Is there someone in the New York area who could call the NY Times to get
their ad rates?

If we want fast, nationwide publicity, I think this is the way to go. I'm
waaay out west in CA or I'd do it myself.

A large-ish ad in the Times would generate *lots* of publicity, and quickly!

Well, since everyone else is doing it...

If FK is saved I promise I will... do the salt & bicarb sinus rinse twice a
week, every week. And let my father use the TV in the lounge more often. And
try to mark childrens' books on time this coming school year.

Is that enough?

You have Canadian first-season eps? Oh GOOD! Do you have the blooper reel?

Subject: Letter to KK and WPRI

Hi, guys --

Since other people are posting theirs (and here's a cc for you, Karen), I
thought I'd let you know what I wrote to both KK and (with suitable changes
in the last paragraph) Robert Finke, Programming Manager at WPRI (the
Providence channel on which I see FK).

Note: I called Mr. Finke's office, and when his secretary said he was out
for a few hours and asked if she could help, I told her I had heard about a
possible cancellation of FK, and asked if she knew anything about it. She
said that I should send Mr. Finke a fax -- "the more faxes and letters the
better." I said I would so do.

Again, this is basically the same letter I sent to both places --

Dear Ms. Koplovitz:

I have heard on the Internet that the program, Forever Knight, is in danger
of being cancelled. I am very concerned about this: this is a valuable and
well-wrought program, and I would hate to see it leave the airwaves.

It is one of the very few dramatic programs that deals thoughtfully and
consistently with serious issues (e.g., the morality of suicide, parental
responsibility, and the subjugation of women) without trivializing them,
while maintaining strong central characters, fast-moving plots (usually
doubled through the use of a backstory), and believable dramatic tension
(while not foresaking elements of humor and romance). It is well written
and excellently acted: even this year's new additions have now melded
seamlessly into the ensemble cast.

>From my professional perspective, I am especially pleased with Forever
Knight's treatment of relationships, and the fact that the central theme of
the possibility of spiritual redemption is treated as a potential joint
venture between science and faith: surely that approach has a strong
resonance in this changing end-of-millenium world.

I would very much appreciate knowing (1) when/if you plan to air new
episodes this season; (2) how many of them you are definitely scheduled to
air; and (3) if you plan to renew your involvement with Forever Knight for
the next season.

                                                Cordially,

                                                Rae Montor, M.A.
                                                Martha's Vineyard

In Mr. Finke's fax, I changed (3) in the last paragraph to read:(3) if you
plan to buy Forever Knight again for next season at the NATPE convention in
January.

Thanks, Valerie Meachum and Jacqueline Lichtenberg, for paragraph 3!

I've bought cable time -- and it's true, on *cable* (e.g., USA) advertisers
specify general time periods (7-10 PM, 1-4 AM, etc.), not spots in
particular shows. This is true, as far as I now, on all cable stations,
relating to all shows.

Not sure why I didn't spot that before.

It is not, however, true on local stations. (As far as I know. Since I last
looked. And other disclaimers...)

I look forward to someone else's exegesis relating this to KK's decision
(especially given the ratings of USA in general posted here earlier).

Hmmm...

They do indeed, Sandra -- and for those for whom, as for you, even digest
option is too hefty, Dianne Theresa De Sha posted the following:

Subject: OVERWHELMED? GET HELP! :-)))

Someone mentioned going no-mail now that they're back to work tomorrow,
but still wanting to be kept updated. I imagine many will be in the
same boat at some point this week. May I recommend the Down-n-Dirty
Email Loop? <g>

It's been through several revisions of purpose and focus, but now it is:

A cut-and-paste, quick, and short-as-possible digest of the
essential info and updates from the lists as they come in.
One or two pieces of mail a day. (And maybe a bounce or two
if something big comes in :-) This is designed for a> people
who can't get to the website to pick up changes, b> those who
are off-list but want to be updated, and/or c> those who are
overwhelmed by the list volume and want to be able to get the
vital info as quick as possible.

If you're keeping up-to-date on the lists, it's redundant. But if you
think it will help, let me know and I'll add you.

(when you sign up, let me know if you want the old ones [from midday
Fri on] or not-- if in doubt, I'll send you all 7 or 8 of them :-)

(Standard disclaimer: I have no 'sources', no inside information; I know
nothing more than anyone else.)

Ummm, if TriStar were obligated to finish the season without USA's
commitment, I don't think we'd be so frantic and panic-stricken right now.
(You mean you're not panic-stricken? Why not? This is a fine time to
panic! The sky is falling! The sky is falling! <WHACK! upside the head>
Okay, I feel better now...)

Imo, it's more important now than ever to emphasize the SYNDICATED stations
and TRISTAR and SONY. If USA has already withdrawn their support (and has
there been anything more 'official' on this than phone calls?) then the
syndicated angle might be our best shot.

The fact is, we have very little hard data on what's going on, and what
happens if this, or if that... but I think it's safe to assume that TriStar
has some sort of 'out', and that if we're going to make anything happen, it
has to be *now*.

Did I say 'best shot'? We don't know if we have ANY shot. But that never
stopped Nick; is it gonna stop us? Not likely.

Email me off-list. I'll be coming up on Friday by AmTrak in

I am not sure that they have any power to save Forever Knight, however, we

Subject: SOS: Another great idea

Ooh ooh ooh!

I wish we'd thought of this earlier. (This is not my idea, it belongs to J.
Lichtenberg, so I can't take credit).

Her suggestion is:
Get some Manhattanites (or Brooklynites, etc.,) together, make up some large
SOS FK signs, and *go down and stand in front of the "Today" show window*
while the show is being broadcast!!! (Come prepared to do a lot of standing
and not budge from your spots until the whole program is over, if you can
help it--- Me.)

Whaddya think? Let's hear from the Five Boroughs Contingent! Heck, why stop
there? Go on over, if you're anywhere in the tri-state area!

And what about the idea of getting a billboard somewhere where a major TV or
radio station would have to look at it directly outside their window? Or
near TriStar?!? What is the most influential radio and/or television station
near the LA and NY markets? There was a movie where Judy Holliday played an
aspiring actress and took out a single billboard with her own money to
advertise herself. Of course that was in the 1950's so I don't know if it is
feasible any more to get a single one. We may have to buy in bulk <VBG>.

Anyone in the NYC area:

The annual FANGORIA convention, a major Creation event, will take place
THIS WEEKEND at the Pennsylvania Hotel, opposite Penn Station, Jan 6-7.

WE MUST HAVE SOS FLYERS THERE!

WE MUST HAVE AT LEAST ONE REPRESENTATIVE THERE!

This is VITAL! FANGORIA is a large, vampire-oriented convention, for
goodness sakes. There MUST be FK fans there. There might even be
press coverage there. We must get out the word to this audience!

I have previous commitments for the weekend, but anyone who can help
with this, contact me asap by private e-mail and put FANGORIA in the
heading. We can't afford to pass up this opportunity to get the word
out to a large group of potential supporters!

Subject: Direction please?

Since USA has pulled out, do we still bother to send them correspondence
asking them to change their minds? Total waste of time?

OK. I assume now we concentrate on TriStar, Sony, local syndication and
sponsors. Is there anyone else we can focus on at TriStar in conjuction with
pelting Jon Feltheimer? Is there a specific person or department to
concentrate on at Sony? This morning I sent two faxes (yes, the number
worked, thanks) to dear Kay (I say that with a *very* tight jaw; the woman
must be made of stone) -- one was a heart felt letter encouraging her to keep
the show (I included a copy of my "chant", had to use it somewhere), then
thought to send a second with a copy of the nice letter I got from Bob
Ramsey, Program Director of our local station, just to show her FK can do
quite well in a good time-slot. For all the good it did.....

Then I sent a card to Bob Ramsey to let him know what is happening and to
encourage him to visit our "Save the Knight" table at NATPE and to work on
picking up the show. By the by, I really do not understand how this business
works. Who does the buying for "syndication"? Are our local stations
involved in the buying decision? What should I be saying to Bob or anyone
else I write to in regard to attending NAPTE and Saving the Knight?
Education please?

Sponsors -- I also wrote to SunCoast Motion Pictures; haven't had a reply yet
but it looks like it won't mean much if I do. How should we be approaching
sponsors if we don't know who makes decisions or not? I'd hate to waste a
lot of writing time, printer ink, etc. on someone who has absolutely no
involvement and who couldn't care less to boot! Direction please from the
more knowledgable folks on line...

When and where do we send our contribution to get the bags made for NATPE?
Are the bags still on, or what?

Finally -- are we simply trying to save the last 6 eps at this point, or are
we still trying to literally save the show? If Ger is already planning to
move (did this come about as a result of the cancellation?) then he is
certainly not planning to continue with FK... although I can understand his
perspective at this point. I'm definitely going to join the GWD fan club so
I can keep tabs on what he's doing career wise.

So -- answers please? Thanks gang -- SLG

I only asked because the last word previous to a schedule that was
on the FK newsgroup today was that only two eps (Strings and Fever)
were going to air *for sure*. Now there is indication that the other
three new eps filmed before Christmas break are scheduled for airing
in syndication. I was just curious if TriStar had any *legal* or
*contractual* obligation to syndication markets. I wasn't suggesting
that we stop our campaigning to save the show from cancellation. I
even want a fourth season (and beyond)! :)

Thanks for your patience with all this.

Three people have pointed out to me that posting the whole thing to the
Forever Knight lists twice was probably a bad idea. On retrospect, these
people are probably right. My reason was one of completeness only and not
an intent on my part to continue to post the list in that fashion. I had
initially planned to post updates, but I started to get all these requests
and I'm afraid I got carried away. If I have caused anyone any undue stress
with my zeal, you have my appologies.

>From now on the list is only available through private e-mail. If you want
it, you have to go through me. All people appearing on the list already are
on the mailing list for the list. You need not apply. <zillah@i.......>

Laurie Fenster has asked me to try to push the list into geographical
order. This is now what I'm working on. If you want this, you must ask me
privately. <zillah@i.......>

I have had other requests for graphs and studies and other such demograp
hical information. I can't. I don't feel real qualified to begin such a
work, I have no talent in this direction. Anyone can feel free to do
anything they like with the information on the list as far as a study goes.
I hand this little project off to someone else.

Again... my appologies.
