scantily clad women, and I thought -- "this _could_ be FK;
after all, Uncle does allow strippers now." In a way it's sad that you can't
tell the two shows apart, though.
If someone can tell me via private e-mail that this is indeed what
USA has done, I'd appreciate it. Thanks. Y'all are great.

Hmm, I guess USA was serious about that cancellation thing.

I just tried to watch FK at 10pm EST on Monday, when the TV Guide had it in
the schedule, & ended up getting Silk Stalkings instead. I guess I'll
try again at 11pm, when the TV Guide said Silk Stalkings was supposed to
air. Maybe they switched time slots. I assumed USA would at least
finish out the month with FK!

When I saw the first few seconds I just <knew> it was Silk Stalkings. I
remembered HOD started with that "Let's get naked" line, but I didn't
remember it being <that> bad.

I wonder if that's the last we're going to see of FK on USA.
