Note: I called Mr. Finke's office, and when his secretary said he was out for a few hours and asked if she could help, I told her I had heard about a possible cancellation of FK, and asked if she knew anything about it. She said that I should send Mr. Finke a fax -- "the more faxes and letters the better." I said I would so do. Again, this is basically the same letter I sent to both places -- Dear Ms. Koplovitz: I have heard on the Internet that the program, Forever Knight, is in danger of being cancelled. I am very concerned about this: this is a valuable and well-wrought program, and I would hate to see it leave the airwaves. It is one of the very few dramatic programs that deals thoughtfully and consistently with serious issues (e.g., the morality of suicide, parental responsibility, and the subjugation of women) without trivializing them, while maintaining strong central characters, fast-moving plots (usually doubled through the use of a backstory), and believable dramatic tension (while not foresaking elements of humor and romance). It is well written and excellently acted: even this year's new additions have now melded seamlessly into the ensemble cast. >From my professional perspective, I am especially pleased with Forever Knight's treatment of relationships, and the fact that the central theme of the possibility of spiritual redemption is treated as a potential joint venture between science and faith: surely that approach has a strong resonance in this changing end-of-millenium world. I would very much appreciate knowing (1) when/if you plan to air new episodes this season; (2) how many of them you are definitely scheduled to air; and (3) if you plan to renew your involvement with Forever Knight for the next season. Cordially, Rae Montor, M.A. Martha's Vineyard In Mr. Finke's fax, I changed (3) in the last paragraph to read:(3) if you plan to buy Forever Knight again for next season at the NATPE convention in January. Thanks, Valerie Meachum and Jacqueline Lichtenberg, for paragraph 3! (Standard disclaimer: I have no 'sources', no inside information; I know nothing more than anyone else.) Ummm, if TriStar were obligated to finish the season without USA's commitment, I don't think we'd be so frantic and panic-stricken right now. (You mean you're not panic-stricken? Why not? This is a fine time to panic! The sky is falling! The sky is falling! <WHACK! upside the head> Okay, I feel better now...) Imo, it's more important now than ever to emphasize the SYNDICATED stations and TRISTAR and SONY. If USA has already withdrawn their support (and has there been anything more 'official' on this than phone calls?) then the syndicated angle might be our best shot. The fact is, we have very little hard data on what's going on, and what happens if this, or if that... but I think it's safe to assume that TriStar has some sort of 'out', and that if we're going to make anything happen, it has to be *now*. I'd hate to waste a lot of writing time, printer ink, etc. on someone who has absolutely no involvement and who couldn't care less to boot! Direction please from the more knowledgable folks on line... When and where do we send our contribution to get the bags made for NATPE? Are the bags still on, or what? Finally -- are we simply trying to save the last 6 eps at this point, or are we still trying to literally save the show? If Ger is already planning to move (did this come about as a result of the cancellation?) then he is certainly not planning to continue with FK... although I can understand his perspective at this point. I'm definitely going to join the GWD fan club so I can keep tabs on what he's doing career wise. So -- answers please? I've just spent 20 minutes composing a "from the heart" fax from myself, about Forever Knight. But in cleaning my mail box, I deleted it by accident. Would someone please forward that message to me. It was a forward of a message from someone who agreed with faxing. I'm going to send, one fax only, detailed with my demographics, to her about Forever Knight. Now there is indication that the other three new eps filmed before Christmas break are scheduled for airing in syndication. I was just curious if TriStar had any *legal* or *contractual* obligation to syndication markets. I wasn't suggesting that we stop our campaigning to save the show from cancellation. Three people have pointed out to me that posting the whole thing to the Forever Knight lists twice was probably a bad idea. On retrospect, these people are probably right. My reason was one of completeness only and not an intent on my part to continue to post the list in that fashion. I had initially planned to post updates, but I started to get all these requests and I'm afraid I got carried away. If I have caused anyone any undue stress with my zeal, you have my appologies. >From now on the list is only available through private e-mail. If you want it, you have to go through me. All people appearing on the list already are on the mailing list for the list. You need not apply. <zillah@i.......> Laurie Fenster has asked me to try to push the list into geographical order. This is now what I'm working on. If you want this, you must ask me privately. <zillah@i.......> I have had other requests for graphs and studies and other such demograp hical information. I can't. I don't feel real qualified to begin such a work, I have no talent in this direction. Anyone can feel free to do anything they like with the information on the list as far as a study goes. I hand this little project off to someone else. Again... my appologies. .Zillah. .zillah@i........ ------------------------------ End of FORKNI-L Digest - 3 Jan 1996 - Special issue ***************************************************
